[Unobtainable] Free First Subscription Order of Coffee Beans & Free Delivery (Cancel Anytime) @ Drop Coffee

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Great little locally run business is offering a free first order of coffee beans for subscribers

Subscription starts from $22 per 250g, fortnightly or 4-weekly delivery. Cancel any time

Checked with the owner and he is happy for the ozbargain community to get on board, I know we all love a good coffee bean

Drop is a coffee subscription which delivers beans to your door fortnightly.

Each fortnight will be from a different specialty coffee roaster in Australia.

The goal is to support small roasters by connecting them directly with coffee drinkers through my subscription.

Next drop is this Monday and if you use code ‘DROP100’ at checkout before then, first order is absolutely free!

Free shipping always, cancel anytime.

Mod 25/1: The rep has not honoured the deal, see rep comment here. Cancellation emails have been sent now, see here. Moved to forums as an unobtainable deal.

Please do not post any personal information in the comments section. This includes addresses and real names.

I would recommend the owner to put some limits to it - at the moment I can order 1kg of coffee worth $67 and get it for free, then cancel. I don't want to be predatory for small businesses like this.

    • +7

Mr Simpson did check with the owner in which I assume he defined clearly the term of potentially being OzBargained

      • +12

Obviously not, because no one would want to send out a whole heap of free orders, then have subscriptions cancelled straight afterwards. Which is what is going to happen…

        • +15

Someone is about to get screwed.

It’s either this small business (honouring the $67 free coffees with instant cancels) or Ozbargainers (complaining about cancels/unauthorised debits etc) and I don’t want to play in part in this.

    • +1

    • +8

Not interested in buying anything, but I went checking for curiosity and I could add 10x1kg worth $670 and the code made it free…

    • +5

I had 1kg in cart, but with my experience 500g is best for me while keeping the beans fresh so I dropped it back to only what I needed.

I'm worried this offer is going to be too generous and too large a proportion of this community is just after the free coffee without giving residual sales.

I think they should have limited it to 1x250g.

  • Thanks for checking with the roaster, I have placed order for a 1kg bag to try them out. Cheers.

  • Safe to enter cc details? No ABN, no phone number or address.

  • Keeps telling me card declined? No idea why the card is fine with about $5 in there currently should be plenty for verification?

    • Mine was $1.39

      • Tried for the 3rd time and it worked, I can't even see any debit from my account which is weird but good thing is it went through.

      • It’s actually USD $1.

    • Mine was $1.40
Must be using an international gateway that uses USD

    • Mine didn't work with 9 cents haha

  • Thanks OP. Looks interesting and I like free.

  • +36

Oh man.. I really don't want to see small businesses get ozbargained….

    • +1

Don't worry. They won't ship it. Most likely they will call it an error and cancel your order.

  • +1

Thanks OP and owner! And thanks OP for checking with owner first.

Ordered 1kg worth $67. Bank account can’t have $0 balance for the payment to go through. I transferred $2 into my bank account and the payment went through without deducting any money.

  • I could probably Google it but roughly how much coffee in grams is needed for a decent single plunger coffee?
I've been drinking instant supplemented by aldi pods for so long I can't even remember how much I used to use?

    • Generally my rule of thumb is 16g-18g in per cup of coffee. How much ‘out’ depends on the process used (Cold Brew, Pourover, Expresso, Drip etc). Also, I’m not sure whether you’re referring to an aero press or a french press by plunger coffee as I would not recommend making coffee with a french press. It’s a waste of quality beans and would use pour overs instead.

I’d recommend french press if you like darker roasts and more bodied coffees however they’re generally not in this price range ($67/kg) as they should be lighter roasts (Also more difficult to properly extract with a french press). The darker Airjo blends will work quite well if you’re looking for something that’ll pair nicely with your french press.

Thanks for the free beans. I'd like to believe in 2022 that anyone who offers "free" stuff has something to gain in exchange. Take advantage of this deal as it will likely be cancelled anyway and they gained new subscribers.

    • +3

I like the fact that I can order 2 x “190gram” per bag, you won’t get that option anywhere. So if the beans are good enough for the asked price, I will be a return customers. I guess that’s worth something already.

  • +2

Tried these for a couple of deliveries (I think from Insta advertising) and they had a great sample of bigger name (e.g Mecca) and lesser known local roasters. Good stuff but too expensive for me long term

  • +9

As much as I like a freebie and love coffee I feel bad about this when it is based on a subscription so I won't do it even though the owner is willing.

  • +34

To be honest as much as i want free coffee, i dont want to screw over a small business so i'll leave it.

  • Thank you OP and drop coffee. I'm trying the smallest size. I've wanted to try these coffee subscriptions as I've seen a few pop up

  • +1

I won't be getting the largest size as I feel the owner won't be anticipating how many orders they'll be getting.

  • also wont order since it might become a big mess

  • Taking it easy for this one but thanks for sharing.

  • +2

Thanks OP and Drop Coffee- I'll give it a go for a couple of shipments at least, I dont feel guilty about 50% off coffee

  • -1

F___ it, I went for it. Now, how to cancel?

  • +3

Hope this guy has not bitten off more than he can chew!

  • as a coffee fan, I have subscribed it. Probably gonna try for a couple of months and see.
    thanks op

  • Not sure what some people above said they only had $2 in their account so they don't need to worry, I guess they are using their VISA debit account? won't you get hit with an overdrawn fee by your bank?

    • +5

Revolut disposable virtual card. It changes every time you make a purchase.

      • Def this

      • +1

what happens if you need a refund that can only be done back onto the same card?

        • A refund of $0?

          • @J6: The refund of $2

            • @Entheogen: It's free. I wasn't charged anything.

            • @Entheogen: It just holds the money for verification, it doesn't take it.

  • Was looking for a decent coffee to order but it’s charged me the $1.44 and the checkout page just says invalid security code (even though it’s correct)….meh can’t be bothered spending more time on it I’ll keep looking for a supplier

    • +3

Sounds like a $1USD preauth to make sure the card is legit for future shipments.

      • Yeah I’m not too worried about the charge but it wouldn’t complete the checkout so won’t be getting the coffee to try

  • +1

Used Revolut virtual. $1.40 and instantly reversed. Free coffee is free coffee.

  • +2

This will be like that Timely Coffees $25 coupon all over again…

    • That thread for those interested, please don't order more than 1x bag of coffee from this one.

  • Checked with the owner and he is happy for the ozbargain community to get on board, I know we all love a good coffee bean

Aighty, I went for it. Cheers OP.

  • Thanks OP. A bit expensive for our taste but will try to support the seller for this sweet deal.

  • I'm looking for new beans, and although I was tempted to get 1kg for free I opted for 500g. I'm hoping they're worthwhile and might become a regular provider. If not, free beans. I appreciate the company giving us this chance.

  • +4

    Not sure what is happening.

I went through the ordering process but could not go through with the order when my conscience told me that I would most probably not order any more once I received the free coffee.

Feeling good at the moment :-)

  • This was basically exactly what I was looking for recently, cheers op!

  • I was still on my timely subscription from the freebie last year. Time for a switcheroo! Timely had some good coffee…. Let's see how these guys go.

That said, inb4 5,000 1kg freebie sub orders cancel after shipping confirmed🥲

  • +1

Deal seems to be a bit too good, I will not cancel immediately for free coffee since that's obviously not the intent for this promotion.
Will try coffee subscription for 2 months before making a decision, hopefully it's good! Would love to support local roasters as well :)

  • +1

Is it possible to choose the date of the first drop?

  • Thanks signed up and got charged $1.39.

    • That's just pre-authorisation - it will be reversed

    • I found when I used ShopPay account I didn't need to do a pre-auth.

  • +2

Sceptical of this deal. Too good to be true. I suspect we may have all given our details away for nothing. I'll be surprised if a delivery turns up.

    • I've seen a few coffee subscription/coffee companies offering a free first pack (the ones i've seen you pay for shipping though), so not entirely unheard of

    • +1

We have seen this before. Timely Coffee delivered free coffee before, too. You’ll be surprised. I signed up and my neighbour, too.

    • I think they will go thru with regular non-greedy orders, not the ones who order 5x1KG at -100% discount.

      • No one orders 5x 1Kg that’s ridiculous. Even we at home drink a lot of coffee and use 1Kg per month. It’s best fresh!

        • +2

There's always gonna be that (profanity) that would do just that, just because they think it's their right to get stuff for free

        • We drink over a kilo a month in our household. Closer to 2 actually.

        • But… I have a code :3

      • +1

There's going to be a broden that ordered $1000 worth of coffee feeling chuff

  • +2

Been looking for new beans! Might give these guys a go for a couple of months!

  • +1

Knowing I already have enough coffee that I don't need more coffee nor a subscription any time soon I'm going to have to pass, but all the best to the owners business :)

  • Looking for new beans to as my Airjo beans about to finish. Hopefully it turns out good, the freebies is definitely a bonus. Happy to subscribe if it my taste buds agrees.

  • Thanks op, ordered a 250g bag to try out

  • +5

We all gonna get St. Ali coffee as a punishment.

    • -3

Their coffee isn't bad. Aldi coffee is bad.

I shall prepare to be hanged now.

      • Thought I was the strange one here. Tried a few and every single one went into the bin. ;(

        • +2

Market Lane coffee would be my favourite beans though. I tend to go to them instead of St Ali when in South Melbourne

      • Aldi coffee is bad.

We find it pretty good for the price, but I buy the pack with the latest roasting date!

  • +13

I'm in the bandwagon of "ordered and happy to receive if owner knew what he was signing up for - but if he wasn't prepared for the cost of this happy to have it cancelled".

    • All aboard!

  • +3

This could be Barty coffee all over again and take 6 weeks to arrive.

    • hopefully not another Rubra

  • The worst part is this isn't a beanery, it looks like they are buying all the stock to sell. I don't expect my order to be fulfilled, only ordered 1x500g so we'll see.

  • +19

OP: “Do you mind if I post this deal in OzBargain?”
    Owner: “What’s that?”
OP: “Oh, just some small little website where my friends and I share deals.”
    Owner: “Sure… go for it!”

  • Barty, Timely and now Drop…

  • Looks like the code not working anymore sadly.

    • -1

Sorry just managed to get it thru just a few mins before , guess got lucky , sorry mate

  • No option for filter or espresso roast…. Only reason I'm not giving it a go and supporting them

  • 2000 clicks… yeah this was a mistake to post this

    • +1

But tomorrow they can advertise 'we are the most subscribed coffee place in Australia with over 2000 subs'

  • Why is the owner ok with this? It doesn't feel good to be doing this…

    • +2

enough people will forget to unsub to make it worthwhile for them

      • Good to unsub now then?
