  • Sorry for my ignorance, could you pls tell whats included in this starter kit? any 3G or Next-G data?

    • Here is the link to telstra:

      http://www.telstra.com.au/shop/Consumer/NGTSOProductDetailsV…

You should be able to get more detailed information from clicking the "More details" links. No mention on that page about the iPad plan (data only) which you can use with these cards (which is what I'm using them for). The only thing with the iPad plan is you need to activate over the telephone as the online activation doesn't list that plan.

  • if only you could use this as a year's supply of credit without getting a new phone number/activating new sim each time.

    • It's good for some of us on longlife/simplicity - sure you have to activate a new sim but you can creditme2u $29 to your normal number. Keeps me going for 2-3 months at a time.

    • technically, you could port to number across by porting out each month and back in, would cost $2/mth for a vf or optus sim, and take an extra day, much hassle, but for $12/mth, might be doable for some.

      • strongly advise against this unless you want to flood your telstra account with prepaid billing accounts.

  • Nice - but still got few left from last week's Coles $10 also…

  • In the picture, it mentions "Only valid until the 1st of May 2012."

So we have only 1 week before the $30 credit expires?

      That's just the Woolies sale.

    • greenpossum is correct - that is when the woolies catalogue sale finishes.

FYI - the last lot of these cards I purchased expired Jan 2015. You need to check back of card as old stock will expire a little earlier.

  • Does it include any data ? I cant see a mention of it (a boy look ?)

    • $30 worth of calls and data. The mix depends on which plan you opt for. See the previous deals, probably the first one.

after you finish with the credit, you can switch to optus and get $90 gift cards :D

  • Thanks for the heads up op. There seems to be mixed consensus on the other ozbargain threads and whirlpool as to whether the purchase of multiple packs can be used to do a creditme2u for the purposes of doing a $150 12 month data recharge, with some saying this is only possible with a single $150 recharge. Has anyone ever tried the CM2U method for long life data?

    • CreditMe2U can only extend up to 14 days.
So if you get 2 you can keep their life going at around $1/month(25c/number/14days). This would be quiet annoying though.
Please note that I don't believe it extends credit if you already have more than 14days left over.

  • 1st day into the last sale, I went to 4 Safeways before they had one in stock (Ivanhoe, Heidelberg, Epping then finally Northland). Its a good deal if you can find it - otherwise false advertising as all of them claimed they never had stock….

    • Coles will give you a raincheck on the deal for future stock, good for 1 yr. and they ask hhow many you want, no limit.

      • So will Wwths, but only good for 4 weeks. If they are out of stock, and you request it before the special ends — close of business tomorrow (Tues 1 May 2012) — they will supply them to you at the $10 price when they next get them in stock during that 4 wks.

  • I was just about to purchase this Telstra $30 sim for my iPad so the timing of this sale has worked out great.

Generally from the other threads I see that I will purchase this at woolies and then go into a Telstra store and they will swap it for a Micro-Sim. What doesn't make it clear is whether I can activate it in the Telstra store or I still have to call Telstra.

    Any clarification would be appreciated
    Thanks

If you are going to load up on these - it would be easier to buy a sim cutter on ebay and activate on the phone.

      • Great suggestion, picked up a cheap sim cutter on ebay. ATD, do you know the answer to my question above?

        • Sorry, do not know the answer of combining credit. At $10 for 3GB, isn't it better to buy 12?

Just a tip, the sim cutters can leave a bit of an edge - easiest way to fix it so it fits snugs in the sim tray is to get a cheap nail file and clean the edges up a bit. I used one out of the complementry bathroom kits that some hotels provide.

      • Thanks ATD. I have seen them on ebay but I was just going to buy this sim once and then sign up for a 365 day 12gb recharge towards the end of the initial mth.

Unless of course you can buy up to 12 of these and get 3gb per mth. I thought I read somewhere that you cannot do this?

        • I'll be honest and say I'm in my first month so haven't changed the sim yet, but I don't believe there will be a problem (I've got 20+). I have a couple of other current telstra sims that I stopped using and no mention of a problem - even referred to a previous number so didn't have to go through all the info again.

I bought these for my iPad and changing of the sim will only take a couple of minutes so well worth the effort for the savings.

When you activate the sim on the phone, you have to specify the ipad data deal and they may make reference to the ipad starter kit. They do not know (from what I could tell) which kit the sim is from (hint hint) You only need to confirm that the sim is being used for an ipad only etc etc and if they find out you've used it for another device they will change the rate etc etc.

        • Error. Double Post.

        • Thanks. Hopefully it does work out ok considering after the initial sim, its $150 for 12gb over 365 days vs $120 for 36gb over 12 mths.

Surely they must ask for your name etc when settIng up a new sim?

        • Yes they do - I just gave them a previous telstra number so they had all my details and just needed to confirm still up to date.

Worse case scenerio I see is I flog them on ebay to get my money back.

        your correct thanks

  • Can someone confirm that you can activate this on the Long Life plan and get 6 month credit expiry (rather than 1 month) without creditme2u mess? Conflicting reports from a previous thread about this offer.

    • I grabbed one of these a month or two ago, and have moved it to a 12 month recharge after the initial recharge.

      • 12 month? How? $30 only provides 6 months…

        • There are some long life plans. It was $100.

        • I don't want to spend $100, I only want to spend the $10.

  • The last time I bought these where a couple of weeks back, and all you need to do to activate them is call the Telstra INDIAN centre to complete the activation and tel them you want the iPad plan which comes with 3Gb of data which expires in 30days. Very simple process, just the hardesst part is understanding what the opposite line is sayiN to you. 3x $30 starter packs for only $30 lasted me for a month, funny thing was each time I activated my new sim, the same ladyfrom india answered my call, now that's creepy…

    • Big Telstra is watching you. :)

  • I setup one of these for my 4G dongle, according to telstra it only has 700MB available on it on the $30 credit, did i bugger something up?

  • For those who are buying it for their mobile broadband, please take note that this is not a recharge voucher as such, you will be topping up your accounts with creditme2u- $15 max per day and that will equate to you paying 8c for every mb of data.

Saw heaps of them at the woolworths right above town hall station today*

  • So can anyone confirm i can just buy 12 of these and activate 1 a month on my ipad for the year and yield 3gb a month?

  • Plenty available (~30+) at Wynard Woolies (Sydney). They can sell 5 per transaction, no limit.

    • Oh - and expiry is Feb 2015. Orange colour packaging.

  • Is the expiry of the $30 in this pack fixed at 30 days? (even if you choose Long Life)

    • yes it is. Caught me out the first time I got one, I expected the 3Gb to last a lot longer

  • Went to 3 Woolworths, they all want photo ID, is there one that doesn't ask for ID? (they're going to be used by people I don't really know, so I don't want my name on them)

    • Technically it's required by law, but you might find some staff who cbf/aren't trained on the matter - you'll need to look around though.
