Not a bad price for this Oris. 40% off is quite good as it's hard to haggle anything pass 30% off in dealers.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Sunset 01 733 7707 4356-07 5 20 45. Finished in a full Multi-piece Bronze case and a two-tone stainless steel bracelet. The Oris Divers features a 40mm case.

Oris dives off into the past and returns with the Oris Divers Sixty-Five. The new model is a retro version of an iconic Oris diving watch that was launched 50 years ago. The new Oris Divers Sixty-Five has the retro look of the 1960s original and combines it with modern 21st century watch technology. The case is made of stainless steel. The vintage-inspired, highly curved glass is scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, which has an anti-reflective coating on the inside to reduce glare and improve readability underwater.

The watch is water-resistant to 10 bar (100 meters), has a unidirectional rotating bezel and hands and indexes with SuperLumiNova®. Inside the timepiece operates the precise Oris 733 automatic movement with 38-hour power reserve and a date display. A matching tone stainless steel bracelet completes the diver's watch.

What we like: The classic look of the Sixty-Five series is reason enough but then the gradient colour of the dial and the black bezel combine perfectly with the matching stainless steel bracelet to really complete the look. The Sunset is a classic collectors piece.

Never heard of Oris. Will this have clout with hedgefund analysts eyeing my watch when I have dinner at Nobu?

    • +1

Most probably cause they wouldn’t know the brand either and will like to figure out and google it

    • +15

Good Swiss brand, they make a lot of nice limited editions and are not too over the top with pricing

    • +15

Oris is a well recognised brand amongst watch enthusiasts

    • +3

Well …. Bill Gates wears the Casio Duro ($100 watch), maybe wear one of those to Nobu and see where the conversation goes …

      https://superwatchman.com/bill-gates-casio-watch/

some people buy watches for themselves, some buy watches to impress others,

      • +3

Duro $100?!? $79 at the moment, was down to <$60 recently

        • +1

not the black one, blue one was $60, Bill gates wears the black one and no current deals on the black one, was $70 in 2021.

      • +8

The ultra rich cosplay as poor to avoid getting eaten. Plus to Bill Gates a Casio and a Patek are both equally trivial purchases.

        • +7

Bill Gates could have bought Casio - the company.

          • +2

@Krukked: He can buy patek company too. So his point remains valid.

        • Well, some but not all of them do. Those who do probably don't have interest in watches or only wear expensive watches in special occasions.

  • +6

Nope, $3,300 watches are for peasants.

  • -2

    bought 10 thanks

  • -7

Never heard of Oris either but this watch is gaudy.

What is it? A serious divers watch or a dress watch for pimps?

    • +2

sorry man you can't call it gaudy - this is beauty.

    • ORis is a decent brand but I agree this is an uggo example.

  • -2

This deal is what I call great timing, bought 10. 🤣

  • -4

Until recently watch deals on OzB were around the $200 to $400 point.
Why are we now regularly seeing votes for $2k watches?
Has this site been taken over by hedge fund managers?
Or just a bunch of bankers?

    • +1

Putting our ozb savings to use

    • +3

Or just a bunch of w**kers

      FTFY

      • And did you vote for their friends in the Labor and Liberal Party so that they could rule the country?

And by that I mean transfer your money to themselves.

        • +2

          Holy sh*t! Diji1!

It feels like forever since I've seen you and one of your classic, apropos-of-nothing Liberal/Labour references when a bunch of people are discussing something completely benign and apolitical like watches.

Welcome back, you political-tourettes-syndrome-afflicted old sod, you.
Did they finally return you your computer access privileges at the psychiatric care institution they're keeping you at?

      • Yes, just as I thought, a bunch of w**kers

    • +1

expensive watches feature based on feedback from politicians making wish lists so lobyists know what to buy them.

might also be supply chain issues, cheaper watches might be harder to get , currently not much of a need to discount samurai down to $329 if you have low stock, same with Casio Duro in black, had been as cheap as $60, not at the momement, blue is cheap but black not much of a discount.

    • +2

In a world where everything is disposable some of us appreciate quality that can be passed down to the next generation. Or maybe more of us are just getting old.

      • +1

I have some omega seamasters to hand down to the next generation and to wear to interviews, besides the case the next generation can replace the mechanism, it's why I tend to buy quartz or solar watches now. Quartz are dirt cheap to repair and it's all about the case and face if you are into appearances. Omega used to have a quartz seamaster, when I took it in for a new battery for $120 they replaced the battery and put in a new mechanism (wasn't broken so not sure why I did it ?), vs $800 for the service of my seamaster auto …. I think the next generation in my household is more likey to pay for a new quartz movement than a service for an auto …. and the case and face are all good.

I think when you get old you stop trying too impress people, unless opposite gender and they are attractive.

New auto mechanism or service for a samurai or turtle in 20 years time …… I think my $400 auto would be more throw away due to cost to repair in 20 years than my quartz to repair.

        • +4

I wouldn't recommend trying to impress people with a watch. 99% of people don't know or appreciate watches. In my experience the only people who have commented on my watches are into watches themselves and generally have similar types of watches. Only do it for you and if watches don't interest you then save your money or buy a smart watch.

I'd personally rather be handed down a quality watch that I saw my parent wore regularly rather than a safe queen that was hardly worn but we're all different and unfortunately my dad isn't interested in watches.

The next generation may well throw it in a cupboard and not care about it but at least it helps me justify buying and wearing things I enjoy now.

          • @thestig: They will say what the hell is this, no siri or twitter notifications

        • GS, if you paid $800 for a Swiss watch overhaul (on a regular basis), you most certainly don't have the right contacts

          • +1

@ZilogX: Did you forget to link "the right contacts" ? If you know of good cheap servicing then please share !

            • @Nom: No way am I going to have my Swiss watchmaker who charges me cough per hour barter cash scratch my back I'll scratch your wife's… clogged up with bloody Ozbargainers down the street demandering they get the best price on their watch service!

All I meant is the going price doesn't have to be that high, not by any means. Not even walk in. Even ringing around for an hour will get you a much better price than that without having to drive all over town or ship your watch interstate, either

    • +5

They must have forgotten the rule about you can't post anything where it costs above $400.

I thought OzBargain was about getting a good deal on something. Not about buying the cheapest shit thing available regardless of whether it was good or whether it suited your style or wants. Not saying this is a good deal, but there's different price points for everything man.

    • +2

There are many watch enthusiasts on OzB who would love this Oris. This is a significant saving, just because you don't like the rrp doesn't mean its not a good deal.

    • +2

Swiss Automatic Watches are more expensive than Japanese Auto watches, not always better, just more expensive. $2K is a good deal for an Oris, to non-watch people this might seem like a lot but for people that are enthusiasts in an area this is normal. I never take a photo I cant use my iphone for but there are camera enthusiasts out there spending tens of thousands on camera gear. I've no interest in drones, horses or vintage motorbikes but there are regular people out there spending tens of thousands on these hobbies. I own a Carbon Fibre S-Works race bike with Zipp Wheels because I am a MAMIL that likes hauling my overweight backside up hills and sitting around in coffee shops. I spent as much on my bike as some people spend on a late model used car. I dont think I go much faster but its my hobby, I like it, i can afford it so I bought it, same with watches.

  • This or Rado Captain Cook?

    • Rado if 2004

    • +3

IMO no contest Rado. More recognisable brand, better movement, better water resistance and has a more unique and distinctive look.

      • Thanks I was thinking the same. Any ideas what a reasonable discount would be from an AD?

        • +1

I haven’t shopped Rado before so not exactly sure what’s achievable

Salera’s are doing >20% on a number of models so I’d be targeting at least that

          https://salera.com.au/collections/rado-captain-cook-collecti…

I’ve heard good things about Shum’s in Chinatown you could try visiting them and seeing what they offer

  • +4

Fantastic price for a fantastic watch!

  • -6

    Thanks bought 65

    • -2

Renumeration for your staff at Australia post ? They probably don't want 2 Gucci watches.

  • Where to get a good discount on Longines ?

    • I bought a longines hydroconquest from joma watch in the states, was a good price compared to dealer.

  • +3

    Base Caliber: Sellita SW200-1

    No Thanks.

    • +1

Whats wrong with the Sellita, or did you expect inhouse at that price point.

      • +1

Nothing wrong with Sellita or ETA movements for that matter, it's just that I have a Frederique Constant that I bought for < $1500 brand new with in-house movement, a couple of Mido divers (ETA2824, 20ATM) for < $800 each, and a Rado D-Star chrono for < $2000 (base calibre Valjoux 7753).

I'm sure this is well made watch (without having seen it in person), and Oris is a good brand. The discount is also ncie. It's just that I wish it had a better movement.

        • +1

"It's just that I wish it had a better movement"

I would like to understand what you mean by this. Do you mean you want in-house or do you want a movement that is more complicated, more power reserve etc? I personally think the SW200 is a perfectly reasonable movement at this price point, for an indepedent brand (especially at the discount pricepoint). Also, I think for the average buyer of this model (vintage look instead of utility), a more serviceable movement makes a lot more sense.

I know Oris has the Calibre 400, that was released recently for the AQUIS, It would make no sense to put that on this watch and blur the differentiation even further between the models.

    • Where did you read that? The page days it has the Oris Caliber 733 movement.

  • +16

Can’t get enough of the ozbargsin bought 10 joke. It’s sooo funny.lmfao can someone else please say it again.Valentine’s Day sorted is another timeless classic.

    • +2

bought a replacement dunny seat for the missus for Valentines day just past - she digs it - soft close lid the clincher

      • +1

        Valentine’s Day sorted

    • Thanks bought 10. 10 years of Valentine’s Days present sorted

    • With a 'Baby Cack Brown' Dial!?

Be careful you don't get a slap in da face! :-P

    • +2

Also, officeworks Price Match for a Car etc

      • +1

Yeah a Tesla post usually brings em out. It’s like those that aren’t really funny but they’ll plagiarise genuine comedians like it’s their material and tell jokes at work. You’re then forced to titter at their lameness.

  • -7

Am I alone in thinking these watches are a waste of money as it doesn't tell you your heart rate or calories etc… basic for a lot of money!

    • jewellery and time keeper in one

    • +2

How does knowing your heart rate effect your life?

      • +2

Every time you miss a deal on OzBargain you can see your heart rate increase when you get angry

    • +1

The calories and heart measurements are hopelessly inaccurate.

Which means the user is getting neurotic over something utterly pointless.

While having their other more important data such as location collected from them so that they lose money because they view marketing.

    • Neither does a diamond ring, but I can see why most women like them still. :)

    • +2

If you can't appreciate a good watch, why are you here? Besides this isn't even an expensive watch.

  • Hopefully the 36mm variant gets discounted soon as well

  • only 100m water-resistance? that's hardly a "diver's watch"

    • It's not even a pool diver's watch, really…

  • expired again annoying how ob doesn't let you report twice!
