Not sure if it's been cheaper before, but I think it's a good price for a Makita hand drill.

Here's the brushless version for $148 also.

    Bought this in December.

    • May I ask how do you find the chuck alignment?
Is the bit perfectly straight when rotating, or does it wobble (vibrate) a little?
I had a bad experience with a Makita drill (wobbly chuck, I had to return it) so I wonder if it was a lemon or if it's common?

      • These are chuckless, never had an issue.

        • +2

          Getting confused with brushless?

        • +3

          These are chuckless

Chuck is what holds the bit in place. Keyless chuck perhaps?

      • +1

I think you just got a lemon. I bought a drill and driver combo and had no issues with the keyless chuck.

    • Can I use these Hammer drills as a regular hammer if I slow down the speed setting?

      • mine is good enough for brick walls,

had to go into a concrete floor…. useless

  • +1

i have one,so weak. just ok for fasten screws

    54nm torque, meh toy.

    • Any suggestions for a hammer drill for occasional work drilling bricks. Don't need anything too fancy, just looking to mount a few things in the garage.

      • +1

hard to beat rotary hammer for brick, but if you need a bit more flexibility ozito brushless are good value and lots of skins and occasional Aldi price matches if you decide to grow the collection.

      • +2

Bunnings Ozito should do the trick

        • what about this

        • +4

Yeah mate, for the occasional tv mount and what not, ozito will go through brick. Concrete you might have a orange glow stick.

But most of the crap that people ask here is can be done with an ozito 4a and a craftright 3-10mm "tungsten" bit kit. Maybe "Thrust" the drill.

Mounted 6 TV's / sound bars etc with that and drilling a pilot 5mm hole then a 10mm hole it minces through brick.

I don't get why people say $400 hammer drill.

          Bring on the negativity.

          • +1

@barg99: YEP! For occasional DIY, OZITO is the way to go. Essentially you get a tool that will last 5 years or sometimes almost 10 with warranty. Keep that receipts.

          • +1

@barg99: Am I the only one who keeps water nearby to keep dipping the bit to prevent overheating?

            • @Quarn: Which drill bit as brand did you use? I use kango

The Ryobi brushless one is 85 Nm

            • @jv: Cool, thanks.. I just need for occasional picture/frame hanging

              • +1

@Ehty: i got a cheap ozito corded hammer/chisel drill about 15 years when renovating and it's still going strong.

                • @jv: Wasnt aware Ozito has been around for so long!

                  • +1

            • @jv: Yep, I was going to suggest just getting a cheap corded drill for really hard materials, as well

        • Torque doesn't help here at all in masonry drilling. The parameter you need is called the impact energy measured in Joules. Trust me, I have this brushless hammer drill. But the job ended up done by a Bosch rotary hammer.

            @WayneOZ:

Torque doesn't help here at all in masonry drilling.

It does when you're using an auger in the garden…

          • -2

@WayneOZ: it is BPM(Blows per Minute)

      • You can pick up DeWalt hammer drills for cheap as they just came off redemptions when buying other DeWalt gear so people just flog them off.

Pair this with a good drill bit (the ones with a cross/4 tip) and it will be like butter.

I bought some Milwaukee shitty masonry bits
        https://sydneytools.com.au/product/milwaukee-4932471112-8-pi…

and it took forever to put a 12mm wide hole in brick, went and grabbed a cross tip one
        https://sydneytools.com.au/product/milwaukee-4932352032-12mm…
        and was like butter.

        A 4-5ah battery should suffice.

        • The one in the second link works better because it’s an SDS bit, the first link is regular quick change bits, not ideal for brick/concrete.

      • Get a cheapy SDS for masonary work, can also be used for demo work. Only if you have a lot of drilling to do.

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-900w-sds-3j-rotary-hammer-…

Otherwise, get a drill hammer combo. Ok for wall anchors in brick and can be used for normal driving and drilling into wood and metal.

    Mobile Hammer Driver Drill

As opposed to a Desktop Hammer Drill?

    • No … corded

  • Seems to still be $20 shipping even with Prime?

    • That's right, that's how I put it in the original title and a moderator changed it to "$0 with prime" erroneously.
I just changed it back again, thanks for pointing it out.
Still a very good good price

      • I hate it when Amazon does this. When products go on sale so cheap that their algorithm won't even allow you to receive prime free shipping so it ends up costing more with postage than it even would've had it cost like $5 more.

  • +1

This is back in stock again $75.92 with free shipping.

    • Can you share the link with free shipping? Mine shows up with $20 shipping still.

      • +1

The shipping $20.46 is showing up for me on my phone now. I purchased when I posted this and it was free shipping.
