Nice. At peak strength, double my body weight.

  • I have the Harbinger brown/black leather one, is this black nylon one much more comfy?

    • After some googling, it seems:

      Leather Belt Pros:
      -Very sturdy and durable
      -Good for heavier lifting

      Leather belt cons:
      -More expensive
-More rigid, may be less comfy
      (can dig into hips/ribs)

      Nylon Belt Pros:
-More comfy, esp for dynamic exercises (e.g. farmers lifts)
-More variety of closure (e.g. buckles, velcro)
      -Slightly more affordable

      Nylon Belt Cons:
-Less durable/rigid, potential to rip/break for very heavy lifts

For $15, I reckon it could be worth a go, in case I like it better hmm.
Keen to hear any first-hand opinions too!

Nylon belts tend to offer a false sense of security for people that wear them. They give no support and will easily flex with abdominal breathing. If this was your only option I would be questioning whether you actually need a belt. You're better off learning to control your breathing without it (a majority of lifters won't need one).

Remember you're looking for a belt that can support you, not a fashion accessory that's "comfortable". A good leather belt may be expensive but it'll last 10+ fold that of a nylon.

        I guess it's your $ though.

Not sure why you're hating on a $15 belt so much.

For lots of people it's just the psychology of wearing one and this will serve that purpose fine.

The other major benefit of nylon is that it's easily washable. A leather one isn't. I don't know about you, but I can sweat 1-2l of water in a single session (yes, I know if depends what you're doing). There's no way a leather belt wouldn't stink like my farts after a few weeks.

Dimz said it down there but these are not considered very good. He's been downvoted so his comment might disappear but I tend to agree
If you're a novice, I think that these are fine. But if you're taking gym seriously, starting to lift heavier weight, it might be worth investing in a leather belt.

The biggest pro is that they are more comfortable, but you aren't wearing a belt for a long period of time. Once the set is over you take it off (leather or nylon). Also no equipment used for sport is ever considered that comfortable. If you think your football boots or basketball shoes are comfortable compared to your running shoes I'd have to say you probably have rocks for feet. The tools we use in sport are meant to give us optimum performance, comfort is an afterthought. We would rather have grip when we run and deal with sore feet later than to slip everywhere while turning.

Side note that people might not care about, but at the top level of any lifting, very few people are using nylon belts over leather ones. Powerlifters, weightlifters and even bodybuilders.

        • Hmm I see what you mean, perhaps I'll stick with my leather belt as it's working well for me.

Thanks to you both for sharing your insight!

  • The classic gym bro belt.

Either put the $ toward a proper leather one with support or don't bother.

Do you mean this black nylon belt doesn't have as good support as the leather one?

        You're a smart fella

    • Not sure why people are downvoting you but you're right.

You need a belt if you have an injury, or are trying to lift beyond your bodies capability. Flame away!

Lifting with an injury … sure fire way to permanently disable yourself.

Lots of people hating on the nylon belt. I own both leather and nylon. While the leather belt is better for heavier squats/deadlifts, I use the nylon belt frequently for olympic lifts and warmup weights - it is more flexible and less restrictive for explosive movements.

Depends on your use case - they both have pros and cons, there's nothing wrong with a nylon belt and if you plan to upgrade later on you can use it to practice tightening your body with a belt under load.

Are there any deals on some sissy mittens to go with the belt?

  • Showing as $21.60 ended ?

  • In case anbody prefers leather, I noticed some decently priced Leather Harbinger Belts. I think there is only the 4inch variety left now in Small for $19.95

  • This is cheap enough if you are curious to see if a belt is of benefit.

If this belt turns out to be of benefit a leather belt is a good upgrade especially as you get up to lifting heavier.
