Buy Sony A80J or Wait for Sony A80k TV?

I'm trying to decide between buying the 65" Sony A80J now or waiting for the A80K to come out. I have it price matched from the Costco deal for $3,099.99, but am thinking that the price might go down once the A80K is released.

From what I can tell the A80K has the screen of the A90J and the remote is a lot nicer, not sure if that will justify the price, so I might stick with the A80J if it's much cheaper than what the A80K will be. I know not a whole lot of info is out at the moment, but just wanted to get some thoughts.

From experience, do you guys think the A80K will be more expensive?
Do older Sony TVs like the A80J once the A80K comes out become much cheaper?
Would you go for A80J or wait for the A80K?

Thanks!

Usually by the time it's goes EOL there's hardly any stock left, you might get a decent deal on a display model but not recommended, also with all these international shipping companies are charging crazy money to move containers will be interesting to see on the flow through effect for retail products etc

    • That's a good point, I wonder if it'll be much more expensive as a result of the supply chain issues. I do really like the remote haha, but the A80K doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade.
Not too keen on buying a display model, I might just bite the bullet now that there's 10% cashback with Sony.
      Thanks for your comment!

What Costco is selling it for that price ?

This was from a deal back last year, Costco was selling it for $3099.99 in the warehouse. I got it price matched by Sony and it's still in my cart.

      • That's awesome. How do I go about getting the price match?

@Mushmaster: I believe this is the original deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/667668. It looks like current Costco price of $3,349 for the 65" A80J is the next best but it is out of stock without looking at JB Commercial and TGGC pricing which I do not have access to.

@Stivo: First, go to the matching product's page on Sony's website. Fill in the "Request a Price Match" form, select your communication type (email/phone) and submit your request. Sony are quite quick to respond either way. I have only tried the email method and if successful, the discounted item will appear in your cart once you log in to your Sony account. AFAIK, your Sony account has to have the same email as your request.

@Itsjackson: $3,099 is a stellar price. If I had that in my cart, I know what I would be doing. Also, note the 10% cashback applies to the total excluding GST, not $3,099 as confirmed by many who bought the same TV for that price through the Sony website. On a side note, I wonder if a screenshot of your cart might help others get a better price? It is an incredibly long shot though.

    • I decided to just go for it and placed the order a few days ago! It looks like it's on back order with Sony as well, they haven't given me a delivery estimate yet.

Hopefully the cash back does track, I have seen some people saying it might not be approved - fingers crossed!

If anyone's interested, DM me and I can send you a screenshot of the order confirmation, Sony hasn't sent me an invoice yet so not sure if it'll be much use.

      • Nice one. Don't think the stock will be an issue as it looks like stocks are being refilled — Costco are no longer showing the A80J as sold out.

Did you get any emails from Cashrewards after placing your order?

If you are comfortable, uploading to imgur (or similar) then sharing it here may be easier. Ditto when you receive an invoice.

        • I did get the email from cashrewards that it tracked soon after I placed the order, said the estimated date for approval is in April.

Here's the screenshots from my account: https://imgur.com/a/wwPsrm3

Hope it works for you guys.

      • Yes pls. Shoot me a screen shot. I tried with the Costco screen shot but they said no :(

        • @Stivo: Did you use live chat or the Request a Price Match feature? If you were trying to match the $3,349.99 at Costco, perhaps try it once more as their website is showing stock again. If it helps, I had success entering "Costco" as the retailer/website and the price as "3349.99". Hopefully we can still do better than that price though.

@Itsjackson: It looks like stock could be arriving to Sony next week according to this account: https://whrl.pl/RgobJM

          Good luck!

          • @Itsjackson: Thanks man. Sony online store didn't accept it. But I went to jb and they did! Got free delivery too.

        • Wow that's awesome. Any chance of a receipt? Had the same response from Sony.

  • I'm also in the same boat. Anyone got luck to get the price of 3099 with the screenshot from Sony itself or JB/TGG?

I got lucky and managed to get JBHIFI to price match this last Friday. But there's no stock so I need to wait. Took a few go's as the first two shops didn't want to budge.
