OOS i think. what a bargain though

  • Got one 2 local stores away.

    That's 5 x4L oil drops for me ($6.40 + filter)

    • what store? cant find anything around sydney

      • Regional Vic - showing no stock now - I must have got the last one.

I hope it wasn't a stock counting error.

Edit: I haven't received my 15 minute click and collect notification. Normally this store is all over it. Fingers crossed.

Edit 2: yep, they came through with the goods Exhibit B

    What a find

  • +2

Just posted in the other deal about holding out but bugger it, this is an epic deal.

    • But its not Edge?

      • yeah use this for the beater cars that are unlikely to need it.

        • +2

That's a bit unfair. Plenty of newish cars that this is more than suitable for.

          • +1

@Muzeeb: Yeah I was referring to track car in the other thread.

        • It's also 20L so I retract my comment, great deal if you can find it.

      • 'Castrol MAGNATEC Stop-Start 5W-30 is suitable for use in automotive petrol and diesel engines where the manufacturer recommends an API SN, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 or earlier specification 5W-30 lubricant"

        Which is pretty broad.

        • +1

And you'll find that cheaper cars that ask for A5 will in the manual say something like..

If A5 is not available you can substitute with A3.

My understanding is that you may get slightly better fuel economy using A5 over A3. They are both extended drain interval oils.

          • @Muzeeb: Yes that's right, although personally wouldnt use A5 where A3 is specified. Might be OK as a substitute the other way around though

  • None close to me, doubt my car would last as long as this would provide oil changes. Pretty common grade though

    Amazing deal

  • Isn't Castrol Edge better for a few dollars more?

    • +9

This is 20 litres my friend

      • Oh wow, so it is!

  • +1

Great find and awesome first post.

Trick is to call their customer service to find stores Australia wide with stock, change the store on the website to said stores with stock, enter Ignition Rewards on checkout for $5 shipping. Not sure if this is valid for $5 delivery but afaik Repco has flat $10 shipping normally, half price for rewards members. Worth a try.

  • SURELY ITS A PRICING ERROR!?

      • +1

It could still be a pricing error

        • That makes sense. Cheers

Picked up one for my Tesla model 3 when it's delivered.

    • should return it, the oil will be stale by the time tesla deliver your car.

      • Might have a bit of trouble locating the oil filler and dipstick in a Tesla

        • oh the oil filter will be on back order from tesla

good luck getting that spare part, you might have to buy another model 3 and wait 20 years for that

  • I had my Hilux recently serviced at Toyota, wondering why they used Magnatec and not Toyota genuine oil?

    • +2

      Toyota don't make oil.

Sorry if that comes as a shock to you.

      • My local Honda used Magnatec back in the day when i was getting my car serviced there.

        • most Honda dealers use Honda Leo 0w-20 now but you got ones that uses what ever they want and charge the same

      • +3

lol, I bet this surprises heaps of people

        https://www.newtowntoyota.parts/assets/alt_1/TO0888083301.jp…

"made and packed in australia for toyota motor corporation"

I bet the manufacturer of "toyota oil" changes every few years when toyota races to the bottom to find someone to make its oil even cheaper

        • +1

          Not to be taken

how am I going to use it if I can't take it?

          • @Jackson: Have to use a chaser. I suggest coke

            • @MrThing: 32L should work out well for my fish and chip shop

      • @MS Paint, But they have Toyota branded oil, so why on earth would they use Magnatec and not push or promote their own branded product.

        • $$$

        • Yes, wondered the same thing 20 years ago. Practically no dealers in Aus, use the Genuine oil. Furthermore, a lot of dealers use a "custom blend" from big oil companies. For example, when you see a 205 Litre drum of Castrol at the back, it is not the same as a retail Castrol blend you can buy from SuperCheap. It is a cheap version that will meet all minimum specs, which is arguably good enough, but that is it. Interestingly, dealers will not use "junk" in transmissions, and almost always Genuine.

          • @Charity: Transmission oil only needs changing perhaps once or never. :)

      • the last monaros had Mobil 1 0w30 so they could pass the USA emission tests …. some manufacturers are quite open about what the factory fill oil is as is the case with my BMW, was Castrol.

    ozbargained

  • Good find but no stock nearby.

  • OOS all nearby stores…:(

  • In-stock at my local, refreshed, gone.

Still in stock for Caloundra, QLD and a few others around.

  • Can this be used on a lawnmower?

  • OOS on the Gold coast area

    • OOS everywhere I checked around Sydney

  • +1

There is stock in Bathurst, NSW.
    Go OzzzzBargainers go go go.

  • Never seen oil this cheap lol.

  • I think they found out it was a price error and now everywhere OOS

  • +2

Hey guys, Soapy here, I got 1 from my local store, a lot of people must've ordered (or maybe Repco took it down) because it's available everywhere (green everywhere) when posting it

    • Awesome first post. Thanks for sharing.

  • +1

    Hey guys!!

I bought this click and collect yesterday thinking it was a pricing error and would be cancelled - nope, person at the front desk looked a bit confused but handed it over no worries.

I bought 3x5L of the stuff for $20 apiece back in 2019 and though that was a great price back then. Used in a 2010 Prius and 2006 Colt, performed well. Just remember to change your piston return springs at the same time, making sure to apply some medium strength thread locker.

    • Why didn't you post on ozb?

      • All the stores around me had no stock except one, then when I bought mine that store was also out of stock, so I didn't want to post a bargain that had no stock. Didn't realise other stores around the country had stock.

    • +1

Heavier PRS = more horsepower, until the point that its not

  • Without using a pump how can you pour from this drum

    • -1

Drum tap - usually has a plughole in the side, or you can get one for the lid…

      • No these don't.

  • -3

Only problem is I dont use 20 L at once, maximum use is 4.2L once for biggest car in house.

And ofcourse Oil breaks down, so cannot use it 6 months later (as the bottle/container's seal/cap had been opened)

    • 6m is not true if you keep in well stored

      • What's the maximum then?

        • 1 year

longer if you are feeling adventurous but I wouldn't

you're pretty much getting 20L for the price of 5L… maybe you can share it with your friends?

          • @Poor Ass: Have Midnight Oil party…..

          • +1

@Poor Ass: That's rubbish. If it were 1 year shelf life then half the stock out there would have expiry dates. All the wisodm on bobistheoilguy seem to agree modern synthetics basically have unlimited shelf life.

      • -1

Synthetic oil and synthetic blend oil will last about 7-8 years, and maybe even longer. Spource, Dr. Google

        • +2

With the seal broken? Nah mate

          • +1

@Poor Ass: It's not brake fluid lols.

            • @Calvin27: that's a hydroscopic issue but you still don't want to use a bottle of already cracked opened engine oil that's been sitting too long… it'll still lubricate fine but just possible chance for contamination and oxidisation if you want to take care of your car

          • @Poor Ass: Yeah maybe the detergents oxidize or something.

    • +1

Engine oil is not vacuum sealed, the foil sticker is for spill prevention and safety. In fact some manufacturers do not have seals in their bottles so an opened bottle is just as good as the brand new one off the shelf.

      Let's debunk some concerns:

      • Engine oil is not hydroscopic - have you ever mixed water with any kind of oil? Much more condensation forms inside engines and it burns off as you drive.
      • Oxidation doubles with every 10 degrees C increase in temperature. Full synth lasts 12 months in an engine block running at operating temperature. Hence negligible in a bottle.
      • Contamination is irrelevant in a closed container.

Blackstone Labs did experiments with dino oil decades old and found they're still quite useable with additives intact. For the curious: Exhibit A & B

Hope this leaves your mind at ease about hoarding oil. 😂

      • NICE WORK. There are many myths among mechanics.

    • Oil breaks down, so cannot use it 6 months late

      hahahhahahhahahahaa

  • Now $100

    • yea :( that was some discount…. shows what markup they actually run on.

      • I think its more likely that some knucklehead entered the wrong price on the site - perhaps $32 was going to be the discount?

        • Think so. NICE WORK if you got some though.

  • Thanks OP was able to pick up today and got the deal - good one!

  • Anyone tried something like this cap tap?
