Revolut Adding Money

Wondering if there are any fees by adding money to a Revolut account via Google Pay/credit card?

This would be a good way of reaching minimum spend for cc offers.

Depends on your card. Revolut will ban you if you use it to just collect CC points.

If you use with CC, you'll be slugged with Cash Advance fees

      • Even with Google pay payment? I did a test with a small amount. Will wait until it clears, but doesn't appear as cash advance?

        • I have tried with Combank, got slugged with $3 cash advance luckily my balance was positive, aka not in negative, Hence i didn't use bank's funds

  • Need to use a debit card.

Also don't know how to activate direct debit it's weird

  • Link a CDC and collect cashback.

    • WOuldn't that fall under financial services exclusion? Or have you tried this and it works?

      • Location Hong Kong

Revolut isn't available in Hong Kong. Crypto guys just love to speculate.

        • Get a domicile in 🇵🇹 or 🇸🇬 and use that to Revolut.

Works for me, but every time I have mentioned it in a comment, I get flamed saying it doesn’t work for them and I’m blamed for their cash advance fee etc.

    • Depends on which bank really. I know Citibank (debit) completely blocks Revolut so banks know where the money is going.

      • Interestingly, I was able to fund Revolut using a Citibank credit card. The card had money on it so it was not treated like a cash advance.

  • Sorry to resurrect this thread, but interested to know which credit cards are able to top up Revolut without incurring Cash Advance fee? I've heard Amex (all), Commbank and Westpac can't but St George, Citibank are OK. Any others?

  • Just received an email that Revolut are now charging 1% fee if you're topping up by CC. Anyone know of an alternative that doesn't?

    • Really doubt it. Party is over. 🥲

Surprised it lasted as long as it did.

      • Not many ppl talking about it, is there a way to still avoid 1% fee?

        • Don't think so.

FYI topping up via Google Pay linked to a credit card does not seem to attract a fee, but topping it up directly with the CC directly does. (At least for my Citibank CC)

          • @wangasm: Seems like there is weekly limit of $700 on google/apple pay.

@sidozbargain: I've topped up $1000 twice within the same day, no fees or limits.

  • Tried Revolut today, it allows few things which were not possible before afaik, such as:
    - free cash withdrawal from 90day 0% interest credit cards (normally you can do it but you pay high interest on withdrawas and money transfers) top up Revolut via Google pay (no fee) then either withdraw with Revolut for no fee or transfer to any debit card (in seconds) - also no fee - and withdraw.
    - internet free money transfers with CC, same as above.
    - Zip repayment using CC - you can't normally use CC for zip repayments but revolut makes it possible. Procedure is also similar as above, transfer CC money to any debit card and repay Zip.
    - in theory you could use Revolut to move all your 90day interest free credit card allowance into an offset account and get the interest benefit (as long as you repay in full before the 90 days..)

I'm wondering if doing any of the above will be classified as suspicious and incur in account suspensions etc. Anyone?

    • It is interesting, I've heard of loopholes like this existing in the past (that's why we have merchant card codes) but I think if you are doing it that often for that much money it will likely be eventually picked up by Revolut or card provider.

I can use my cc to pay Zip repayment no problems. Also, adding money to your Revolut account now surcharge up to 1%. And, I got my account blocked because using Revolut to manufacture cc points and their specialist contacted me saying that I can’t use their service to gain advantages from other businesses or my account will be closed, do those at your own risk, not financial advice.

      • Using google pay there's no fee to add money, at least in my experience. And I cant use CC to repay Zip unless I am willing to pay 20% p.a. interest (or more)

    • Where do you get that info from? Just tested it and Revolut singled out every credit card I have on google pay. They're not that silly to let you move you money around that easy.
Revolut is useless among the new fintech circles anyway, starting off with free fx transactions sounds promising but many traditional banks has since caught up leaving them not much leverage nowadays. Those fees and limitations are ridiculous and you're not well protected due to them not being a proper financial institution under Apra.

Revolut Google Pay only works with some credit cards. In my case it works with the Citibank Premier card no problem.

        • It's only a matter of time before they catch up with the list of cards so unless you can get it done now there's no point making another half-baked banking solutions into the list.

      • I did that with my own google pay and my own platinum credit card. Took money from the cc through Google pay , put it into Revolut, and transferred it into my debit card.

        • I think Revolut charges fee from GWallet CC top-up now.

@Neoika: yep just tried, they now charge 0.76% of the transaction as a fee when using Google Pay with CC.

            • @liongalahad: Probably they just worked out with digital wallet services about the type of cards in it, debit or credit. In other words, it probably still has no charge on a debit card.

I haven't use it since the fee kicked in and just found that the disposable card is MasterCard now.

            • @liongalahad: Do you know if you will be charged before you top up or only afterwards?

              • +1

@gizzard: Revolut is up front about the fee, they will tell you how much before the actual top up.
Beware your CC may charge a cash advance fee though, which you may not know until you get your statement.

          • @Neoika: Sometimes they do, and sometimes no:
my first transaction was without fee, then tried again few weeks later - 0,76% fee.
My wife did the same - no fee for 2 transactions.
            no idea how they decide
