Hate to nit pick but how many nits?

    • +3

      Itching to find out

    • +1

250 nits typical according to specs, bit higher in practice but couldn't quite hit 300 nits according to testing by RTINGS.

Not a great monitor tbh, I'd suggest either the Dell S2722DGM or S2721DGF depending on what you're after - both are overall better screens than this G5, unless you're specifically after that 1000R curve.

    • IPS better than VA for gaming?

      • +3

Honestly with the quality and price of the S2722DGM, it would be my preferred option for gaming and multimedia.

Ignore the measurements - RTings' dated method means the entire first column of their response measurement tables are wrong - and look instead at the motion pursuit images: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-s2721dgf-v…

You're getting the same response times mostly, just the VA has some mild dark smearing, and the IPS has some powdered trails (mostly seen in the letters appearing wider than they should). The VA offers better contrast, but it's an 8-bit panel versus the 8-bit + dithering from the IPS. The IPS also offers 'HDR', but it's global dimming and it should never be used.

Out of the box, the VA is going to look better, and even after tweaks you're generally going to enjoy the VA more. Save for a couple of elite Samsung models, it's almost always been too much dark smearing to make VA a worthwhile gaming option, but we're here at 144-240 Hz now.

        • Wait so you think the 272DGM VA is worthwhile now? Or still no because of too much black smearing? Could’ve read your comment wrong lol

@Edamamme: It's good. It's genuinely competing with fast IPS at the same refresh rate. Samsung's QHD 240Hz VA is better than QHD 240Hz IPS.

Just need to be mindful that AU Optronics aren't doing well on the VA front from what I can tell, and Samsung only very recently at 144-165Hz.

@jasswolf: Gotcha, thanks Jass. I am tempted for the DGM every sale, but always feel like a better VA panel is surely around the corner! Want my first VA experience to be bliss haha.

    • can you find one from dell that is 299?
