Often too bright, sibilant, and the leather pads are too uncomfortable (can sometimes come with velour).

No idea how this became a regular recommendation again, but you're probably going to get more enjoyment out of the Koss KSC75, Koss KPH30i, for an open back at or below this price.

If you want to maximise sound quality for money, IEMs like the Moondrop Aria is good not too far above this price point when on sale, and then at the price there's the KZ ZEX Pro, Tin T2 Plus (on sale).

For an open back genuinely worth the money after the Koss options, save up for an AKG K612 Pro or a HIFIMAN HE400SE at around $200 before discounts & cashbacks, or consider the Sennheiser HD6XX from Drop if it gets near to $250 again.

If you still really want this headphone, you should be able to get it from AliE for about $35 - after coupons and cashbacks - during a sale (but you definitely shouldn't).

The pads are unusable with glasses. Super stiff and it'd either dislodge your glasses or push the glass frame against your head until you have an indent in your skin :) May have been an old version though, my SR850 came with a plasticky leather? pad but the image now shows something more like velour.

Can't even compare to my ATH AD900X but understandably, they're in completely different price brackets.

      • Thanks. I hadn't thought about my glasses. Very helpful

        • the pair i got had velour pads and is very, very comfy even with glasses!

    Samsung child company?

  • They are clones of the AKG 240s which have been made for decades and are still super popular. I'll alway recommend these for entry level headphones. just be aware that if you are treble sensitive, these will hard to listen to, but if you can use an EQ, then you are gold!

  • Are these the same as this: Superlux HD 681

      From rtings:
The Superlux HD 681 are better for neutral sound than the Samson SR850. They have a similar semi-open design, but the Superlux have a much more neutral sound profile, which some may prefer. They're also much more comfortable and breathable. However, the Samson have a significantly better build quality.
