  • Is there any deals for the 99 plan over 12 months?

  • +3

Is it worthwhile getting these $69 per month contracts? I would have thought pretty much everyone on ozbargain pays max $15-$20 per month for phone usage (unlimited calls, decent data) and then buy the phones outright.

    • +6

I thought the same thing. But people that can claim phone usage as a tax deduction prefer these expensive monthly plans. Because they can claim the monthly amount as usage (which a big chunk of is actually just paying for the phone) whereas if they purchase the phone outright they can't claim that cost of the phone that way. Hope I'm explaining that correctly.

      • +2

Exactly this. Phone hardware deduction need to go through depreciation.

        • +1

          Also, you get 5G

  • +2

Just popped to jb hi fi, was offering free phone with 79$ 200gb contact for this weekend

    • Which phones?

      • +1

Pixel 6 and pro version. As well as the s21 fe. Or get 800$ gc. Plus iphone 12 mini 128gb 879 for today. cant decide what to get.

        • 12 month or 24 month contract

          • @Jonno9: 24months.

            • @louud: Any extra cash on top for a pixel 6 pro?

              • +1

@miked1: I called, $0 upfront but it’s on a weird plan. $99 per month with a $20 discount applied after the third month or something similar. Deal runs until Thursday.

                • @gabos: Thanks, i'll look into it

                • @gabos: Thanks. Payed $150 upfront for a 256gb pixel 6 pro.
$99 a month for the first 3 months then once in the first 3 months you will get a $60 credit, then $79 from the 4th month onwards.

Anyone know if we can still get the $10/month welcome credit?

                  • @miked1: I went to livechat and asked for $10 off for porting in, Jbhifi guy said won't work but worth a shot!

                    • @gabos: Yeah i just got a $10 12 month credit

              • @miked1: i called they said $79 x24 and 0 upfront on pixel 6 pro… wish it wasnt a curved screen though sigh

    • What's the methodology again for getting this deal when an existing Telstra customer? Sign up with a new account, then conteact Telstra to attach to existing account?

My current contact expires on January 3.

Might see if they'll do the $800gc for a Sonos Sub to finish off the setup in man cave!

    • How long is the contract?

  • +3

I wait for s22 ultra deal next month on a 12 month telstra contract with JB Hi-Fi or Good Guys.

    • Im waiting for the s22 to get released ao i can get an s21 ultra cheap as.

      • don't think it will get cheaper then the other deal where they double-stacked the discounts and for some triple-stacked got s21 ultra for $400, some got it cheaper

  • is the early termination fee stuff still going on with telstra??

    • No they fixed their contract lol.

  • +2

    Terrible deal.

Using year old shitty Exynos 2100 chip which overheats, at least on my base S21 (Ultra model is bigger and has better cooling).

With S22 coming out soon, I would not lock into a plan where you're paying so much for essentially a slightly stripped down version of a year old flagship.

    Rip off.

    • It's a Snapdragon in the FE?

      • -2

No all S21 FE models are Exynos 2100.

Last years S20 FE 5G was SD865 and S21 FE (non 5G) was Exynos 990.

        • -1

The Australian model is Exynos only. They all have 5G.

For the S20 FE, initially it was 4G Exynos and 5G Snapdragon, and the updated 2021 4G came with Snapdragon.

        • Oh man that's so shit

    • Thanks for letting us know. The huge upside of this phone is that it will get Android 15 just as the S22 will. But this plan doesn't look like a great deal - JB was first offering the S20 FE for free with a Telstra plan.

Will probably sell the one I bought from Samsung :/ (after hearing the news of a compact S10e-sized S22, and a potentially Snapdragon-only Ultra!)

  • if youre a current telstra customer - can i just port over to optus for a week then jump onto this plan?

    • +1

Gotta be at least 30 days…I'm on day 20 so holding out for a S22 deal probably.

  • Can you still get the $10 port in discount with these?
