Every 3rd week this deal pops up?

    • Yeah, so it's only a matter of time with the other telcos too. :)

  • Good deal, always hard to find.

  • Can this be activated as an iPad SIM (i.e. get 3gb of data)?

    • Read the instructions in this post:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61487

      • it seems like when you do it online there's also an option for an ipad.

        • There isn't (as yet), the option I believe you are referring to is a data+ plan which is different to the ipad plan. You have to activate for the ipad by calling them.

  • Ofc they always do these deals, they pretty much get the SIM's from the teleco's for free!

  • Are they offering a micro-sim aswell?

    • just walk into a telstra store and as them to give you a micro sim for free. Then ring up the customer service line and transfer over to micro sim!

      • So do you activate the regular-sized SIM from the starter kit, and then call up and get them to do a sim swap to the micro SIM?

And when asking at the Telstra shop - do they give you a micro SIM prepaid starter kit, or is it just a generic micro SIM that they use for all customers (postpaid, prepaid, etc.)?

        Thanks

Just use a hobby knife and cut it down, easy enough if you take your time and it saves a trip to the telstra store as well as waiting 24hrs for the sim to transfer.

    • pop into a telstra store, most of them have a thingo that can cut it down for you (looks like a stapler).

or you can trouble yourself by calling them up.

      • ebay sells microsim cutters cheaply

        • If it get stuck inside, it voids the warranty. Not worth it to save $20 imo.

  • Just say, if I got this and went on the 'Text and Data' and activated it, will I get the 700mb data and free txts? Or do I have to recharge first?

  • I phoned them

Get the sim, activate and select one of these plans

    easy

  • This started pack bring a Voucher with 30 bucks plus a new sim card to active?
Because I've got a telstra prepaid and I just need de credit…

    • doesnt work like this, please read previous post…

  • very hard to find a woolworth that have stock…

    • But it doesn't start until Wed.

  • shame you have to call them up every month…. :P

Oh boy, I sold one of these packs to a customer today.
I don't want to be anywhere near that guy when he finds out about this deal…

  • Think this comes with 3gb of data, great for iPad.

  • I'm gonna buy 20 of these and activate every month for my ipad lol

    • I bought 20+ of them in november, and used up 20 of them already… some for long distance call, some for parents' spare phones, some for data.
very hard to find a woolworth that have stock…

    • I thought of that too, but I thought an individual cannot have more than 5 activated SIMs at the same time. Is this really enforced though?

  • Is there any way to get 3GB data apart from using it on a ipad. I am thinking of using this just for data on one of my old mobiles.

  • I have Telstra elite wifi modem, sinCe I only have wifi ipad2 from a gift, I spend least 6gb per months so i reccharge about $100, getting 10 of these $10 Sim with 3GB Of data is worth 30Gb, much more worth it with this deal.

  • So this plan isn't worth it if it's not going into an iPad then… What's the best prepaid option to put into my old phone to use only for tethering? Woolies even though they charge in MB? Or Amaysim?

    • woolies $29 cap is 5gb of data with 45 day expiry. optus network. I'm yet to find something to tempt me away from that. I use it on my everyday phone, I am yet to get close to using it all in the 45 days (tethering I imagine could use a lot more if you tried though). the charging in mb isn't an issue, unless your phone is constantly dropping in and out of reception while chewing data.

another nice thing is I even kept getting emails into the next day, after my period had expired without me noticing. so not sure how their data network's synching with the period expiry…

    • buy a microSIM cutting tool :D

      • forget about buying a cutting tool… just print out a template and use that. Or if you have a microsim lying around you can use that as a guide.

  • U guys know if Telstra shops price match this? Cause would be alot easier to get from them. That's for me.
Also reading from past posts, the 3gb data, do u need to ring Telstra to get the data or it's auto when activating the account?

  • $10 for 3gb sounds nice

    Will have to buy some

  • Just went down to kogarah and they had the new packing for these, was told the $10 are old stock?? The ones they had here orange packed???

    • Just picked up 2 at Woolies in Windsor NSW. They were also orange with expiry 29 NOV 2014.

      • Orange?

  • so how much calls/data u get and for how many days?

    • -2

      Google it?

  • can i use the credit on an existing sim?

  • Anyone in Melbourne successfully get it?
The coles express ones I tried so many stores but none.
Hope this time I could get some.

  • DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA< HOW WOOLWORTHS DO THERE SALES? they are useless and i have visited 3 stores and called up 5 stores and none have any idea about this.. they only have the orange $30 starter packs..i asked if they could fix the price for the orange ones since they both are $30 Telstra starter packs, and they either dont know or have none, or just come in and we might be able to do it, i WDHeck?!

    • is it Wednesday yet ?

  • Thanks OP, just picked up a dozen to keep me going for a while on the iPad

    Expiry: 23 Jan 2015

    Tempted to get some more….

    • Which store? In melbourne every storegirl seems know nothing about this.

      • I've got 5 from Stud Park SC, Rowville, VIC

Any woolworth should have it unless sold out.
the only problem is they don't wanna sell more than a few at a time.

and make sure you bring extra IDs if you want more than one at a time

      • Sorry mate - this was Woolies at Brisbane CBD. They didn't bat an eyelid when I said I wanted 12. Will get some more tomorrow if any are left as I don't think there's a chance the deal will get any better.

  • Data charged at 1024kb increments :(

    Not happy jan

  • They're selling the new packaging (orange pack) ones for $10 as well…. bought 12 from woolies with no issues.

    • Woolworths The Glen, Glen Waverley that is :)

    • Cheers I live near by. I will get 7 more to get the total of 12 lol

Tried 4 stores, all had no stock. Decided my time was worth more than $20. Brought the actual iPad starter pack for $30 from Telstra store.

  • You sure the ORANGE PACK is $10? Cause they scanned up as $30….

    • 10000000%…. i bought 12 of them today.

  • -3

Going to lol so much if Telstra catch on to this iPad loop whole and stop iPad plan activations on non iPad starter pack sims. Then what will you do with 12 ($120) worth of sims? Enjoy your greedy smugness for now.

    • Perhaps it's part deliberate? They can say they have so many new customers this quarter…….

    • I'm laughing at a guy who would drive to 4 different stores with the only intent on purchasing 1 starter pack. Be honest before venting your sour grapes on others.

  • Just a question.. I might be like others on here whom bought the woolworths $12.50 recharges that run on the optus network.. is this telstra deal similar? such as you buy a sim and it comes with a recharge voucher? Or is the credit locked to the particular sim?

    • Read the other comments before asking the same question?

    • It's tied to the sim. What you might be able to do is when your credit expires, port your number to an Optus sim. Then activate your next Telstra sim and ask to port your number over from Optus. Do this every month and you'll get your $30 credit for the one number.

      • That sounds possible.. but a bit of a pain compared to my current setup with woolworths sims.. I bloody have like 10 starter packs here.. and just use my dockets as need be.. I've done this for ages now because the deal is still around I belive.. turned my $30 per month spending into $12.50.. every 45days! The only reason I was looking at this telstra deal was my signal in my house just sucks in general.. tho If I go outside it's alright and I get 3g.. I'm probably best to stay put with woolies and just live with it lol

  • Just bought 2 at Muldura Woolworths. I went to the service desk and showed the op's scan on my phone. No issues at all. Good timing too, as today I'm going camping where there is no reception other then Telstra Next G.

  • Really want to use this for my iPhone. But it does seem like you can't use the $30 cap if you activate it as a new SIM then transfer credit to your real number because you can only transfer $10 a day and each transfer costs 25c. I think the only way to do this is to port the number to and from another network each month…
