[PC, Epic] Satisfactory (Early Access) $31.46 ($16.46 after $15 Coupon) @ Epic Games

370

"Satisfactory is a first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat. Play alone or with friends, explore an alien planet, create multi-story factories, and enter conveyor belt heaven!" ~ Epic Games

I believe the 30% off + $15 discount results in the equal lowest price ever for Satisfactory. I've heard a lot of good things about the game and have been waiting for the right price to pull the trigger.

Deal is identical to SpainKing's post, which expired a number of weeks ago. I thought I would pick it up end of that first week of Jan but sadly forgot, as is my wont. Thought I'd have to wait quite a while to get it at that price again…

Anyway, I went to pick up the usual freebie and happily got a wishlist notification that Satisfactory was 30% off again, and since Epic has another $15 discount offer going till the end of Feb, I was able to grab Satisfactory for the same lowest price. But the 30% Satisfactory offer ends on the 11th, so get in soon if you want to take advantage of the combined discount.

Please let me know if I am doing this posting deal thing wrong so I can go back and fix it up. Cheers :)

WARNING: This game can be addictive. I am scared to look at number of hours played (if that's even possible)

    • +1

7+ days play time, not even nuclear :(

    • +3

Logged over 1000 hours in Factorio, around 500 hours in Fallout 4 (building settlements), with 300 hours and rising in Dyson Sphere Program.

I dont think I can find enough time for another factory game :(

      • Is Dyson Sphere good? I have spent hundreds of hours on Factorio, but gave up Dyson Sphere within 1 hour. Satisfactory is very good though.

        • Dyson is basically a factorio wrapped in a relatively nice package material.

IMO Dyson is what was required for a bit less hardcore players, hence the popularity.

Satisfactory is a whole new level tho lol.

        • DSP does a lot of cool things and has its own depth. I wouldn't call it an easier version of Factorio or Satisfactory because as I said it has its own depth.

If you're interested, have a look at KatherineOfSky on Youtube, she's doing a series on DSP atm and it will give you an idea (she's a factorio OG if it matters)

      • Never heard of Dyson Sphere Program, I'll give it a look.

      • +1

        Try Riftbreaker next!

    • I didn't have a lot of work to do at the start of covid, so I played this a lot. I became very obsessed, would spend 8+ hours a day playing it. Had to cut myself off.

  • +1

Awesome game. You can cross play between epic and steam players on multi-player now.
Either player hosted or dedicated server.

    • I'm not sure if dedicated servers still have issues but I would look up on it if you're thinking of going this path as it is still beta. Joining a mate who is hosting is incredibly easy too, even if they're on Epic and you're on Steam.

One of my favourite games of all time. I've also completely played through Dyson Sphere Program and only a bit of Factorio. One thing I find is there is a lot of tedious stuff you have to do, whereas Factorio and DSP you get straight to the building of factories.

Regardless, $30 is a steal for this game and the developers are one of the best teams I've seen community engagement wise.

    • What did you find tedious?

      • Train lines for example take a lot longer because you have to deal with uneven terrain, adding supports, ensuring enough spacing between the lines.

Factories you have to lay down a tonne of floor space just to get a flat surface, deal with alignment of splitters and mergers if you want it to be neat, individually place them all etc. Not as easy as running a line of belt in Factorio and adding some inserters.

Those are just two examples, but there are many more things that mostly become apparent in late game.

        • deal with alignment of splitters and mergers if you want it to be neat

I don't think it's that bad, there's a universal grid in the game now so regardless of where you are you can have everything line up perfectly. Plus with buildings you have that handy green line helping you line up (which I'm sure you already know).

I think that's why I like Satisfactory more, you're right in that it's slower to get going but for me it feels like I'm having more of an impact with designing my base rather than doing a generic main bus and branching off from there. This isn't a slight against Factorio or DSP either, both are fantastic games that do their own thing, I just like Satisfactory a bit more in that regard, plus it has a lot of useful QoL that the other two don't have.

Can't wait to see what the Factorio expansion is going to be since they've said it's going to be massive.

          • @Kozhutki: The QoL features certainly do help, wish there was vertical alignment for splitters/mergers though and ability to build them down from one another rather than just up, but hopefully time will solve those problems.

Universal grid is alright, but doesn't adapt to the buildings I've already made on the same grid AFAIK, bit of a pain on a world with hundreds of hours invested before that feature came out.

Agree that it does have more of an impact, just sometimes can be boring to place down the same thing 100s of times, really need blueprints…

            • @reloxation:

just sometimes can be boring to place down the same thing 100s of times, really need blueprints…

Have you looked into any of the mods? I believe there's a blueprint one, unsure of how good it is however. I imagine blueprints will come eventually, devs are pretty receptive to the wishlist of the community

        • yep, a lot of QoL stuff is missing/needed. It's great game but defs lacking some polish. But it is still early access so hopefully it will get there.

  • Is this comparable to Subnautica? Recently got into Subnautica recently and looking for something similar.

    • +3

      Very different game.
      Subnautica = 25% combat, 25% exploration, 25% base building, 25% resource gathering
      Satisfactory = 1% combat, 3% exploration, 95% base building, 1% resource gathering

If you liked Subnautica there is the sequel "below zero"

Satisfactory is a great game… seriously addictive. Great for all ages (7 year old loves it)

    • +1

Having played both, this is better. Subnautica is a base building game that stops as soon as you "finish the tech tree", where you collect large amounts of individual items.

Satisfactory has resource nodes that never dwindle, never run out - you continue expanding the base larger and larger, only stops when you want it to stop.

As per the above comments, I recently started my first playthrough with 80-odd hours after watching about 20hrs of YouTube videos over the years and got to aluminium, not nuclear. Each 10hr window was vastly different and great fun and I intend to come back for more soon

      • +1

well it does actually stop. because the map is not infinite, there are a limited number of nodes, so you'll run out of available bandwidth.

      • It baffles me that you could even pretend that Subnautica and Satisfactory are in the same wheel house. They're different games.

Subnautica is heavily story driven and the mechanics of the game speak directly to furthering the story until you finish the game.

Satisfactory has a weak story, if you can even call it a story, and the mechanics of the game speak to what is tantamount to a sandbox game if anything.

Both are great games, but to compare them is unfair as the elements that make them great are not at all related to one another.

    • +1

Subnautica is a pants browning expiration game with a bit of building.

Satisfactory is building game with a bunch of hidden maths problems.

      • hidden maths?

        • Min/Max efficiency for later stage materials.

First 100 hours of the game you can just build whatever, but once you start unlocking alternates plus heading towards nuke, I found I really needed to be on top of my numbers.

          • @Nalar: oh you just meant the optimization that you can do, throughput rates and such. I was thinking there were puzzles or something that I missed haha.
But ye I wouldn't say it's necessary to optimize too much that you need to do maths and ratios, it'll just take longer, and you'll be inefficient and get problems with parts of your factory.

            • @Aequitas: Once I got to tier 8 I was screwed with the 3 item things to feed to the space station.

Had my first factory grind to a halt every 5 mins due to clogged storage :(

    • Thanks for all the comments, I tried getting into Factorio but was a little overwhelmed. I love supply chain games (Anno 1800, Transport fever etc) but just want to find out more about the game before sinking another $35 on my pile of shame :D.

      • +1

you can always request refund if it wasn't your cup of tea.
That's what I thought before sinking to this game for 200+ hours…

      • I think factorio is a lot less overwhelming than satisfactory. At the very least it's a lot cleaner.

    • +1

      Not in the slightest.

  • I've been keeping up to date with everything, but I haven't actually picked up the game in a few months as I'm scared of how many additional hours I'll spend with all the new update additions…

Easily one of my top ten games of all time.

  • Oh my, I’m a bit addicted after just a few hours play. Simulation games are really the only ones I play (except for The Sims). Was addicted to the SimCity games though, since SimCity 2000.
