  • Are these any good??

I've had my Q80T for a year. Panel is excellent, but Samsung OS leaves much to be desired.

      • Use a chromecast with google tv. Includes a simple remote and UI so you don't have to use Samsung OS if you mainly use streaming.

        • I do, and it is better but still leaves much to be desired.

      • +2

I find the Samsung OS the best it has Kayo and Binge on the OS so you don't have to use a 3rd party like google chrome. In my view it's the best out of all the TV OS's.

    Only issue no Dolby Vision.

  • HDMI 2.1, can anyone comment on the PS5 experience, specifically 4k @ 120hz?

    • +1

I have the 75" version of the Q70T, which is the year before this and the model below, still has HDMI 2.1 and 120hz. It works flawlessly with my PS5, though keep in mind some games go down to 1080p at 120fps.

What kills this TV is the light bleed/blooming in dark scenes. A lot of people have been complaining about this issue and can't believe that Samsung released a TV with such an issue. The contrast also isn't as good as the Q70a. This panel went down to $1580 before Christmas

FYI - If you have access to the Samsung EPP store you can get these for $1329 and $1779 respectively until Jan 31st.

    • Thanks, just about to ask if anybody have access to EPP.

      No 75" right?

      • Nope - 55/65 in the Q80A only.

        • Thanks, I missed the 75" Q70A deal.

I bought this TV not too long ago (upgraded from a ten year old 55" 1080p) and am loving it.

Colours are crisp, works well for game mode with an Xbox Series X (can't comment on PS5).

The biggest negative from rting's review was the blacks, but when you're watching a movie or playing a game you don't really notice it. IMO the darks are still very good for a QLED.

The best advice I can give people looking at TVs is it's hard to choose when you're in a store looking at TVs side by side, but once the TV is on your wall and you have nothing to compare it to, it'll look ace.

    Happy hunting.

This is very true. Helped me pull the trigger on a Frame. Yes, the LG OLED has better images and will look better side by side but at home compared to my 1080p 6yo TV, I am ahead and I get a nice looking TV since it's off 90% of its life.

  • This or the Sony 65" X90J for the same price $2195?

    • I can buy Sony 65" X90J for 2000, and I don't think this Samsung worth more than the Sony. I'd pay 1700 for this Samsung

    • I bought the 65" X90J a few weeks and naturally compared it to the Q70A and the Q80A before buying.

      A few things to consider:

The Sony is reported to generally have better picture quality than both the Samsungs. The Q70A is way behind so I didn't even consider it. The Q80A gets closer but according to most reviews, the X90J is still better. I've been blown away by the black levels and HDR content. Dolby Vision on platforms like Netflix is another plus with Sony. The Sony also has Google TV, which in my eyes is better than Tizen and integrates very well with my Google nest and home smart devices. Also, a few weeks ago, the 65" Q80A was around the $2700 mark, making my choice a lot simpler because I could buy the Sony for just under $2000.

On the other hand, the Samsungs are significantly thinner (less than half the thickness) and have a better remote. The Sony remote buttons don't have tactile feel to it and I really dislike it (but it gets the job done).

On a side note, I have had to tweak Dolby vision settings to make it brighter though - the default setup is way too dark to be usable.

No Dolby Vision, no deal. Why you would get this over something like an LG B1 (or a Sony equivalent) for a shade more (when on sale) is beyond me.

    Save your money for QD-OLED

    • What is that?

    • +1

you'll be paying at least double for a QD .. which btw samsung hasnt even announced yet..

      • I got my 55" LG B7 for only $1700 in 2017.
The QD-OLED is cheaper to manufacture than traditional OLEDs.

either way, when they come out Samsung will lower their price of existing QLED's

        • That same model b7 today is 2.5k…

    • +1

What size QD-OLED TV can you get for $2195? 32 inch?

    • I only hope the Neo will drop to this price when QD-OLED release.

  • Cheaper via Samsung EPP if you have access.

    65": $1979 - $200
    55": $1529 - $200

  • +1

Samsung Frame 75" for $1984 with Employee access Portal is a good deal as well if anyone's looking for a 75" tv

    • +1

      Samsung Frame 75" for $1984

Is that equal to Q70A? Do they have a smaller foot stand?

      • Yep they are comparable. Q70A is slightly better as per rtings. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-the-frame-20…
But at the moment, it's hard to source a well priced 75" tv. Seems like a very popular size but something to consider if ur budget allows and U want a bit more screen real estate.
The foot stand for the Frame is height adjustable. It will fit the Samsung sound bar when fully extended though if that's what the concern is (will touch the bezel slightly though)

        • Would it be worth getting this for the series X? I'll be upgrading my old 8+ year old Sony 60"

  • +2

65" Q85A for $2139 on Samsung EPP is honestly the better buy.

    • How much is 75" on EPP?

      • I don't see the 75" listed for the QN85A but 85" is $4,479.

  • +1

This or the Serif on Samsung EPP with newsletter sign-up for $984?
My understanding is that the Serif is equivalent to a Q70T (edge lit, VA panel), but hey having the stand included eliminates the need to spend money on a separate TV unit.

    • That one looks very weird to me

    • +1

It looks like the discount on the 55" Serif disappeared overnight - I was looking at it yesterday and came back this morning and the price has risen a couple of hundred dollars. So perhaps Samsung has helped to make your decision on this one. :)

  • +1

Is this a significant upgrade from the Q60A?

Any thoughts on this vs. the Sony A85J

  • Regarding q80a vs q70a:
The q70a has way better blacks than q80a, but a worse viewing angle. That seems to be the main difference, the q80a is an IPS panel while q70a is a VA panel.

I'm a little confused why the RTINGS website for the "PC Monitor" category considers the viewing angle so important. Why would a viewing angle matter at all if you're sitting directly in front of it? Having better blacks seems much more important, unless you've got a family watching from all angles.

    • "unless you've got a family watching from all angles."

Um you just answered your own question

      • Yes, I suppose my real question is irrelevant for here and should be posted on the RTINGS.com website instead. They score q80a as being the much better PC monitor (8.7) vs the q70a (8.2), but I believe the q70a is the better PC monitor because viewing angles shouldn't matter so much.

  • Hdmi 2.1 @ 120hz, nice. This is my minimum requirement for any tv moving forward.

    • I just got a LG C1 55 inch and have a XSX and PS5… it's pretty gorgeous that said after playing around with a few 120fps compatible games… I'd generally go with the 60fps quality version of the game… VRR is nice though as is the low input lag… I think the Dolby Vision is the biggest game changer from my old TV to be honest.

  • I have a 2019 Q60 and the light reflection from my kitchen lights or windows makes this TV terrible. Makes me hate the TV.
Does anyone know if the Q80A is better in this respect?

    • +1

no, they have the same reflections. (7.4 vs 7.5 on rtings)

  • Do they use LG panels?

  • Is there a list as to which organisations have access to the EPP?

    • Anyone with a .edu email address

      • or .gov email.. there was a list on a previous samsung deal.. .gov, .telstra, .edu. of the top of my head..
