Costco have discounted their top of the line Cuckoo rice pressure cooker. $699.99 down from $799.99. Cuckoo Australia are selling it for $849.99

Looks like the previous model from the earlier deal is back in stock but not at the $500 price.

IH rice cookers are also classified as pressure cookers. Pressure cookers can reach 120 to 150°C. IH rice cookers build more pressure, and thus have higher boiling point than a conventional pressure rice cooker. IH pressure cookers use induction heating technology (induction coils build electromagnetic induction to heat up the whole stainless steel inner pot), whereas conventional pressure cookers use a heating pan to heat up the inner pot.

The IH rice cooker can reach higher boiling points. Not only does it reach a higher boiling point, but it shortens the time of cooking. When food/grain is cooked at higher heat within a short time, the food becomes softer and tender. As the whole inner pot (bottom and sides) is heated up instead of only bottom of the inner pot (conventional rice/pressure cookers use a heat pan on the bottom), the rice is more evenly cooked. This is what makes the Cuckoo so internationally recognised.

      I imagine it's better. If you're going to throw down $600 (regular price) on the lower model you may as well spend $100 more and get this one. That's my thinking anyway. We were "comfortable" spending $500 to see what the fuss was all about. At $700 it's a little more hmm… I guess if you really know what you're getting then any discount on Cuckoo is good. Not many places to buy these from so I'm guessing discounts can be hard to find.

        Asian friend grey market prices are in 600s - so this is decent for local stock

        The pressure relief is really something on these Cuckoos. We have a lower model than this and but it still sounds like 'cuckoo bird with throat cancer riding a steam train' when the pressure relief goes off. Between that, the quirky announcements and the quality of the cooked rice, its a good buy

    Thats quite a bit of $$…. I have this Hawkins Futura -(https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Futura-Pressure-Cooker-6… ) cooktop mount for over 8 years and works same as day 1 - I mean there's nothing other than the safety valve and o-ring that can fail and both are readily available online or in Indian stores….. so far I have only replaced the safety valve ($4) cos we forgot to add enough water to the food and the valve melted (which is what it is supposed to do)- original o-ring is still going….

    *Typing while eating salad with chickpeas cooked in the pressure cooker….

      That doesn't make you perfect rice with a few presses of a button… you wouldn't understand unless you eat rice everyday

        I have the Breville Fast Slow Pro.
        Cooking rice doesn't give best results… always seem either too wet or dry
        For everything else (meats, currys) it's been fantastic

        idk.. i'm just trying to convince myself to buy the cuckoo

          i have a cuckoo… not this top of the range.. but middle range, its a step above tiger brand and well worth the money imho. not sure if i could justify this much money but 3-400 i think its worth it. i eat rice almost every day so definitely worth investing in a good rice cooker.

            @hippyhippy: yep - this became for the primary cooker for sticky rice, congee, steaming sweet potato, etc

            The Tiger still works perfectly fine, just got demoted to backup duties when plain steamed rice is needed when the cuckoo is doing something else

            (yes - Asian family where rice is served every day)

        true since its got no buttons.. but we do eat rice almost everyday too and never had issues - though you need to physically turn off the cooktop after 15mins, it not automatic like rice cookers…. although I am not a connoisseur and dont focus on texture of rice too much….

        what I like is you get the cooker pots (? not sure what its called) that you can stack and cook pulses (lentils / dal) and or veggies in another pot…. meal sorted in 1 batch…..

        we also have philips rice cooker that we regularly use though if we need to make a lot of rice….

      this is specifically for rice, never tried rice in my instant pot so cant really compare.

        We have the Hawkins pressure cooker and also the Panasonic one, couldn't tell much difference between the 3 tbh and we eat rice almost every day too

        Just curious before I go and buy another appliance :)
