Deliveroo Have Finally Added a Service Fee, Now All The Major Apps Have Them

I have been using Deliveroo a lot as of late as they were the cheapest around. I guess it was only a matter of time, but they now have added a service fee (and my usual place now is charging delivery? it's always been free)

Guess I'll be saving more money now though! haha. I swore off all the others due to all the extra fees. I also noticed they have added a small order fee too…

    Pick up.

    • Wish I'd have thought of that

  • I just do pick ups unless absolutely necessary, but this may be difficult if you live in a suburb.

    • Or if you don't have a car, like 25% of people in some polls.

      • I have a car but at nearly $2/L these days, I'd rather just pay the service fee

      • Or they have a damaged car, like believing they have the right of way

        • Well I like to think legally parked in a shopping centre is having the right of way…..

Remember to report them to ACCC for deceptive conduct when they do free delivery promotion and still charge a service fee. They're hoping users don't realise that delivery companies are delivery services.

Remember to also keep receipts if a class action lawsuit happens.

    • receipts would be kept in app /copies sent to email?

      • For me, Ubereats and Menulog have revised the time estimate ranges when restaurant or driver was delayed. No notification and the only way to see it is to try to track it. Sometimes they kept saying being delivered within 30 minutes up to three hours until we complained and got refunded.

Point is, download all your receipts otherwise they'll conveniently rewrite them without your knowledge.

    • That won't happen. Menulog are all **ass and no class.

    • I was under the impression that these delivery services are more like food resellers than just delivery drivers.

Well selling it as Second Hand Food, doesn't sound classy…

Order direct from restaurants that do their own delivery

To be honest the service fee was the end of any temptation I had to tip.

If you deliver for any of them and whine about not getting tips, tell them to ditch the service fee.

    • +28

      We don't tip in Australia

      • One of the apps has the option - I think it's Ubereats or doordash or one of them.

        • option

DO NOT tip via service or with credit card. Use cash only. The delivery services can just keep the tip.

    • Sorry I don't tip as a rule. Might consider for exceptional service but when do you get that?

i dont get why anyone uses these apps unless your order is $0

idk getting kfc delivered sunday 2 in the arvo when you wake up after a 2 night bender is pretty worth it

    • 2 kids, 40deg days, not lugging them in and out of the car to pick up a takeaway lol

The other day Menulog part-delivered an order to me.
Sure they Credited my account, only when I complained.

But, should I get a Service Fee credit?

"A Service Fee is applied to select orders to help ensure we can continue to provide the best possible experience to customers and is an investment in continuously improving the service we provide. The fee does not apply to collection orders"

Why should I "invest" in their continuously improving the service they provide?

Isn't that what their Shareholders do?

    Will I get a dividend?

Should there be a Product Disclosure Statement?

I don't get it. even if you pay it, they don't deliver.

provide the best possible experience to customers

So that was a f'n lie.

  • +2

Yep. Noticed it. I promptly deleted the app. I only have menulog now just in case j use a restaurant that self delivers and no extra fees

  • Is this the case for deliveroo plus? I actually stuck with plus after the free trial, I think it offers some pretty good discounts in addition to the free delivery

  • I prefer UberPass @ $9.99pm which offers discounts (and Promos) on UberEats and Uber transport.
https://www.ubereats.com/au/eats-pass There are still service fees but the Min Order for Free Delivery is usually $20.

    • +1

The pass is good "value" if you order more than one delivery a month.

But then you are spending min $50 ($10 + two $20 deliveries) a month just to break even for a delivery service you don't necessarily need.

      • Yeah, but they got me on the Uber Car thing.. so savings there…

I remember when Delivery were Free (free, free…) now it is a damn Cartel like OPEC.

Does anyone remember DeliveryHero? Good times…

  • Lol @ pickup

I hear Pizza hut will pay YOU to pick it up. IE be their delivery boy.

All of these food delivery services are little more than parasites feeding off all the hard work by others and charging exorbitant fees in the process

  • I guess it’s time to uninstall deliveroo too and just call the restaurant and pick up my food. Will be fresher and cheaper anyway

  • Hmmm I have $230 in credit (bought discount gift cards)with Deliveroo. Forgot I had that . So what is the best way I can use that up and not get charged fees? Pick up might be the best way.
