  • The COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunoassay intended for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens in nasal swabs from individuals suspected of being infected with COVID-19 within the first 7 days of symptom onset. This test is intended for self-use by persons aged 15 years or above and also for an adult testing another person under 15 years of age. Individuals over 65 years of age should consider to seek assistance in performing the test.
  • Do not use this test as the only guide to manage your illness. Please contact your State or Territory Coronavirus testing services to get a laboratory PCR test if your symptoms are persisting or worsening, or if you are concerned at any time.
  • This test involves taking a sample from deep inside your nose. When doing the test, pay particular attention to the instructions on how to swab your nose. Incorrect swabbing may lead to an inaccurate test result.
  • Negative results may occur if testing is not performed within the first 7 days of symptom onset.
Store as packaged in the sealed pouch between 4–30 ℃.
  • Negative test results do not exclude infection with COVID-19 (so face masks, social distancing and good hygiene practice must be maintained).
  • Positive test results or symptomatic persons require immediate confirmatory testing using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

95.1% sensitivity, 100% specificity

      Yep. Over supply is inevitable.

      • I already got like 8 which I got it for free, doing nothing lol

      • Last I heard 100 million units in storage, and another 100 million on the water being imported.

Always makes me think of The Inbetweeners…

  • $40 for shipped by Amazon

There are about 200k of these RATs sitting in warehouses in SYD as we speak. I was offered $4.5+gst per unit wholesale last week but I think the price will just keep dipping till around $4+gst (or as close to landed cost of 3.5 as possible) per unit. I will wait xD.

    • +1

Wait for what? If people need RATs, they need them now. I needed to be tested to see my grandma. I also have been in high-risk areas so I wanted to periodically test to be safe.

    Hodl…

  • +1

There may be tonnes of these sitting in warehouses (@a1b2c3e4f52002) but the good ones are nowhere to be found. This RAT has a limit of detection of 570TCID50/ml. The good ones can detect at 100-150TCID/ml.

    • +1

I was talking about the exact same one xD But yeah, the good ones are hard to find and nowadays I only use oral or saliva ones anyway lol

      • +1

Just a heads up, I haven't found one person to get a positive on a saliva one (this is on various Facebook groups). Many have had a negative, retested on a nasal one and been positive straight away. I don't think any tests have been fully tested on Omicron variant and from what I've seen the saliva ones don't seem to be effective with it.

    • +2

      What does that even mean

      • +29

I think its tech talk between rat enthusiasts.

      • +4

TCID is the amount of virus required for the test to show positive. This RAT requires 4x-5x as much viral load before it will show a positive result. The very high sensitivity rating becomes irrelevant when the test requires such a high viral load - anyone who is positive but has a bit less of the virus picked up on the swab will result in a false negative. May as well not even test.

        • -1

For me, I will use RATs on Day 7 after being PCR tested for positive to confirm I can stop isolation. Definitely not sensitive enough to check when asymptomatic. The other use case is when you need a quick check before visiting somone vulnerable.

          • +1

@viirgon: If you want to protect someone before visiting them, this isn't the right test. You could be contagious but the high viral load requirement will show negative when the Lyher or v-check will show positive.

so which are the good brands?

    • Is there a list of ones that detect at 100-150?

  • -4

Any RAT seller posts should be removed at this point. Due to the nature that these are ineffective at giving you accurate results. If you have symptoms pcr test. That is the newest info from the fed gov.
