Buzzword "AI" so does it need internet access or can it do it's "AI" offline?
Also if it is on the wifi does it work with no internet access?

I have one of these with stand (not wall mount) and I find it works really well. I couldn't imagine now using one of those baby monitors that have a standalone separate low quality screen unit.

You definitely need wifi and internet connectivity for the AI. For me the only AI functionality I use is the sleep analytics one just to check how many times the little one wakes up at night without crying for attention. Early on I did use the roll-over alerts too as a new parent but that anxiety soon eased and you do get quite a few false alerts; my little one sleeps on the stomach anyway so kind of useless in my case!

Honestly not sure if it works just on wifi without internet connectivity. I don't think it would work in that case now that I think about it, but have never had my internet go down at a time when I access the monitor so in practice for me has not been an issue. As with any baby monitor I'd advise not having your baby fully out of crying/screaming in the dead of night earshot anyway, which shouldn't be a problem unless you live in a mansion

Hi legs. Have you had it for longer than 1 year? Did you opt to keep paying for a subscription service? I'm just wondering how good the system is without paying for the ongoing subscription service.

I've been using it less than a year, so am on the free trial currently of the AI Care Premium service. I didn't buy the Cubo for the Premium features at all and only activated Premium because of the 1 year free trial period. In addition to the standard features, the premium subscription service gives you:

          • Moments wall (Basically pictures it takes of the baby that you can access on your own 'wall' for up to 30 days on a rolling basis. For me it's not really needed as the baby is only in the bed when it's dark, so it's a black and white photo. The night vision on the Cubo is really good though. Kind of cute and you do get some funny ones but not something I would pay for).
          • Sleep tracking and analytics (A couple of hours after the baby wakes up every day Cubo processes a sleep analytics summary for the night before. Basically shows you how long the baby slept for, awake times in the night, etc. We do use this one currently but I'm not sure if it's something I could really pay for once the free trial is up).
          • 18 hour playback and event tagging (We use this one sometimes).
          • Alert Video (Cubo without the subscription service gives alerts for rollover, cry detection, etc; I think the alert video aspect is the premium feature that links each alert to a short video clip. We use this one sometimes. Without the video I think it does a photo capture of the event anyway).

So for me personally the premium features are a nice to have and worth activating for the 1 year free trial, but at this stage I don't think I'll want to fork out $13/month once the free trial runs out and likely wouldn't be extending the premium service. But I would of course continue to use the standard features.

Handy hint, don't activate premium until you are well up and running and using Cubo daily so you don't start the 1 year free trial counter before you'll actually be using it.

@legs: Thanks for the detailed reply :)

  • Thanks. Works out $384 with discount. got one.

    • Works out less than $300 on Amazon, am I missing something? Search the past deals and they are have been around $280 quite often.

      • That sounds like the wall mount version. I was talking about the "3stand" one. I decided to buy direct from their site as you couldn't claim the $15 voucher through Amazon.

        • I see! Thanks for the clarification!

Got mine from Amazon, stopped working after a year. Contacted Cubo directly for warranty or repair options - was told they would not cover it since it's been just over a year and instead offered I get a refurbished unit at a discounted price OR return ship my unit to them at own cost to Korea for repairs (chargeable for repairs too).

I went back to Amazon and got a full refund instead so buyers beware, with free returns no less.

  • Am I missing something, says it's 429 (discounted from 499)?

    • Looks like they've increased the price from the original discount by $20-30.
