    NOT YET. HODL!

Op any nice SFF 5070 Ti card deal?

  • -2

Definitely worth considering over a 9070XT at this price… RT, frame gen, neural texture compression are overrated, garbage and probably snake oil respectively but DLSS4 is king (particular in terms of support) despite FSR closing the gap recently.

    • +3

Well… 9070 XT was 20% cheaper just yesterday though. Is DLSS 4 $220 better FSR 4?

    • Dont forget vr isnt as good sadly on an amd still.

      • +2

I'm playing VR on my 9070XT all the time without any issues, what's different?

  • +10

70 series cards at comparatively more than flagship cards of yesteryear. I think I'm going to protest by not upgrading and giving up on gaming entirely once my current card isn't good enough. It's our own fault paying these sort of prices.

    • +1

Agree the state of things is awful. I went 9070XT but not sure if PC gaming will be viable hobby in future, at least cutting edge games.

      • +16

        Why wouldn't it be viable?

The most popular games right now are CS:GO, Fortnite, League, Dota 2, Apex Legends, GTA V, Valorant…etc. all of which can be played at high frame rates on a PC you can put together for $500 worth of used parts (e.g. Ryzen 5600 + GTX 1070, or similar).

FWIW, I still own a GTX 1070 and played Black Myth Wukong last year on 1440p medium settings, and get a consistent smooth gameplay, with average 70+ fps. The game still looked bloody amazing, and I had a blast playing through it.

Obviously I would prefer cheaper GPUs to more expensive GPUs, but the idea that PC gaming is not viable unless you have the latest and best hardware is just elitist gatekeeping. To be honest, this sort of attitude is probably what enables Nvidia and AMD to charge as much as they do for GPUs, as everyone feels they need to buy an RTX 9090 XT Ti Super Ultra (or whatever).

        • +7

because people like whinging about gaming more than actually gaming

        • +1

Sorry my comment was worded poorly. I feel previously you could spend a modest amount on a PC every 5 years or so and get to experience 90-95 percent of the fidelity that the most expensive systems had to offer.

Nowadays you're locked out of that in part due to poor optimisation and skyrocketing game budgets, crazy prices on top end hardware, diminishing graphics returns, and flaccid mid-range options.

Fortunately the best games and gaming experiences usually haven't needed S tier performance, but it was always nice around upgrade time to play something flashy and see how things had progressed. The first Farcry/Doom 3 around 2004 and Crysis a few years later for example.

Absolutely Nvidia/AMD are relying on FOMO, bullshit features, and gimping their mid range products to get prices inflated to where they are now.

          • +1

@Barrbarian56: I disagree on one point. The improvements generation on generation right now are incremental compared to the early 2000s. A 5-year-old PC in the early 2000s would be way shittier for the current games than a 5-year-old GPU now.

          • +3

            @Barrbarian56:

I think you're remembering the "good old days" way too fondly. I specifically recall paying ~$650 for a 3dfx Voodoo 2 graphics card back in the day, which would be ~$1,400 today (adjusted for inflation).

The funny thing was that the Voodoo 2 was probably a "high end card" for around a grand total of just over a year until the Nvidia GeForce 256 was launched, and completely blew it out of the water (we're talking like 2-3x the number of fps). As a dedicated PC gamer of over 30 years, I still remember the days where a new generation of products would genuinely obsolete the previous generation. This hasn't happened in years.

There are so many options for PC gamers today - on FB Marketplace, you can find 1070s for $100 which are great for all of your eSports titles, you can find 3080s for around $500 now, which can still run the latest games at High settings (one or two notches down from "maxed out"). You can hardly tell the difference looking at screenshots.

Nowadays you're locked out of that in part due to poor optimisation and skyrocketing game budgets, crazy prices on top end hardware, diminishing graphics returns, and flaccid mid-range options.

Sorry, but I think this is just misinformed and is driven by this need to max out every setting possible.

In all of the AAA games I've played, you can easily get great performance by choosing the second highest (rather than highest) quality setting, and dialling down the antialiasing.

Fortunately the best games and gaming experiences usually haven't needed S tier performance, but it was always nice around upgrade time to play something flashy and see how things had progressed. The first Farcry/Doom 3 around 2004 and Crysis a few years later for example.

Again, rose-tinted glasses - Crysis ran like trash on even the top-end hardware of its generation, and everyone mocked the poor optimisation of CryEngine 2. It's exactly the same narrative as today.

Those in the know just dialled down the settings and enjoyed the game.

Absolutely Nvidia/AMD are relying on FOMO, bullshit features, and gimping their mid range products to get prices inflated to where they are now.

I agree, but I find this whole space a bit tiring these days. It's just become a whingefest.

People keep getting worked up about GPU prices, but the answer is just to not buy. It's not like there aren't other options - gaming PC with used parts for < $1000, PS5 for ~$600, even previous generation hardware and consoles are fantastic, you can pick up a Switch OLED for like $250 on Marketplace and have years worth of fun.

            • @p1 ama: Thats the point to me. My 8 year old 1070ti was $520 AUD. Now a 5070ti is $1300 for 4x the performance. Thats essentially double for the dollar for almost a decade of development. Thats not good enough for me, but i will probably accept it and move on.

        • I find DLSS making a big difference in fps so I would recommend to get at least a compatible gpu … Even a rtx 2060 would offer good value.

    • Im still sitting on a 3060ti. But honestly its 'good enough'.

      • Same, want to upgrade but nothing has been so tempting I feel the need to spend big bucks. Figure something will drop later in the year that makes sense.

    • You should go one further and not waste your precious time being one of the people on every single higher priced GPU deal who waste their time talking about ye olden days, as if it isn't the exact same conversation, over and over again. Not hating there - I've done it many times.

who are these guys? I have never heard of this company

    • +1

      Palit have been around forever.

      • +1

he must be talking about the seller, i've never heard of them either.

        • Oh fair point.

  • I must resist. I must. I must. I MUST.

  • +21

Nope doesn’t cut it. Waiting on marshmallow to release his special edition $999 5070Ti with 15% AfterPay Day deal.

  • This or wait for Super range?

    • +1

You will pay more for them and get no benefit in games for years. Your call. But Super anticipation may make these go even lower. Until NVidia stops supplying stock.

      • The benefit will be more VRAM.

        • The card will be obselete before the 16GB VRAM ever becomes a problem

  • +1

I wonder if these cards will also melt like the others, while utilising Jensen Frame Generation technology lol

    • +1

If you leave the leather jacket on surely will melt

      • Instructions unclear, I replaced the heatsink with a tiny leather jacket and it melted

Im pretty happy with my 5070ti GamingPro-V1 I got for $1350 last month. Under full load during benchmarks, it stays under 65c and with fans around 1200 - 1300rpm.

Be aware: this “GamingPro-S” model in this deal is different to the Palit GamingPro-V1 and regular GamingPro before that. The GamingPro was the original version with vapor chamber. The revised version (unusually named GamingPro-V1) came out later and no longer had the vapor chamber. Now recently this GamingPro-S variant has come out, but with a smaller cooling solution. The GamingPro and GamingPro-V1 both were 61mm in thickness. While the new GamingPro-S is 49.7mm thick, according to Palit’s website.

It seems each newer revision has more cost-cutting measures.

The physical specifications on this stores website don’t match the Palit official website. https://www.palit.com/palit/vgapro.php?id=5605&lang=en&pn=NE…

Ive been offered a zotac 4070ti super for $950. Should I get that or this 5070ti?

    • +2

      That's an unreal price for a 4070 T S

      • Wait a 4070 Ti S is better than a 5070Ti? My god these naming conventions are absolute garbage

        • No

        • +1

Id be grabbing that 4070ti super. The 5070ti is only marginally better. And has DLSS 4. Not >$300 better…
