eBay Giftcard Problem and Questions

Hello guys,

Last night i used a $50 Ebay giftcard to partially pay for a purchase from China. (The balance was paid off with a credit card)

A few hours later, the seller said that the payment did not go through.
I tried to pay again with the giftcard, but the balance was zero.

Has anyone encountered this problem before ?
And how do i contact Ebay about this problem ? Do they have an email address or a live chat function ?

And has anyone had any success in getting some kind of refund from Ebay?
It seems like it is pretty hard to get help from Ebay for such problems.

Thank you for all replies.

  • You pay -> eBay -> pays seller.

    Let seller deal with eBay.

  • A few hours later, the seller said that the payment did not go through.

What does ebay show under your Purchase history? If the item is marked as paid, then the issue is with the seller/ebay.

Sounds like they are a new seller, so ebay could be holding payment for a bit or they are a scammer trying to get you to pay again 'outside' of ebay?

  • Wait for a few days, maybe just 24 hrs.

Normally the refund goes back to the your Ebay account .
Try adding a item to your cart and go to checkout to see if the credit is there .

Since they introduced their new payment management system there have been numerous issues with GCs. Happened to me twice with $200+ purchases and it was a nightmare chasing them up with pretty much non-existent customer service.

If you're lucky the funds might be returned in around 3-4 weeks time but if not you might have to lodge a claim via Fair Trading. For me it took over a couple of months and getting Fair Trading involved to finally get the funds back. Since then I've stayed away from eBay GCs just not worth the hassle for mine.

OMG, that is a hassle. I have never experienced any problems with Ebay giftcards until now.
Yup, no more Ebay giftcards for me.
I am glad that you got your money back.

Yeah seems to be a fairly common occurrence but the worst part is the complete lack of customer service to sort something like this out. All you'll get back is some useless copy and paste replies.

Apparently the GC refunds are processed via an automated system that takes anywhere from 7 to 21 days to complete. Hopefully you get the funds returned back to your GC/eBay account within that time. Otherwise my advice would be to lodge an online claim via Fair Trading rather than waste your time with eBay. In that case Fair Trading should be able to sort it out with eBay and you should receive a manual refund via PayPal (might take another 3 weeks or so).
