Toshiba 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD $99 or 3 X 1TB HDD for $250! Retravision

360

Hi Everybody,

In today’s Herald Sun (20 APR)Is an advertisement for a Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 Bus-powered external hard drive for $99 from Retravision.

I'm not sure if this is Australia wide or not but it sounds like a good deal!

Photo from the newspaper to follow.

—NEW INFO—- 15:00 EST - 20 APR 12.

I've uploaded my receipt for you guys to price match.

The nice Retravision salesperson informed me that the warehouse had 600 hard-drives in stock.

As noted by RedHotChilli - If you check out page 29 of today's Herald Sun newspaper (VIC) You can get another $50 off, if you buy more than $300 worth of stuff.

The coupon can be obtained from the Retravision website as well. You can do this by registering as a VIP member, then printing the coupon out.

I bought a cheap USB stick, to bring the total to over $300. You could ask your Retravision salesperson to change the price to $100 each ($300 total) To obtain the $50 discount but, that may be against OzBargain cheapskate policy.

If you don't need 3 hard drives OzBargainers, you could get together with two fellow OzBaargainers, buy one hard drive each then split the discount!

Now OzBargaingers can be both friendly and frugal at the same time!

  • Hi Everybody,

I've just confirmed that the hardrive modle is hdtb110k3b.

If you buy 3 you get an extra $50 off- see page 29 of Herald Sun for $50 voucher - this would make then 250/3 $83.33 each

    • That makes this deal even better!

    • Can you upload a photo of the voucher/ad for us? Would be great!

    • I was under the impression that the voucher was valid for electrical appliances only - has someone successfully redeemed voucher for 3 Hard Drives ?

wonder if its the same in syd

    Retravision OsbPark, Perth

Rang them regarding the product and the answer was that they don't stock HDD capacity more than 400GB.

    • vote for Retravision

Did you have to crank up your phone and use an operator to connect you to them as well.

When I've previously seen these local Retravision $99 ads, I've found that Kambos Retravision in Malaga would match them, they used to carry a lot of this sort of stock so they may be worth a call

    • good price, but too bad no perth

Weren't Retravision the biggest retailer of electrical appliances…not the retailer of the biggest electrical appliances.

I wonder if they have anything bigger than a 32" TV?

  • +1

Does anybody have a copy of the hard drive advert from paper or printout with the price. They don't have a price listed on the web site. As I want to go to my local Officeworks and see if I can get a price match.

Does anyone actually know which Retravision in VIC actually does sell this? Most stores don't even stock them.

    • Hi Tatasauce,

My store didn't have any stock either. The salesperson was more than happy to order them for me though, from the warehouse. Try giving the salesperson the hard-drive part-number or take in my print-out of the receipt.

      • Cheers Bob81, will give that a go!

      • Hi Bob81, thanks for the post. If you don't need all three, is it possible that you can sell one for me? I'm willing to pay the postage. Thanks.

  • good find!…. going off to office works now

    • Did you manage to get it at officeworks?

      • +2

Don't know about the op, but since they had no drives in the local Retrovision I went along the road to the Officeworks and with the advert from the paper got their last drive for $94.05

        Class that as a result.

Edit: Just to note if you are plugging this into a USB2 socket, it can be touchy and you may have to use a motherboard socket to get it to run up properly.

        • I thought all USB 3.0's were backwards compatible? This is a pain in the pass if this is true!

        • They ARE backwards compatible, just they can be picky about precise adherence to standards, since they push things a bit harder.

Just to confirm, I've got it plugged into the motherboard now, rather than a powered hub, and its working fine.

i love how the OP layby'd

    • And used a coupon.

    • also love how the sales persons writes "Rob thanks you"…..

  • anyone know if this is available around Brisbane anywhere? Just called my local retravision in Redcliffe/Margate and they don't stock the Toshiba

  • Not available in Retravisions in Brisbane - they don't stock the item and have never heard of this deal.

    Victoria only ?

    • I've was told that Retravision was split up into 3 separate zones. Southern, northern and western.

Perhaps this is a southern only deal?

Could somebody from TAS or S.A confirm please? I'll then update the title.

  • anyone know if this is anywhere in Sydney?

    • I called Retra at Rozelle. Unfortunately they had no stocks left. I can confirm that they were selling for $99. Luckily, I managed to get it price matched at OfficeWorks Hornsby using the newspaper ad image and got their last one. Good Luck with your local OW.

    • Just rang officeworks Mona Vale. Sales person said they had a few left on the shelf. Will be going over this morning to pick one up. Hopefully they will pricematch which will bring price down to $94.05.

  • Wow. 1tb 3.0 for $99 is cheap!

  • I'm really just after 1 unit only. Anyone wants to share the deal? I'll buy one off you for $85? Please message me if interested. I'm in Victoria.

    • Count me in! In melbourne and looking to buy just 1 unit.

    • After 1 too in Melb, but too much effort! Just go to OW and get it for $95. Is $10 worth all this trouble? Did I really just ask that question on OzBargain?

      • Why is it too much effort? Like having to schedule a meetup with the other 2?

        • Pretty much, Melbourne is a pretty big place. One could be from Whittlesea, one from Oakleigh and one from Sunshine.

    • Im in Vic, love to share the deal with ya! Have messaged ya.

  • can some1 with a usb 3.0 port verify the read/write speeds

  • Anyone know what drive is inside?
Need to know on board interface and thickness.

  • To those wondering about Sydney - I got the last box from Bondi 2 hours ago. Price matched no problemo.

  • I brought the ad to OW and they price matched without ringing for stock.

  • OW didn't pricematch for me

    • What state? Did you bring in the ad?

    • 2 left @ carlton nsw OW.

  • No problem pricematching this morning at Officeworks Mona Vale Sydney with printout of advert. Picked up two with pricematch. 1 on shelf when I left at 9.30am. Saved me having to travel the extra 30km or so to my nearest Retravision.

  • The two stores I've called closest to me are all sold out, however they are getting more stock in around Wednesday next week (Clayton store)… Spoke to a gentlemen called Jim who was very helpful and after a deposit via CC over the phone will now be putting one aside for me and giving me a call when it comes in mid next week for me to collect. Price will be unchanged…

    • With 20,000 files, unless that file was rather large, transferring lots of smaller files is significantly less efficient than one larger files which is more sequential in writing and provides better throughput…

Hopefully someone here can post some sequential access times using crystaldiskmark

  • I've got it plugged into my USB 3.0 port and this is all I'm getting :\
    http://tinypic.com/r/34po0p1/5

    • I've got it plugged into a USB 2.0 port and I'm getting faster transfers than that. Suggest your machine is …….

      Try a different port.

    • Its because you are transferring 24,000+ files…

If you were transferring larger files that were like 5GB each it would transfer faster

      • Oh ok, wasn't sure it working liked that, I'll try with some larger files, thanks.

        • Yeh try with some large files and let us know how you go ;)

  • I just got back from Office works and they priced matched it and also gave me their price guarantee (another $4.95 off), so it came to $94.05 :) I don't know how to load up a photo of the receipt, but try that :) :)

  • Can anyone confirm that this apply to the stores in WA? cheers

    • I was at the Office Works store on Scarborough bch rd yesterday. They only had one on the shelf, so not sure if they are out of stock or have more in the back.

  • Hey guys… How can we buy these online?

Edit: Going to go try price beat at OW… I will post up the receipt for everyone if it works ;)

  • called them and they said they are now limited to 1 per person and can be pre ordered
Asked about 50 voucher and they said it is for regular priced items nd this is discounted from $129 and is below cost
    load of ****

    • Got that from the Clayton Retravision store as well. He said the HDD was priced at $199 and the store is losing $20+ bucks for each unit they sell at $99. However the store owner is still taking in orders although they are all sold out because they want to honour the advertisment. But really, $199?? The advertisement stated $129.

      • Did you guys show them the Retravision receipt in the OP???

I think if they saw that another store honoured the $50 off then they should too…

        • They said they were honouring it until they ran out of stock. Don't know whether that's true. Oh and they were imposing a limit of 1 per customer too, so…

Sorry to dampen every's bubbles, but I bought $90 1tb WD drives from the states in person when I was over there in 2010 from Best Buy. It's so sad to see Australia catching up now..

    • Well, it's a sad fact that we have to accept. Almost everything costs more in Australia :(
