  • How does the screen quality compare with a WMR VR set? So far my experience is with the HP WMR VR and I found it unpleasant to use due to screen dooring and the low FOV.

    • The Quest 2 is actually pretty good, I think Facebook is deliberately pricing it much lower than it should be to try to increase their market share.

The WMR is very old, 5-6 years old now. The Q2 is much better and also wireless.

      • Screen quality though? Wireless is nice, but the screen and fov gave me a bad headache.

        • Yes, it’s better. Like I said the WMR is really old and the tech has improved lot since it’s release.

Just sent my unit back to oculus for replacement. Cooling issue. Apparently a lot of ppl having the same issue. If you see an error related to cooling, better get it replaced. Annoying though cause there are a few quite good games

    • -1

How do I know i got that issue?

      • +1

You will see an error related to cooling

I have one, never use it beyond a few hours when I bought it.

    Technology still isn't there.

Maybe I'm an outlier but it's an expensive ornament

    • did you try some top games available at your time ?

      • The Darth Vader one, The plank walk one and a few others

    • You should try PCVR games it’s has much better graphics.

      • But make sure you have a beefy enough PC to run PCVR first. Not everyone own one.

        • That’s true. Beat sabre is very good though:)

          • @auslei: Beat Saber's graphics is nothing to write home about, you don't even need a PC to run the Quest version either.
I am talking about graphics in PCVR games such as Half Life Alyx.

            • @edfoo: I have the PC version as well. But if you want to play standalone, the game looks and feels great, at least for me. :)

  • Will I get much out of it without a pc?
Can I plug in any source?

    • alot. the recommended or most common usage is actually standalone. thats one of the main benefit and why this one is popular.
you can watch things from your NAS or server wirelessly,
but if you ask playing xbox on it, then no….
i think we can also store linux distros/files directly into it - havent tried

    • Yes, that is the main appeal of the Quest is that it is wireless and has built in apps (portable).

You can also use either the cable or wirelessly to pair to a PC which will use your PC's graphics to be able to play games from Steam (with potentially better graphics) - I've never done this, so for most cases you probably won't need to.

FYI watch out for overseas transaction fees the AU store processes in the UK and your bank may charge you an overseas transaction fee despite it being in AU$. My old bank did this and cost me an extra $25!!!!!!!!

    • Wasn't an issue for me, went through paypal and paid in AUD.

      • Some banks like HSBC don’t care I have paid in AUD. If the merchant is overseas they charge foreign transaction fee regardless. But for me Amex doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees unless I pay in a foreign currency. Unfortunately I have paid with my HSBC CC.

        • 15 min over the phone with HSBC and they refunded the $14.27 international transaction fee as a "once-off goodwill gesture"!

  • Is 128Gb storage sufficient on these, or is it better going 256gb?

    • I get by with the 64GB model, I just keep ~5 games on it at a time.

    • If you are against piracy 128gb would be fine.

  • if you use this in wired mode, does it look as good as a wired headset? Is there noticeable latency or video compression?

I think I skipped it because it only has 3 discreet IPV adjustments instead of a slider and I was concerned none of the 3 would fit my eyes.

    • You can slide in between. Just not micro mm preciseness

  • Are you able to stream videos ?

    Normal price…..nah…..

  • Just wanna drop in and say for anyone looking to get into VR stuff atm and wondering whether to get Quest or a pre-owned PSVR to save money, here’s my personal key points based on just picking up a PSVR

    Quest ($400-500)
    + standalone
    + better resolution
    + PC support
    + Beat Saber custom songs
    - small storage on cheaper options not expandable

    PSVR ($200-$300)
+ you already own a PS4 to connect it to & run smoothly
+ there’s some couch play shared modes with 1 person in VR and others on dualshocks etc
    + FOV is great
    - no official PC support, some tools available
    - Beat Saber limited to Playstation’s licensed packs
    - lower resolution

Overall, Beat Saber still rules, the lower resolution of PSVR is not going to disappoint you if you don’t own anything else. In my case I wanted something to share with housemates and Quest 2 was going to cost more to fit less games and feels like a more personal / harder to share device imo whereas PS4 feels very communal and tied to a space

If you’re itching to try Beat Saber - yes it’s exactly as good as everyone says and it’s great on PSVR on my original gen PS4 with two old PS Move controllers and as much as I wish I had thousands of songs the experience rules whatever you’re playing to. Get PSVR if you can’t afford Quest, you probably won’t regret it.

With the PSVR you have to fiddle around with cables, camera, console, headphones, controllers, TV and all sorts. It's a real hassle to set-up and use. So the PSVR will most likely end up gathering dust in the corner after a few uses.

Definitely recommend the Quest over PSVR it's a no brainer for mine. It's super convenient you can use it any time and any where. Even if you exclude the console when you add move controllers into the mix there's not much of a difference in cost either.

  • is it over? I cant find this price anymore =(

    • No.

still available but it is better to buy from amazon if they have stock… customer service is much better and faster delivery as well

      • I dunno - bought off Oculus store late last Wednesday and it arrived today (Wednesday)

  • If you buy the oculus second hand can you still use referral links (is it based on FaceBook account)? Secondly if no one replies to the "random" referral request do you just click it again?

    • The referral credit does not work for second hand units afaik. Makes sense otherwise people would just start abusing it to no end.

  • Amazon back in stock if anyone's interested. Just grabbed one

  • +1

Looks like Oculus have updated the referral system and you can just copy paste a link now- if anyones scared of adding someone to FB maybe you can try it out :)
