These are great, better than MEROSS in that you can actually plug something in next to them in a double socket. Links to Smartthings with ease

    1-2 months dispatch time

  • I like the idea of these, but my only use case is to reset my router and nbn box that live in a nook upstairs. But I assume no internet means these can't turn the power back on, is that right?

I know you can use bluetooth and control these via the app, but if I'm that close I might as well take the extra few steps and flick the switch myself.

    • +1

You can possibly use something like that and reset the router and nbn every week during the time no one needs internet: https://www.amazon.com.au/D817-Day-Digital-Timer-93210012451…

    • +2

Yeah, you could turn off but then won’t have network access to turn it on again remotely.

The above-posted solution would be better, even if less nimble than reset on-demand.

    • I programmed nine to turn off for like 30mins every night to just refresh my connection. Works fine but if I manually turn it off via the app it stops responding when the internet/router cuts out

      • Why 30 minutes? Surely your router doesn't take that long to fully turn off ;)

    • +4

it works if you schedule it to turn on before you turn it off.

    • +2

Guys I have this switch, there is one way around this:-

When you set the schedule it is downloaded to the switch so will still work even with an Internet Outage, I think it works fr the timers as well (but not 100% sure). So you could set the switch to turn on say at 12:01 and then turn off manually at 12:00 (the switch has the modem that will power off and loose Internet but it will turn on again 1 minute later without Internet.

    • This is exactly why I will never buy TPLink again.
They used to be controllable without internet access, then they firmware updated the devices I had specifically bought because they could be used without internet, and forced them to be controlled only over the internet via their garbage app.

Nowadays, I just use tasmota flashed versions of these plugs (Aldi meridion for example, which they stopped selling a few years ago) which will always be able to be controlled via the local network only.

I can confirm that these Wifi based smart plug devices turns off and back on itself (via scene/routine in Tuya app) even without wifi connection. I used it to restart my main router and repeater twice a week.

The downside is that it doesnt update its status on Tuya app that its back On. Its shows on the app that its Off but its actually On in fact.

  • Yes, but 1 - 2 months delivery? Looks like they are out of stock.

  • Initially it was only a couple of days.
You’re right. must have been jumped on quick!

  • OMG, sold out already! was about to checkout

  • Gone while adding today’s prezee gift card lol

  • Wow. Can't add to the cart already. OOS!

Got one a few months back for the same price at Bunnings, work's very well to preheat the coffee machine each morning and doesn't consume the space of multiple power points.

    • +1

I do the same thing! Got a 2-pack at JB for $40 as part of a deal. The coffee machine is turned on about a 1/2 hr each morning before I get up, so it’s nice & hot when I’m ready.

Tried to get these previously but always out of stock. Got the Arlec ones at Bunnings instead and have been happy with them. Anyone know if these are any better than the Arlec ones?

    • +1

Arlec are Tuya so always cloud but these are Tp-link cloud so work locally when on LAN. I own both but prefer these over Tuya.

      • Any experience trying the TP-Link ones with Home Assistant? Based on your comment sounds like they might be nicer than Arlec - I didn't like the Tuya requirement to get it going.

edit: just did a quick search and looks like it used to work but might not any more :( https://alerts.home-assistant.io/#tplink.markdown

I'm pretty sure that refers to a different model (HS110), the discussion form link on that page refers to that model. On the other hand I have the KP105 (it looks like the previous model which works fine on LAN) and it looks KP 115 is supported on the integration compatibility list. I used the app to set it up, but didn't update the firmware at all.

@glass2k: Ah awesome thanks. I can't wait til HA gets to the point where it's just an icon on the box for this kind of stuff, like Google Assistant and HomeKit.

  • Does this work with the Tuya app?

    • No these are not Tuya based but use Tplink cloud and app.

      • ok thanks :)

  • +1

I have older version of tp-link Kasa smart plugs, irritating Coil Whine, don't use them in your bed room.

    • I had the older version as well, the KP105 and 115 are much better, silent, smaller form factor and don't get as warm.

  • Ive either got these or the older version, I find that it's very warm even if the plug is off. Then hot if plug is on but nothing's charging, very hot if it's in actual use.

  • I just got one of these for $17.50 from Bunnings… works well via Grid Connect app and you can control it with google home. quite a loud click when switching on and off tho so I wouldn't want to have it in the bedroom or anywhere like that lol

  • Hey guys I've set it up with Alexa but I'm trying to get a routine running where it's based on me turning the plug on and off. It's not coming up as a trigger for the routine. Anybody have any experience with this?

I know that grid connect for example has scenes you can set upon something being turned on/off

    • +1

Unfortunately with Alexa, a smart plug changing status can't be used to trigger a routine.

      • Oh damn, well thanks for the heads up!

Looks like Amazon price matched the wrong smart plug

  • +2

For anyone that still wants and is willing to pay a couple bucks more, they can be had from TGG Commercial for $22.

  • Darnit I really wanted this model and when I finally saw the posting it's out of stock :(

  • Is this a good alternative?
