  • If it matters to anyone these BG's are likely being run out in favour of the newer BG MQ models. These older BGs are still very solid for the price though and hard to go wrong with them.

  • the MQs seem over priced and arent they also heavier? the current BGs are my goto.. im tempted as this seems like a good deal but already have a 4000 and 5000 haha. cant justify another.

the beefstick rods as surf rods arent great though i guess live up to their name. the XH 12ft+ rods will be overkill for most and be a real workout to use. wouldve liked to see a 12ft MH rod which would be better for most punters

You can never have to much fishing gear !
I've got reels and rods that's never been used and when the Mrs asks why I reply just incase lol

      • haha yes but id rather save my money for lures and tackle now haha. metal jigs are costing a fortune

    • Agree that the MQs, while an upgrade, are a huge upgrade in price. I think the 'regular' BG is still the best bang-for-buck salt water beater out there.

    • I was going to bite on this deal but you've scared me off with the surf rod comment as that's exactly the combo i was going for.
Daiwa BG 6500 with Daiwa Beefstick Z Surf Rod 12ft

      • if you dont want the rod ill buy it off you if youre in sydney

Good to see some deals come into my "fishing" alert, beside head lamps, camp lights and video games.

Keep in mind these are composite rods so if you are going for the deal , id be getting the heavy end of the range - composite on the light end feels very cumbersome when compared to graphite (generally speaking).

  • If anyone is interested in the reel but doesnt care about the rod, i'd be happy to buy the 12ft rod off you. Please message me!

    • Still interested? Down to just cop the 6500 reel

  • Can someone recommend a duo (from this deal) for fishing in Port Phillip Bay please. Mainly to be used on the boat for Snapper & whatever else decides to jump on. Thanks for the help in advance.

4k reel and a 6 or 7ft rod in the 5-10kg range (ie this would include 4-8kg) would be fine. 20lb braid and 20lb leader

  • what about the combo of 9'6 with 4k reel?
fishing off the beach. sometimes over the rock. any recommendation?
