A decent price for this newer model, with the ability to connect a sub down the track. I bought a set a couple weeks ago and they're great. Personally I find them better than the Logitech z623 they replaced.

  • Hi all,
Im noob at audio and im looking for a new speakers.
I was looking at Edifier R1380DB
I wonder if R1855DB is better than R1380DB. I'm considering R1380DB due to APTX codec but please explain which one to get. Thank you so much!

Anything streaming over Bluetooth sucks, best to get passives with an amp capable of wifi streaming

    • +8

      For $169?

      • -2

Will be more, but could get a bargain if you look on marketplace. Sound quality will be significantly better

    • +1

I got two Symfonisks for $280. Streaming without needing a device so much more convenient.

    • Why is that the case? Streaming Bluetooth seemed fine to me?

      • +1

The sound quality is not the same, if you have the chance to listen to both, you will notice easily.

        • Thanks, had no idea.

  • I have z623 at home and I know they are bass monsters. If you consider the bass from z623 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. How much bass do you think these would output? Thanks.

    • +1

These have a sub out port. So you can attach even a cheap sub and it will blow the Logitechs out of the water. But not just bass, you will get a better detailed sound through these over the z623 because they have bigger drivers.

    • +3

The bass from these 2.0 speakers comes close IMO. You may not get some of the deep rumbling bass if you have the Z623 sub cranked to 100%, but I never did anyway. What you miss out on with sub frequencies, you gain in clarity.

      • Thanks, Clarity wise, are these atleast 30 to 40% better than z623?

        • +2

Around 30% seems right (it's difficult to give a percentage). I didn't really want to change them tbh, but I have a baby that's now climbing on things and the Z623 sub box is very sharp. The Logitech's are still great, but I've been impressed by the sound of the Edifiers, they look better, and take up less room without a sub.

If you're still happy with the Z623s then you could probably spend $169 on something else, or wait for a better deal. Looks like they've been below $150 in the past.

          • @Dave Bowman: i have 2 pairs of Z623s lol both picked up from FB marketplace, 1 for the projector and one for the desktop, maybe its time to swap the desktop with a good pair of edifiers. Initially I thought Z350db, but I then was thinking S2000mkii, but they dont have the sub out, or probably even dont need one. lol.

            • @John Doh: These would be ideal for a desktop, you don't need a sub and the bass would be right in your face. The speakers themselves are a fair bit bigger than the Z623 though, so just make sure you'll have the room for them.

              • +1

@Dave Bowman: I agree with you and I cant use all the bass anyway as I astay in a apartment. Thanks for the comparision, thats what I needed. I still think I will wait for a S2000mkii as iam in no hurry.

    • +1

I had the sub that came with the Logitech Z-2300 speakers and replaced them with this 2.0 set. Having the sub will produce more base then without it, you can probably get all of the objects in your room sharking when you turn the bass up - that won't happen with these speakers but you can still feel the vibrations through the desk and your hands.

They are large speakers as mentioned, and barley fit on my desk next to my ultra wide monitor. Not having the sub has never been an issue for me, actually it's made things easier as there is less space taken up on the floor. The Bluetooth function is handy in some situations too.

I only upgraded because my speakers started having issues.

      • Cool, thanks for sharing!

  • Can you use the Z623 sub for these ?

  • Bi-amplifier system with DSP and electronic crossovers.

    Nice feature

  • Kinda wish I'd gotten these over the much bigger r2750's… They are fantastic speakers but too big for the room I've got them in

    • but damn they sound good

  • They sure would be better than the z623s given the giant leap in technology used in these - oh and yeah they cost more than the z263s when they are discounted

  • hows this compare to 1280DB which currenlty $109 via catch

    • +2

They have a similar sound signature, but you will get more bass and a louder sound from the 1855db. So it would depend on your needs and space. For computer desktop speakers you will be ok with 1280. But in a larger room or for tv, you'll want the 1855db. I would stretch the extra 50 dollars if possible to future proof your speakers with the 1855db, since you can add a sub to it at a later point. Sub makes a huge difference, especially if you are watching movies.

      • alreay got soundbar for my TV, this just for my PC speaker :)
        Thx for the tips!

        • +1

You should be sweet with these then, I use the 1280 for my pc and never really need to crank them. Gotta say I do wish it was slightly bassier, although take that with a grain of salt, as I love bass heavy music.

  • Anyone know if there are syncing/delay issues running more than one pair off the same PC ? For instance, can you buy 2 of these and a sub and get a 5.1 setup out of it ?

    • I wouldn't recommend this. It's not really how surround sound works. In a typical 5.1, the rear speakers are receiving a different signal to the front speakers. If you have rear and front receiving same sound, it would be horrible. These speakers in a 2.1 setup would blow your socks off. I would just start with this. Or get some cheap passive speakers off Gumtree and an amplifier and do a proper 5.1 setup.

      • Well, that's my question: can they be made to get separate channel outputs or does bluetooth go: no you've already got this same device connected to BT and it's getting stereo 2.1 and that's it. And if you CAN connect more than 1, do they get any audio delay going through different interfaces setting them out of sync?

        • Oh I see. You can only operate one input choice at a time. If you're using Bluetooth, that's it. There's no option or method of adding additional speakers.

          • @ifreddo: I think it's theoretically possible. you would need extra bluetooth receivers and then just some software that can route the channels to the correct bluetooth pair of speakers. Though I'm pretty sure that the delay introduced by the bluetooth connection will already be enough to make the surround sound 'off' and then because you're using so many bluetooth devices, theyre likely to interfere with each other and increase the delay even more. Would be a fun project but I don't think there's any consumer level hardware or software for this.

        • That sounds like more of the device transmitting the BT signal rather than the receiver, best to research the device that's sending it.

My phone does allow multiple BT devices but doesn't let me change sync, although its a few years old.

  • I have these, purchased just before Christmas to go with my plasma tv (no room for a soundbar) and I love them. The sound is leaps and bounds better and they get plenty loud enough for our usage. I have no experience with other speakers and would not consider myself an audiophile. My only negative is that I need another remote just to change the volume and I swear each streaming service has a different default sound level.

    • I have a similar use basis. Mine were great with the TV, and I now use them for my computer. Much better sound than a soundbar, and cheaper.

    • If you plug them in with the headphone jack you shouldn't need another remote. Some TV / Android box remotes also control them with the other inputs.

  • Have the 1280db.. awesome for my PC speakers but yeah a bit lacking as living room speakers. but love the brand so would def buy this if I didn't already have the 1280db's…. Nice and versatile

  • Does it auto on or off when it sense audio signal?
Don't want yet another device to turn on and off just to watch TV

  • These were $139 delivered in Dec 2021: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672299

  • +1

Thanks man, these were just what i was after, they look like they pack a bit of punch as well

    • No worries, yep they're awesome. Enjoy :)

  • Nice discount but these were down to $139 not long ago. Hanging out for that price again!

Currently using some R1000T but so want something better.

    • +1

      They weren't the 2.0 model

      • There is a 2.0 model?

I thought the 2.0 was the number of speakers? According to Camel3 these are the same Amazon product code? I know thre was an 1850DB

  • I've got the Edifier R1700BT bookshelf speakers. Had them on my PC but got sick of the rubbish sound from Samsung TV speakers so moved them over, and they're huge improvement. Only issue, but a significant one, and again this is a TV issue, is that the Samsung One remote wont control them by Bluetooth and the Edifier remote with my model is pretty flimsy. I tried attaching them by optical (using an adapter) and could, but again the Samsung One remote does not support Edifier brand when trying to set up, so with my particular tv the drawback is that I have to use two remotes with Edifier…though I'm waiting for a mate to drop off an HDMI to analogy adapter to see if that works.

The remote on the OPs post is way better than my model's.

  • Anyone got a good value sub recommendation to pair with these?

  • I've been waiting for the s360db to come back in stock, but should i grab these instead with a sub?

  • I have this. They are fantastic.
Anyone have subs they can recommend?

  • I've been using the 1855s since I upgraded from a smaller 2.0 Bose set, and these are wonderful and so so loud. It's on my multimedia PC and they do have great clarity. The size of the speakers are quite big, be prepared to prepare some real estate for them!

  • Any owners of edifier's 2.0 speakers (around the R1855/1700 range) actually try these with sub-out? I've got the R1855's from a previous deal and (much like the 1700) I found that even without the sub out the bass was there, but the dialogue was somewhat lacking

  • +1

These R1855DB seem to have been cheaper all the way down to $139 including $149 and $153. Is this a newer model as people describe, or are they comparing to R1850DB (-5)? If a newer model, what is the difference? Older Ozb posts for the $139 price link to the same model on sale here.

  • Any cheap sub recommendations for these?
