  • How does this compare against the Logitech Brio? Windows Hello support?

      • +33

In the same way that nothing stops you from keeping your snarky comments to yourself?
FYI I had (obviously) googled this myself and couldn't find any information - was just wondering if anyone here might have the product and be able to provide further info. Not once did I assume that the OP was obliged to provide every detail.. Sheesh.

        • +10

Asking to try and be helpful - what did you search in Google? If I search “razer kiyo pro windows hello”, the first result gives me the answer.

Edit: and the second result for that search is an article comparing it to Logitech Brio

          • +1

@abcdefg5: I'd just been looking at reviews - none of which seemed to mention this. But you're right - it does appear early if I search specifically for those terms. Cheers.

            • +7

@[Deactivated]: Ah right! Just asking cause I find it interesting how people use Google / hope to help you w searches in the future. No snark intended :)

        • +8

Real user experiences from here are better than google reviews, ignore @patty OP

          • -4

@dbmitch: Real user experiences here are very mixed and at times are very skewed towards lowest cost above all other factors.

            • +3

@g1: Surprisingly, this isn't the case… If you look at deals with more expensive products, you won't just find a bunch of comments saying, "This is too expensive, why would anyone buy this", instead, you'll actually find people who genuinely are interested in the product, as if you're looking at a forum on some other site.

              • @Zackeroo: Reading comprehension in some cases is bad as well.

To highlight the point, key words and phrases I’ve used so far:
                1) very mixed
                2) at times
                3) in some cases

      • +4

The comments section is available for all users to reply, OP isn’t the only one allowed to answer product related queries.

        • For all users to view as well, which means that others with the same question won't have to google it either. Overall, asking questions in the comments is pretty helpful.

        • Didn’t consider that angle but very fair point. Sometimes just comes across as demanding somehow. See it on plenty of other items and a basic Google often answers the question. Asking for a review/experiences from current owners is completely different and very helpful imo.

      Here we go mr. Monkey

      https://www.streamtechreviews.com/blog/razervslogitechwebcam…

Also please note that Windows hello security system works with 1080p, so as long as the camera support that your good.

    • Brio is better because it is 4K, but do you want people to see your fine details on your face? If yes, get Brio, if not , get this .

      • +2

The way Brio does 4K is a bit hit and miss though, this is honestly a great looking 1080p camera.

The other value competitor is the Logitech Streamcam, but I think it's got a fixed cable? Colour correction requirements for the Logitech aside, I'd probably take whichever's cheapest.

      • +2

4K isn’t automatically better than 1080P. Depends on the bitrate, the quality of the lens, the processing chips in the camera.

You can get high quality 1080p footage that when increased in size to 4K by your playback software is higher quality than a native 4K recording from a worse camera.

Easiest example is watching a blu ray (1080p) full screen on a 4K screen the quality will be way better than anything recorded off your 4K dashcam.

      • 4k is useless for a video call. This is better.

    • +4

I've just tried to enable it (Windows Hello) and I'm getting "We couldn't find a camera compatible with Windows Hello Face". I don't think it has the required depth sensor(s)

  • +1

    FYI has been cheaper before.
This gets good reviews though if you need a webcam

  • +1

Brio has been $212 lowest ever, stream cam is around $138. At this price, it’s worth. IMO.

I would never pay $250 for this cam though, given brio is not very far - $158 is a win win, unless you want to spend another $90-100 on brio and need windows hello.

Copy paste from the link above:

The Logitech Brio and Kiyo Pro are the frontrunners of this comparison. Which webcam is best for you is based on which attributes you find most important in regards to sharpness, colors, and dynamic range.

I am going to be sticking with the Logitech Brio as my main webcam. It has the sharpest image as it can do 4K. Its colors fall behind the Kiyo Pro at its highest resolution, but it looks more natural than it when dropped down to 1080p 30 FPS at YUY2. The Brio ties the Kiyo Pro in regards to dynamic range as well.

  • +3

    Lowest $138

  • -4

Sorry but without googling. What is the benefit of this over the $50 webcam?

    • +10

Allow me to put in the same amount of effort: it's notably better.

      • Indeed, If comparing this to a $50 webcam, I don't think OP Was much inclined to buy anyway.

    • +5

It does a better job at being a webcam.

    • +3

(Same amount of effort) - Better

  • +4

There is a hidden cost: The dignity of having a Razer webcam

  • What's a professional Webcam!

  • -1

No official mac support, no deal!

  • I've been watching this for the last month or so. Was recently selling out of UK for under $140, and basically the same direct from Razer and then went back up to normal prices. Kicking myself for not doing it at the time, but I value local warranty and support.

I saw this one on Amazon last night and I am tempted again.

    • +1

      Lol, go for it mate.

I’ve been holding off for Brio, it came down to $212 or so, then I thought of StreamCam which is close to this price. However, after checking the reviews (plus streamcam has usb c connection), I pulled the trigger today.

      • Brio is also USB-C.

        • Yeah

  • +1

They made it look like a big lens, but it's just a small piece of glass in the centre.

There's no technical reason to make it this big other than being deceptive. :D

    • +1

      Size matters 🤣

  • +4

This review made me cancel the order … Do not buy if you plan to use in apps like Zoom or Teams. All of the features like FOV and HDR have to be configure in the Razer software. Productivity apps do not see the customizations from that software. So you are forced to the ultrawide and SDR output from the camera. Not good.

    • Which review?

      • On Amazon. 270x "helpful" votes so hopefully not a random comment

    • +2

Are there webcams that integrate with e.g. Teams or Zoom so that settings are configurable in-app? I haven't heard of this before, and it looks like the Logitech Brio that many are comparing this to doesn't integrate either.

      • Same, never heard of any

      • Good question. I can't find much on it

    • This is flat out not true.

I use the Kiyo Pro in Teams and Skype with FOV and HDR set in the Razer software. The only reason I got the Kiyo is because of its handling of high contrast conditions, and it does and excelllent job of it - in Skype, Teams and OBS (from memory, it also works fine with Zoom).

      • Are you sure your settings all remain in Teams, skype, etc? Every review says it doesn't. Here is another one. https://insider.razer.com/index.php?threads/kiyo-pro-do-not-…

"My basic problem is the major features are only available in Synapse. HDR and adjustable FOV. These features are why I bought the camera. Zoom business or enterprise (account through work) just sees it like any other webcam. So no mater what I set in Synapse it wont matter."

        • +1

Just re-checked in Skype - it definitely honours the Razer FOV. Which is consistent with how I have been using it for about six months or so. And HDR absolutely works consistently - I'd know if this was a problem. Also re-confirmed in OBS.

I will say there isn't that much difference between narrow and wide FOV - might be useful at a large conference table, but I've got mine set at narrow and my head and shoulders fill less than 1/3 of the view window at about 1.5m.

Also - it's a "well, sort of" with both Skype and Teams. Both MS programs believe they know more than you do, so they'll do a bit of arbitrary window cropping, but you can clear see the FOV change after changing settings in Synapse. OBS does respect your preferred settings.

There is a small trick to getting it stick. You need to disable the camera in all other applications (e.g. deactivate in OBS, no camera view active in Skype or teams), start Synapse, enable preview, make changes in settings, and then disable preview. You can then exist synapse and use the other app with the new settings.

Got this from Wireless1 and had problem with focusing, then contacted Razer and was told they will only replace products from authorised retailers in Australia.

Wireless1 was good to provide me with a refund due to the problem Razer refused to fix.

This Amazon one will be in the same boat, no Razer replacement support and if firmware does not update, your only option is to refund it. (Which is a hassle if it is imported product).

Unless a local authorised Razer reseller have it on sale, I wouldn’t buy it.

Btw, if you look up the forums, this cam has focus hunting issue even with the latest firmware.

Not worth the money to be honest.

    • Weird i got a keyboard replacement from razer after buying it from amazon and sending them the invoice as proof of purchase

      • Amazon AU?

        • Can't remember if it was AU or US. But only had it for 4 months before problems started

      • I had a bit of debate after they initially was going to replace it and then decided against it.

I guess if it is Amazon AU Razer store then it is ok or else they might reject. TBH, they made this so complicated. That’s why I ended up getting a Logitech instead.

    • I got two of them, one they returned to fix, another they didn't with the exact same reason as you. No real bigger, I turned auto focus off and in some ways it's a better view without focus jumping.

    • The seller is always responsible to take care of your problems with their products. I know it's easy going to the manufacturer sometimes as you cut out the middle man, but the seller has legal responsibility, not the manufacturer.

  • What’s the best camera for the Xbox series X? I was looking at the streamcam from Logitech but it uses usbc so I would need an adapter if it even works. Plus after googling it I can’t really find any info on it working

  • At this point why don't you just hook up an old smartphone to your pc? Or even do it over wifi?

  • I bought this webcam last year. Compared to other webcams I've used, it can work surprisingly well in low light situations and in poor lighting conditions (e.g. window behind you). The HDR function is rather limited though (it only seems to work within a narrow exposure range) and for the price, 4K would have been nice.

I found it much more responsive than using my old phone (LGV30+) with the Iriun webcam app (less latency and less compression artifacts, but my phone offered better clarity and more natural colors).

  • +1

I got one last year from Amazon when it was $219. Mine came with firmware version 1.0 and is currently stuck on it. When I run the firmware updater it says contact support. I had a search around on some forums and turns out a lot of the 1.0's were getting bricked on firmware update so they are now forcing you to send them back in for RMA (might be why these are so cheap). They send you a shipping label by email but you have to send it back to Singapore by Fedex and they give you a time limit to send it back, I think it's about 14 days from when you submit your RMA. Anyways CBF stuffing around going through that so I've decided to live with it for now.

So far there are known auto focus problems, I've set manual focus and that works fine considering I'm always in the same spot when I use it. I have really annoying lighting issues specially when you have a light source coming from the side (like the window to my right in my case), it makes me look really dark to the point I have to turn on the light to try to even it out. I never had this issue with Logitech c922.

Regarding the 1080p 60fps, it looks good if the software you are using supports it. But most things I use it for like Google Hangout and Microsoft Teams don't support it. Also no Razer synapse software for Mac. It still works for Mac though it's plug and play you just don't have any way to tweak the settings without third party software. Anyways for $156.21 it's still a decent deal.

    • Same experience as you, but one thing worth trying - spin up a vm (what's that even called on Mac now?), and do the settings. It gets stored in hardware, so will retain that when you go back to the Mac.

    • I had this problem and resolved it by running the firmware updater on Windows as admin (right click, run as admin). Not sure how to address this if you don't have a windows box.

The firmware updates make the AF dramatically better (doesn't entirely fix it, but most of the random seeking disappears).

I've got problems with bright light in two locations and deep shadow behind my desk. The Kiyo can't entirely fix it, but the HDR does a dramatically better job than any other webcam I have tried.

I purchased one of these to use for connected learning with MS teams.
Last year I had used Droidcam-X on a spare LG v30 smartphone, and for me the Kiyo Pro will replace its function.
Droidcam with the v30 gave a better looking image but was a PIA to get up and running, particularly if you need to join a meeting in a hurry.

What I like about the Kiyo pro:
I actually like the look and build of the Kiyo pro. It is a bit large, but for me that makes it more obvious to remember to look at it, for times when presenting to camera or in meetings.
Mounting flexibility: easy to mount on top of the monitor with the included stand, which allows tilt and swivel. When needed, can be easily removed and put on any tripod, stand, or boom arm compatible with a camera screw mount, and can be connected with another length cable if needed (e.g. if you only have usb-c ports. I havent tried it but I am guessing it just needs a decent usb-c cable).
USB-C port and braided cable is nice to have.
Camera chip is sensitive in low light, seems to allow for a wider dynamic range than other webcams I have tried.
Easier to use with chromebooks and quicker to get going quickly in windows and linux when required. (I could not get Droidcam working on my Chromebook and did not have enough time to get it set up on Ubuntu)
Having a privacy cover is ok.
I think the mic is ok but I use a separate USB mic in my setup.

What I dont like about the Kiyo Pro:
Basically Razer. I have not enjoyed the Razer experience - they have been difficult in the past to deal with online, and having to use the Synapse app just to set the basics on the camera hurts my brain.
Autofocus does hunt every now and again which may annoy some. AF can be manually set in synapse but this only works in Windows, and I could not work out how to make that setting stick.
Privacy cover is a bit cheap and nasty, it may muffle the mic mechanically but there is no mic/mute switch.

TL;DR Droidcam with a reasonable smartphone camera is the best image quality but a decent USB webcam is simpler and works more universally.

Thanks for the review mate :)

    • +1

Thanks for the review. I'm in a similar boat, I use a GoPro Hero 8 Black for my webcam, but it requires special software (from GoPro) to make it work and that software is pretty unreliable so it takes a few minutes and often a restart of the software or the computer to get it going every time. But it is hard to spend $100+ on a webcam that isn't going to look as good.
