Which one is best to optimise commenting on OzBargain?

      Threadripper

Grab the Intel Core i9-12900KF. Means more power, more tabs and more comments.

Failing that Intel Xeon Gold or AMD Threadripper. Build a server and automate it.

Never go the KF, always the K, the F= Fail, for the $20 that iGPU can be a lifesaver.. i'm living proof, 980Ti died as the GPU price hike hit and i've had no GPU for like a year cause it's jsut to pricey to get back in… retro gaming for 2021

That's good advice. I have a massive stockpile of spare GPUs though :)

      • But you can't rip into comment threads with it.

        threadripper enters the chat

    • The Core i9 12900k. Obviously.

    • Intel® Celeron® Processor G6900 is best to optimise commenting on OZB.

There is only 1 jv, so 2 cores is already 1 too many.

Shame itx board are so expensive still :(

  • Ryzen CPU should come with free delivery as well but still cheapest.

Wait for Ryzen 7xxx CPUs. Laptop chips 6000 series launching recently & are amazing since they come with improvements in all other meaningful areas as well like ssd, ram, wifi…

    • There's always one. Why wait for 7xxx? Because when that happens you can just wait for 8xxx that'll be around the corner?

      • +1

True that, I have been waiting for past 3-4 years, lol. But the 6000 series laptop feels like it has almost everything top spec. I would be pissed when Nvidia or someone launches a new gpu after I get my hands on one of these

        • This is a deal on desktop CPUs though :)

          • @Clear: Thats why mentioned 7000 in my first comment :)

It is just that I am too broke to buy a good desktop & replace my old laptop together.

      • To be fair, the 7xxx will be a big upgrade, setting the new baseline for years to come. AM5 socket, Zen 4, DDR5, PCIE 5.0.

        • So basically the same level as Intel 12th Gen.

          • @Clear: Certainly, I'm actually brand agnostic and think you've posted a good deal, but I'm speaking for the AMD tragics among us 🙃

            • @Dogsrule: Oh I'm with you there as I got a 5600x rig last year. At least the 6xxx series should help push DDR5 RAM prices down.

              • @Clear: True that. Looking to replace my i7 8700 rig with a 7xxx system pending DDR5 and MB prices.

      • AM5 chipset, DDR5 and PCIE 5 is why.

If you're on B450/B550/X470/X570, your interim move is buying Ryzen 5000 and updating your firmware before you drop the chip in. There's even some official X370 firmware updates now.

Would be prudent to explore that path, even on a PCIE 3 board, as DDR5 still needs time to mature.

  • And how much does the motherboard cost? and how hot does the CPU get up to?

  • Literally spent $449 on amazon today to buy a 12600K I love when this happens!

    • If it hasn't shipped you can still cancel 😉

      • Literally did it as we speak, keen to throw this ITX rig together!

  • Prices seem back to normal :(

    • Discount applies at checkout. Lemme update the post to say it.

  • Given current prices, some of the bundles seem ok,
12600k With MSI z690 if you want potential to overclock

Or a bit less for b660m with WiFi if unlocked power limits are enough (the K or KF CPU is still potentially beneficial vs a 12600 due to the extras E cores)

Prefer a Silicon Mac (ducks and hides under the table)…..

  • These parts perform phenomenally but rather than getting hung up on benchmarks and hype from tech websites and channels it's best upgrade only when your CPU is creating bottlenecks that actually affect your ability to enjoy the games you're playing (if you're using your CPU for heavy workloads that are time critical and make you $ that's a different calculation).

We're in a period where there have been massive CPU performance gains almost every year after Ryzen came along to end that terrible quad core stagnation that lasted from 2011 (Sandy Bridge - which was excellent for its time) to 2017 (Kaby Lake).

Best to buy when you actually need it rather than buy because tech sites are excited, as the next gens (from both Intel and AMD) with decent performance bumps will always be just around the corner these days

Occasionally, when you do feel the need to upgrade it may be worth waiting an extra generation for specific features or if the next gen is literally a few months away (rather than a year). For example, back in early 2010s it was pretty reasonable to wait one extra gen to get native USB 3.0 on your chipset vs terrible slow-ass USB 2.0 or wait for PCIe 3.0 vs PCIe 2.0, which actually did become a bottleneck. However this is way less likely to be an issue nowadays with even original USB 3.0 still fast enough for peripherals and PCIe 4.0 being unlikely to become a bottleneck anytime soon for GPUs let alone PCIe 5.0 etc.
