  • LED bulbs still far too expensive. I just want normal LED bulbs, 5W - 10W for less than $5 each.
Surely someone can make it happen.

    • Patience. Good emitters by themselves aren't quite that cheap yet. eg http://cutter.com.au/products.php?cat=XML+on+20mm+Star+PCB

      • Yep, I'm trying to be patient… but also, the price of those emitters are the price you or I could buy them for. Bulb manufacturers would get them far cheaper.
The first people that can sell at $5 should grab most of the market.
I'm so sick of these "Long lasting" CFL failing all the time, I got around 20 dead ones, waiting to be safely disposed of.

        • Did you hold onto the 'tube' with your hands when installing it? This is often why CFLs fail quickly. Follow the installation instructions and you shouldn't have this problem.

I've found CFLs to be reliable once I learnt how to install them properly!

        • You can get 5 x 5w versions of these for $29 (just over $5 each) each from alibabaexpress

    • Maybe buy & take apart some really cheap LED torches, &
wire them up to a reliable source of their battery voltage(s)

…ie, from an external, mains (or, better, solar) powered
      power supply.

Why wait, ie, when DIY can give you what you want now?

Woodworkers, Radio Hams & Electric Car DIY-ers
(who convert their fossil-fueled cars to 100% Electric)
are just a -few- examples of folks
who -don't- sit on their hands & wait…

They "make it so" …& so can you, -if- you try.

      • Cheap torches will not make a good light for your house. That is a lame idea.

      • For anyone wanting to head down this path, I suggest buying new emitters and drivers, while using an old chipset heatsink+fan and halogen desk lamp. Those lamps output nice 12V AC falls into the right range for many drivers.

        Here's one I prepared earlier, with a Cree MT-G: http://ocau.com/pix/2nxgp
