Corolla SX Hybrid Vs Mazda 3 G20 Pure

Looking to buy a second car

Narrowed down the choices to just two - Corolla SX Hybrid & Mazda G20 Pure.

Both cars are nice to drive, but the Mazda was nicer interior-wise, more roomier at the back and had a bigger boot. The Mazda was also cheaper at $2K less ($32K vs $34K) and both are looking at a 4-5 month wait.

So it comes down to this. Is it worth paying the extra $2K for the Hybrid option given that:

  1. Driving will be mostly limited to urban (Canberra) and the occasional trip to Sydney (2-3 times a year)
  2. Plan is to keep the car for 6-7 years and then replace with a fully electric car - so will it be easier to sell a hybrid than a ICE car in 2028 for example?

Appreciate any advice people may have and also on ways to negotiate the price down (for example went to two Toyota dealers in Canberra and both offered the same price)

Buy the car you will enjoy driving the most for the next 6 years.

Negotiate on cars with a 4-5 month wait? You’re new here aren’t you?

My other favourite is the people claiming “I used a broker and they got me *random number between 5~10%* off my new vehicle.” and it’s a super popular model from a major manufacturer on back order for 6 months with none in the country.

I can see in another 6 months an explosion of threads asking “I bought through a broker and now they are asking $5000 more for a car I ordered 6 months ago. What do?”

hybrid system will be great for urban driving - save on petrol in start/stop city traffic + quicker acceleration (which plateaus out pretty quickly) on the corolla. servicing is also mujch cheaper on toyota. but mazda is more refined. not much between the two buy what your heart tells you after the test drives

I test drove both and ended up going with the Corolla SX Hybrid. It's insane how much it's held price and the fuel economy is really good.
As another commenter said services are really cheap, capped at $180 for the first six iirc.
