Best deal with Thai calls included

Hey all,

I have a colleague paying $50 a month for 10GB and calls to Thailand included.

This seems really expensive to me but I’ve no idea what’s around that includes Thai calls that might be better value.

Anyone know of anything?

Pre or post (at a pinch), any network’ll do in her area, doesn’t have to be a special just better value than what she’s paying now…

Thanks in advance

Does she just call the same person in Thailand? If so then they could both get Whatsapp and make calls using data. Then get any cheap prepaid plan with enough data.

Maybe start with Kogan 90 days 60GB $14.90 to get a feel for how much data she needs.

Thai people seem to love using LINE app. (Messaging and data calls)

Get a Thai Sim, use voice over wifi. Top-up online.
This is just a local call.

    Provided her phone supports it.

Thanks, good thought but she’s older (as are most of her contacts in Thailand), I think it’ll be easier to nut out an included international calls plan. Her husband uses her phone for calls too and he’s even less tech savvy than her.

I saw Coles mobile has $20/pm with Thai included and 15GB, anyone know of a more tempting offering?

The 365 day plan is better value, for $150 / 120GB

Yep good idea. Here is the link.

Sure beats $50 per month. As an Ozbargainer that just hurts to hear people are still paying that much!

  • Get a Thai Sim

    Thanks I’ll look into it

True has 1hour free from TrueID app, even if she has zero credit each month. Uses voice over wifi

does it have to be a from a mobile phone, if not, see what internet plan she has at home, for instance, with mine, i can add unlimited calls to landline and mobile to 15 countries(including Thailand) for $20 (or 100 minutes for $10)

    • i can add unlimited calls to landline and mobile to 15 countries

Thanks, great idea but they don’t have any kind of connection outside of her mobile.

      • buy a cheap phone, it plugs into the modem( dont know about all modems)

        • Yeh they don’t have one, weirdly bullish against them

@0jay: cheap VOIP plan could be an option and you can just use the mobile and data. For me i just use Vowifi which is the far cheaper option then anything here and it uses your local number, which they can call you as well and they are just charged a normal rate for a local call.

Also, for $35, she can get 40Gb plus unlimited calls and text to Thailand from Woolworths, plus 10% off her shop once a month

  • unlimited calls and text to Thailand from Woolworths, plus 10% off her shop

Good thought, that’s on the shortlist

    • so if she does a big $150 shop once a month, that basically would make the plan $20 per month

      • Haha yes I like the idea of it. She works hospitality though and I think their shops are limited to beer and noodles ;)

        • This exact same plan is available for $30 prepaid per 30 days as well, she would have to keep recharging though obviously

          • @Qazxswec: they have an auto recharge system, so this might be a good option

          • @Qazxswec:

available for $30 prepaid per 30 days as well

Good to know. I’ll run it by her, I suspect $12.50/pm with the same data she has now’ll win out but we’ll see.

They don’t have a car so even if they were inclined to big monthly shops it’s not really practical to maximise benefit from the monthly 10%

            • @0jay: what plan is $12.50?

              • @Qazxswec:

                what plan is $12.50?

It’s the 365/$150/120GB on Coles Mobile

CALLS ARE FREE IF IN RELATION TO A SICK BUFFALO.

  • I use Felix (Vodafone network) which has unlimited calls, texts & mobile data (speed up to 20Mbps) for $35 per month.

For an extra $5 per month you can get unlimited calls & texts to 40 countries, including Thailand.

  • I pay $49pm… 100gb, and unlimited calls to Thailand.
    Who pays $50 for 10gb….

    Ring Optus

    • $49pm… 100gb

Ta, the priority is to save money, data is the least significant element.

For an extra $5 per month you can get unlimited calls & texts to 40 countries

      Thanks.

  • Coles mobile 365 days plan will be your best option for value in terms of plans you can buy readily.

The only time I've seen other deals beat it, is amaysim Cashback deal for the $200 365 day plan with Cash rewards posted by TA (which after CR it came down to $55), but as that is luck/timing based whether you can come across it.

Coles mobile 365 days plan will be your best option

    Agree (thanks brawndo!)

It's better for some to find a good value option that's available everyday as distinct from short term specials and I reckon this'll fit the bill for her.

Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions!

It will be on sale starting Wed.
