best way to dispose meh headphone

Seems a bit steep for pair of sony headphones….anyone have this to confirm if they are decent for the money?

    • +1

They're not worth it. Get Arctis 7 if on a budget.

      • Arctis 7 appear to be double or more RRP vs this.

You get what you pay for. Pulse 3D are quite poor value aside from just being "cheap". Audio is okay with poor quality mic complaints by most people. Comfort and quality not being high points at all.

Also, 3D Audio works on ANY headphones. "Pulse 3D" is just marketing.

          • +2

@Hybroid: I think even at the $99 price point it's not really amazing value for money.

My complaints after about 1 year of use:

            -Average sound quality.
EQ adjustment helps but still Average.

            -Average mic quality.
Asking friends, they all think other people's cheaper headsets perform better.

            -Average built quality.

-Comfort isn't that bad actually but not perfect by any means.

I'd only recommend it if you can get it for like 50% off RRP.

            • +1

@Tamagotchi Breeder: You think that they only stack up against $50 headphones? I strongly disagree - comparing to several pairs of cheaper headphones my son has bought (and broken) over the last few years, these are streets ahead in terms of audio, build and comfort.

The mic not be great but it is in comparison to budget headphones.

              • +1

                @p1owz0r: 50% off RRP is ~$79.
The overall package is only "worth it" at about that price point IMHO.

Besides all the previosily mentioend cons…. I didn't even mention the fact that it needs a dongle in 2022. Why?

Or the fact that I notice lag in audio (that can't be adjusted on the ps5) it's not a huge deal as I seem to notice audio lag more than others (e.g. my wife doesnt notice it).

Just my 2c, take it or leave it. But I wouldn't buy them again.

                • @Tamagotchi Breeder: Agree the dongle is annoying and just a bit weird given they are both Sony products.

But still disagree on quality of sound, build and comfort. Each to their own, as you say.

          • @Hybroid: Your original post suggested those as an alternative for those on a budget. $100 vs ~$300 is significantly different in value terms.

          • @Hybroid: Here’s an article that explains PS5 3D audio and this headsets response to it in comparison to virtual surround sound,

              @p1owz0r: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125009600974
              I'd personally get these @ $79.

I haven't used these specifically but I've previously owned other cheap (on sale) Sennheisers that sound better, mic is better, no lag, more comfortable, I could go on…

Yes, whilst not wireless, I personally consider it a non issue due to the fact the ps4/5 controller has a 3.5mm port on it anyway.
And one less device to charge.

Unless I am playing a mulyiplayer game, that needs mic, I always ditch my sony pulse headset in favour of one of my better quality wired headset (if they had mics I would ditch the Sony pulse altogether).

Each to their own but the pulse is my least favourite headset, definitely a case of buyers remorse.

      • I had the arctis pro's and will never buy another steelseries headphone again. They're way overpriced for the quality.

Seeing how this Amazon Prime deal was popular for $116.10

This is $99 if you buy the newly released Horizon game

    • +6

I have these and they are great value for money. No Compression on your the head, and the audio is great. If you aren't looking to spend $300 on a headset there isn't a headset in this price point or even close to this price point that is better on the PS5

      • +4

YMMV it constantly hurt my ear after 30 mins use, not a fan

        • +3

No issues with comfort from my perspective, I find them very comfortable for long sessions. Of course that's a completely personal thing and as you say, YMMV.

        • +1

they do hurt my ears too unfortunately.

        • +1

Got these headphones, after 30 mins it getting really uncomfortable. I find any over-ear headphone does that.

          • @kml22: The xm3 from Sony doesn't have such issue for me, I can wear it for at least 2-3 hours, only this one hurts me.

    • +2

I have these headphones and I really rate the sound quality for the price. Don't forget Sony have built from the ground up to take advantage of 3D audio and it works really well.

The build quality isn't amazing - it's serviceable, and to be fair probably in line with what you would get if you bought dedicated headphones (e.g. non-gaming no mic) at the same price.

Overall, I'd totally recommend them for PS5 gaming and call them great value at this price.

More PS5 headphones than PS5 in this world

  • Could I use my Bose NC700 with the PS5 or do I need a Bluetooth adaptor ? I can pair them to my 77C1 OLED but the volume just isn't enough

    • +2

The PS5 doesn't work with bluetooth headphones natively, so you'd need a BT adaptor. Latency might also be an issue with BT headphones, but YMMV, some people are more sensitive to the lag than others.

  • Why not get a set of koss ksc75 headphones and plug them into the controller? The sound quality would be so much better in my opinion. And for probably less than $60 or $70.

    • Because some people prefer wireless…?

      • It's still wireless. Just connected to the controller. :)

  • +1

Bought these thinking they'd make me better at fortnite. They didn't.

Nice headphones tho, but they can be quite uncomfortable on longer use and I still have to take them off to figure out what button to press on the side.

    • +2

Oh the buttons are a nightmare - you're right about that for sure. The mute mic one is the only one i get right every time.

Love the handle by the way, I still remember listening to that incident on the radio!

  • yeah for those of us that want the special edition of horizon Forbidden west its not included in this deal.

  • Can you pair two sets of headphones to one PS5?

    • +1

do you have 2 usb ports? if so then yes.

  • +1

I use these daily, mostly for work meetings. I think they're fine for the price.

  • -1

You have to purchase the PS5 version of Horizon to get the headset for $99. It doesn't work for the PS4 version.

    • +1

Hey mate, I just checked on JB’s website and the PS4 version of Horizon qualifies for the $99 Sony headset

      • My bad. I tried it before you posted this deal and it wasn't working then.

  • Harvey Norman have this same deal, only they have jacked up the price of the game by $10 so they are now cheaper than jb (ps5 version plus has set is $198)
