If you're shopping around for a sub $300 monitor (for that instant home office tax deduction) another monitor you should probably look at is the Dell S2722DGM. It's currently on sale for $299 and it's got the right specs for both productivity (QHD 1440p resolution) and gaming usage (165hz refresh rate). VA panel, of course.

That mesh router looks suspiciously like a rebadged Mercusys Halo S12 seen for as little as $46 on Boxing Day.

    • What is "that instant home office tax deduction"?

edit: I get it, it's below $300, so no need to show a receipt to ATO. But if it's $500, you can still show the receipt and it's fine, right?

I think if it's over $300, you don't have to depreciate it over a number of years, and you can claim it in one hit.

        DYOR.

        • Yup

        • +2

Correction to the above. You do need to depreciate them over a number of years. It's three years where you can do 40% years one and two and then 20% in the last year. Be aware that it's three years from the day that you purchase. So if you bought it today then it would span four tax years.

      Thanks for the information!
What happens if I buy two $300 monitors? Can I claim both?
Is the $300 per item per year? Or total amount per year?

      • You can claim them individually.

    • So does that mean I can get some money back when its EOFY? By saying this monitor was for my home office as I work from home?

    • Is VA panel to.be avoided got the dell s2234dw but had mixed reviews

F'ing Aldi NEVER has ANY of these deals in WA. I've given up.

    • +11

Can I neg my own deal for this reason? am in WA too

      • +8

no need, just slap yourself in the face a few times which will be sufficient.

        • +2

          Haha. Neg>>>being slapped

Same in NT. So hard to find these deals that I am still looking for a aldi here.

    • It's only a 1080 screen. Everything will be huge on it.

Wouldn't want anything less that 1440 really

Maybe not if it's an ultra wide? Because the height of the screen is likely the same as either a 24" or 27" monitor.

        • +1

Same as 24”. 34” ultrawide has same height as 27”.

      • It has a 10cmx10cm mounting plate.

Get a rotateable VESA mount and you have 1080x2560!

Or am I the only one who likes to edit documents in portrait?

        • +1

I just turn my head sideways

That's what happens when you secede from the Commonwealth

    • They’re stuck at the border

    • Your borders are shut.. what do you expect? :)

  • I got the 29WK500-P version for $200 (think its a non hdr version). It's definitely great value for $200, but paying an extra $100 for HDR doesn't seem worth it. The form factor is rlly good. However, the resolution is very noticeable, esp when reading lots of text/code, which tbh makes it a deal-breaker if you want it for long hours of productivity.

Is this even cheap? I swear I picked up a 29 inch ultrawide LG for 299 years ago.

    • $249 at ALDI

  • they had 34 inch for 299 few months ago?

    • If this is a question, then yes - it seems so.

Even worse picture, given it's the same resolution on a bigger screen.

  • I've never found stock for any of these types of deals. I always spectate on here when it comes to ALDI specials.

    • With some specials, you'd expect to queue up early before the store opens on the start day.

  • any thoughts on the office chair, looking to replace mine.

    • The seat has cheap padding, will become wafer thin if you're wfh fulltime. Other than that it's ok.

  • For this price range might add well get the Dell 27" 4K for $320
The 4K is a big improvement on 1080p, but you do lose 2".

    • As long as your setup can drive it at 60 Hz. Even your typical oblivious user will quickly get frustrated with 4k30 if they're used to 60 Hz .

As for losing some width, personally I'm more than happy to trade off a bit of width for a chunk of extra height in a display.

Has BAM page closed? Anyone have new link?

  • Seems like a good price, but can OP or anyone please advice their experience with 21:9 ultrawide if they watch movies like Netflix or Disney, do you get full screen experience or still get black bars on both sides. I don't game at all on the monitor. Thanks in advance. Cheers:))

    • I tried my Switch on it last night and can confirm that if you set it up right, there's no black bars.

  • I think Aldi has removed this deal. It's in their paper catalogue, but missing from the website.

I remembered it was online when I was checking it out after seeing the hardcopy catalogue, I guess they just removed it.

  • VIC: Went to Aldi yesterday and it wasn't there.

Checked the website and it's not on the lists.

Strangely, it's showing on the SA and QLD stock delays lists, but not NSW or VIC…

  • UPDATE 14/02 (VIC) - Found the last 2 monitors at Aldi Melton on 12/02 so, the SO and I took one each.

I was honestly stunned speechless when I saw them. My SO was very concerned :P

So, it's honestly possible that some outer suburb stores have them so, check them out!

Also, if anyone is keen for the $99 cordless vacuum cleaner, Melton had 4-5 left as of 12/02.
