  • This or eufy 2c pro?

    • Or Arlo

    • +1

      Apples vs oranges

      PoE vs wireless

I have Arlo, it works well, although I do wish I got something like this first up. PoE is much better.

    • Definitely this, but you have to set aside a few days to do wiring or hire someone to do it.

      • Is it just Ethernet cables or do we need electrician to do it?

        • Just ethernet cables. However if running them inside roof or walls you legally have to get them installed by licensed cable installer.

          • @Elyxar: Not if just running terminated cables. I believe they only have to if your cutting and terminating them yourself? But I may be wrong.

            • +1

@Yakuza85: I don't know either. I thought it was about making sure they aren't running next to something that could cause a fire. I know running speaker wire through walls/ceiling requires a wire that has a minimum fire rating on the sheath.

CamelCamelCamel shows an interesting pricing strategy here:
    https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08MFGNQDF

    • Looks like the same seller posted the same product for $629 in December and August 2021.

They use coupons for promotions so you can't track the price reliably

  • Hi anyone use them are they good?

    • I have non car recognition and they are great

    • I’ve had mine for a few months now and for the money, you can’t beat it for performance. Great clarity, although sometimes can overexpose. The app is easy to use, and it’s detection mechanism is actually pretty solid - I don’t get many false alarms.

    • +1

I just installed one with a total of 6 cameras earlier this month and I'm really happy. Way better than wifi cameras I have used before. The cameras are all metal, so really sturdy. Unbelievable cheap for what they are. Android and Windows apps are good too, with push notifications. Person and/or vehicle detection has been spot on with no false alarms from moving trees or shadows. This price is also the best I have seen for this kit.

    • Yep I've got the same 4k but with 8cams. Excellent quality, easy setup. App is full of features. Highly recommended

    • Have the 4k bullet model and great.

    • Have this same one for past 6 months. They're fantastic! Going to buy another one for family members house

  • Got Argus 3 with solar panels, impressed so far. Good App.

  • This or Unifi?

    • Unifi is a much better product with the ability to spread across your network - but to be fair, also more expensive

    • +1

Unifi Cameras are terrible value compared to most CCTV brands out there. Their 2MP 1080P cameras run from $200-$220 each normally and their 4K 8MP ones (Same resolution as this Reolink Deal) are about $750-$800 each camera. Their dedicated Cloud key or unifi protect recorder is also very expensive (around $300 for the cloud key).

Here's a good video that mainly focus' on the human/vehicle detection side of things but shows how expensive unifi is.

I run all Unifi networking gear and Cameras. The networking gear is great but on the higher end of pricing for home level stuff but the CCTV gear is way overpriced.

    • I love Unifi for networking, but general consensus seems to be the Camera stuff doesn't justify the prosumer price tag, Yet…

After discovering Reolink has a super-strong community (Feedback / Firmware updates) https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam I think its a no brainer :)

The whole system is less than a single G4 Pro… ( I admit the Pro is a fair bit better hardware-wise, but I can make up the difference with having 4 x lesser spec'd )

  • +1

These are pretty solid. Got the 16 port NVR, extra HD in there…
Records, playback… all easy, no issues with any of it

    • This 8-port NVR only has room for one HDD, so I bought a 6TB to replace the 2TB it comes with. It took less than 5 minutes. Just make sure you get a HDD designed for 24/7 recording, like the Western Digital Purple.

  • They've just released updated firmware for these cameras (which I haven't installed yet). It is meant to show you what the motion is that it has detected.

  • Do they need to be directly connected to NVR?

will it work if I use existing Unifi POE+ switches to hook them up. Thanks

    • They should work with Blue Iris which requires a dedicated PC to run the software

    • +1

will it work if I use existing Unifi POE+ switches to hook them up

      Yes it will.

      • So NVR can detect cameras as far as they are on same network?

        • +1

          Yes.

  • In the latest firmware update these cameras now do animal detection also

  • Installed these myself. Plug and play just worked and easy set up. Very happy with quality.
Exposure and dynamic range are tricky to get right for day and night setting. Sometimes you need to reset camera as the settings get stuck using app. Once you get it right, you can forget about it.
App is great and works well to look at your streams.

If you are installing in asbestos eaves, use shaving cream and don't use the plugs provided. Either drill smaller pilot holes and screw directly in or get better plasterboard anchors.

  • Any deals on additional camera?

    • yeah i'm interested in this as well - either same model or similar (not lower spec). in my final plan I'm looking for 6-8 cameras all up - so if this is such a good offer for 4 starter pack (and the comments here certainly suggest it is), then i'd def be open to adding more single cams later on as well…

  • So I need to budget in ethernet cables to connect the cameras?

    • Yes, definitely. And RJ45 connectors, crimping tool and possibly conduit.

    • Correct me, if I am wrong, but the listing says the cameras come with 18ft (18.288m) Ethernet cables.

PoE System - 100% Plug and Play

Power, video, and audio run through a single PoE cable, making the installation simple. Cameras come with 60ft 8Pin network cables so you will find it easy to get everything up and running in no time.

trippy is correct though, be sure to budget extra costs for installation.

  • I have a Samsung SRD840 with dying Samsung CT-SNV-7084R anti vandal cameras around my house. It's all quite old now.
Will this be a worthwhile upgrade seeing as I can use the existing poe wiring?
    Idk much about them.

  • the cable inside the box are pretty long and decent. no need to buy additional one unless you plan to run 50 meters etc.

Whats the verdict on 2tb when recording in 4K ?

Reolinks guide doesnt say 4mp, 5mp and 4K. Instead it lists bitrate. I'm assuming that 4K has the highest bitrate so their suggestion is 2tb= 6 days recording. About to order a 6 Tb drive from Centrecom.

    Just noticed:

"For the old RLN8-410 NVR system and the previous version RLN16-410 NVR system, we can replace the existing HDD with a 4TB HDD, for the new hardware version RLN16-410 NVR and RLN8-410 system, we can replace it with a 6TB HDD."

How the hell do you know if it's the old version or the new version ?

EDIT: OK, looks like that if the 'RLN8-410 NVR' has person and vehicle detection (3 hardware revisions have it) it either works with a 6Tb drive or can be upgraded with a firmware update to work.

    • thanks for your edit/update - i was looking in to that myself as well. Good to know.

  • Interested in a monitor/screen for the system. Something I can set up in the kitchen maybe just to quickly look at to see whos at the front door.

Have found that almost zero android tablets have HDMI input, a PC monitor is a bit big and ugly, Google nest display is a bit small, the bigger google nest is a too pricey…….?

Edit: Found a few portable screens for around $200, but they are just screens and not Android tablets.

  • Have been watching these for a while and have now bought, thanks for posting!

We're currently building and have provisioned where we can install these cameras (the builder will be installing the PoE cables) so hoping it will be pretty much plug and play.

  • Did this expire already? Deal posted on 26.01.21 - notes state 7 Day deal.
