  • Fire Pro 1x 1m Fire Blanket $6.94

    For really small fires….

  • I can't see what you would use this for?
1x1m seems too small to be of use.

    • +4

It should fit over a kitchen stove or a single appliance.

    • Use it as a cover cloth when welding or grinding.

I had to use one of these at home for the first time on my stove last week. IMHO essential for every kitchen.

Good feedback, this is one of the cheapest and simplest devices that can save you from a disaster.

I can only assume yours was gigantic to be of any use; what, Queen Size? /s

*for the benefit of the multiple users commenting that a square metre isn't large enough.

    • lucky. If i had a fire, by the time i realised where i 'placed' this thing, my house would be ash.

    • How does it taste ..

    • A good towel would work as well.

I wouldn't count on it. The moment the fire burns a hole through, the oxygen rushes in and flash fire boom!

But if anyone has to use anything, please use wool, it's thick and smothers oxygen, doesn't not melt or drip at all and wool self extinguishes itself. If I remember correctly, to ignite wool it's very near the melt point of gold which no pan fire will reach (not quickly Enough at least)

"Fire Pro's 1m x 1m high performance fire distinguishing blanket"

Nothing like a distinguished fire to enhance the value of your home.

  • What size would people typically recommend to have in the kitchen? My stove is only 60cm x 60cm with 4 gas burners - all my other appliances are generally this size or smaller. Curious as i didn't think this was small but seems like the consensus is it is!

    • I guess make sure it is big enough for use on an adult human in case worst case scenario comes to fire.

  • Not recommend, used it on deep fryer once, not working. Finally terminated the fire with extinguisher.

  • Is this mostly relevant for gas stoves? Wouldn't be really necessary for induction stove top right?

What sort of first world nonsense is this? You'd buy a blanket for a fire but it's already warm, how's about buying one for the homeless?

  • +2

To all concerned, this size is fine for its intended purpose of placing over a single pot on fire.
If you do buy it however, please make sure you mount it somewhere properly and with easy access and also… make sure you know how to use it!
I see so many people with burns trying to use it with no prior knowledge. Dont read the instructions when the time comes as in 99% of people, the brain does not absorb and process information well enough in an emergency situation. AKA Cabage head

  • For a larger blanket, the Fire Pro 1.2 x 1.8m Fire Blanket @ Bunnings for $15.60 seems to be the best price even though it is not on special. Anyone know of any better deals?

    • Depends on what you want to use it for and why you need the extra size?
The bigger a blanket for the same sized small pot fire, won't make it any easier to use, nor be any safer to use

      • I have never had to use a fire blanket, and probably (hopefully) will never need to.

I guess what I want to find out is whether there are advantages in putting a larger blanket in a holster in the kitchen, for the sake of an extra $8?

You may be right that having a bigger blanket for a small sized pot fire will not make it any easier to use, but what if that small fire becomes a larger one - could the small blanket become ineffective?
