St George is the only bank that declines my applications even though no problems with credit score or income

    • +28

How does that make you feel? Do you ever find you have a growing unease when around dragons and the Illawarra region?

    • St George and HSBC are the only banks that decline my applications too.

    • Even Afterpay reject me 😭

    • +1

Similar story here…not declined but I applied for $15k credit card to replace my ANZ Rewards Black ($15k limit right now). St George approved it right but max credit limit they could give me was $2,000.00 😂😂

      • +1

Try decreasing your credit limit before you apply for another, I think it helps with the liability or something. Reducing mine to those minimum $6k limits helped me I think. Not sure about St George.

      • I also have the ANZ rewards black and I want to apply for the St George, but unsure with 15k limit if they will approve me for another credit card…Do you know if they have minimum income for them to approve it?

        • Sorry not sure about the minimum income part. I earn ~90k and getting the ANZ Rewards Black was a breeze. Zero issues and got it approved within a few days. St George one got approved with a much lower credit limit but no one has even bothered to call me back.

    • Ditto, after 3 years of back to back approvals
All of a sudden rejection after rejection.
Only thing that's changed is my earnings have doubled while outgoings have stayed the same.

Maybe they're trying to discourage people that would pay back credit too easily.

      • +3

they black listed people who took advantage of bonus points and closing the cards quickly.

        • +1

          Source?

          • @Westpac: my broker

            • @[Deactivated]: Is it with all banks? or specifically st George?

              • +1

@Westpac: no idea, I got rejected a while back, even amex. I used to had 16 credit cards in 18 months lol.

and refinance too rejected. its kinda like credit report thing.

                • @[Deactivated]: Wow 16 credit cards in 18 months you must have accrued billions of points during that time.

                  • +2

@nightelves: and then banned lol. need few years to clear out the red sheet…

                    • +1

@[Deactivated]: but at least you got those billions of points.

                      • @nightelves: Citibank closed my accounts saying i would be harming their reputation if they continued with them… yep also blacklisted

                        • @Turd: Are you serious? What were you doing to harm their reputation? Now I'm a bit nervous because I've got 3 credit card and gaming their system.

                          • @nightelves: No fken idea…. i was using the cc as normal, and ive had that card for like 10 years.

Mulitple attemps to talk to them about it failed

                            • @Turd: Do they tell you straight out that you've been blacklisted?

                              • +1

@nightelves: Not in those words but saying we cant deal with you. Probably thing im a money launder or something

                                • @Turd: Yeah they probably think I'm the same with all the Revolut transactions 😂

    • +4

Meh I got rejected by Kogan Credit, top that.

    • happens, lol, most likely you have a mortgage? i've built a portfolio for 14 years, high income earner, but they see overall debt on their algorithms and its automatic decline.
Yet if i go for a 2m loan they'll approve hahahaha
Yet a person who is in financial hell gets a card no problems hahahahh

  • Is this a good deal or does st George usually have better cc deals?

    • +1

It was 130k bonus points for this card before but no cashback on Kayo.

  • Is this one better than this

    • +1

If you use Kayo, this deal is better as $450 gift cards + $25x12 Kayo - $29 AF = $721, compared to the $600 cashback you get with the HSBC card. I prefer the HSBC card as I don't use Kayo and I would also prefer getting straight cashback rather than gift cards.

      • My intention was for balance transfer, confused with the statement "When requested at card application. 1% balance transfer fee applies if you make a balance transfer."

What happens if I request it later?

        • Balance transfer is only available at time of application.

      • Can you please share the link for applying the HSBC card?

      • -1

Nobody pays $25 for Kayo, your over valuing the benefit.

  • What are the points actually worth?
Say how many ti buy a $100 Wishcard?

The $450 egift doesn't say what it is.
    Apparently a $250 Westfield Card is 57k.

Amplify points convert at 0.5 virgin/kris/MAS points

    • +1

Don't know for wish card but 22,800 pts for $100 Amazon or W'worths and 22,200 pts for $100 Bunnings or JB. So better than SGB but Suncorp better - point for point redemption (not taking into account annual fees or total points awarded).

      • +1

Ta, so you get ~$439 in points,

        After your $3000 soend, thats 103K ~$450.

That'll cover the annual fee for a few years.
It'll be worth it for.the hire car insurance.

        • That's right. If you redeem for $450 lower point cards (eg, Bunnings or JB), that's 99,900 pts, and you have 3,100 pts left over (from 103k pts). You can get a $20 Bunnings card (lowest value) for 4,450 pts so you have the option of spending $1,350 extra to reach 4,450 pts then redeem for Bunnings card. Or get some Amazon / W/orths cards instead of the lower pts cards.

    • You can get better value if you go for annual fee rebate, which is basically cashback: 1 x $79 + 1 x $99 + 1 x $279 = $457 for 83,125 points.

Keep in mind that you can only redeem one of each. And then use the remaining points to redeem some gift cards.

      • If I'm understanding this correctly, the $457 will just become credit that will deduct from your charges on the card?

        • +1

          Yup!

        • +1

Confirming this still works. I just received my $457 credit to my BankSA card. Plus, I got $90 in eBay gift cards for a total of 103150 points.

      • I was able to order 2 of the $279 rebates.

        • I tried that too but it would be stuck in their system which I eventually had to call them to cancel the redemption. Let us know if it works for you.

          • @zebargaro: I also ordered 2 X $279 but the credit is yet to be applied.

            • @Ash-Say: See my comment on the next page

I believe if you order 2x of the same rebate amount it will get flagged until you call them

              • @dorikin: Well they should put restriction at checkout to avoid confusion.

Will ring them tomorrow to find out.

        • Update: still haven’t received the rebates, so called up and asked them to fix it. So yeah it doesn’t work if you order 2.

  • +3

Take care with opening a new account for the sole purpose of getting the annual fee waived. Previous OzBers have reported auto-rejection due to accounts that too fresh and suggest waiting a bit after opening account and signing up:

    • St George is auto-rejecting for a lot of reasons at the moment unfortunately and will never disclose why.

      • which card do you think I can get easily for BT, got rejected by HSBC

    • in the previous round I applied new banking account and credit card rightaway, no issues

  • Step 2
Activate a Kayo Basic or Premium subscription within 30 days of card approval and set up payment details using your new Amplify credit card.

    Step 3
After each subscription payment, you’ll receive $25 cashback as a statement credit on your card account for the first 12 months from card approval.

So I wonder if you use the Telstra Offer, only pay $5/mth if you get the $25 back each month?
i.e. are they just looking for a charge from Kayo every month or are they getting info from Kayo?

    • curious about this too and assume you need to keep the card for 12+ months to get the credits

    • Fine print says Not available in conjunction with other Kayo offers.

      • Yeah but I wonder how it's decided. It sounds like it's the bank's end. I suspect it might be like the Amex offers which excludes giftcards purchases, but still payout because they don't actually know you've purchased one.

    • Isn't Telstra offer only available with billing from Telstra? So you'd never have a Kayo transaction on your statement.

      • +1

Nope, you just need to click thru from your Telstra a/C to activate. They were billing my amex until I discovered cheap giftcards.

        • Ah fair enough, mine’s been on for ages and I didn’t remember any other options. That was the $5 deal though so maybe different to the $15? Either way I might cancel and take up this offer!

  • I literally applied for this card two days ago, when the offer was 130k Amplify points + $49 AF…I wonder which one I'll get , if my application gets accepted.

    • +2

The one you applied.for 130k they attach offer codes to the URL when you apply.

    • I applied for this too. Now I am wondering if I should cancel my existing application and apply for this instead for free kayo subscription even though I will be losing 30k points.

      • If you applied already I wouldn't cancel. The 2 hits to your credit file would hurt.

        • -1

Doesn't hurt as much now after the revised credit score. Been applying left right and centre and only really dropped about 20 points.

          • @nightelves: WP. My score just went up a bit this month. Haven't been applying, trying to sort out my mortgage soon. Gotta make it look pretty. Previously would have applied 4-5 times a year.

            • @starburstyellow: St George has their own internal credit score.
I recently applied for refinance. My score from a website using equifax data was like 950, and St George which also uses Equifax data told me my score is like 550 and declined my refinance

              • @hoangdekiem: Interesting how it's different. Either way I try monitor my credit score with Equifax (have a subscription), and have never been declined. I have since stopped the service as I'm not applying a new CC in next 6 months.

  • First year annual fee is waived for existing customer. —- i can't find this in term condition

    • +2

You need to access the credit card page via internet banking.

      • thanks! similarly, their qantas card also offers:

60,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend $3,000 or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval>.
No card fee for the first year (saving $99)+.

        • +1

I went for that one - just enough points to trigger my Qantas Points Club Plus renewal (350K QFF points per FY) for 2022-23 😝

          • @muncan: good, although westpac has 75000 points but need $50 for qantas rewards

this one is 60000 without any fee

I prefer this one as I don't need any points beyond my need

            • @baron33: Fear not, I’ll apply for Westpac too later this year, once my 12 month cooling off has finished.

    • I signed up under the previous existing customer offer with Bank of Melbourne, I was still charged the $49 annual card fee. After questioning it, the rep didn't seem to know or feigned ignorance about the existing customer offer. Eventually I was told that the fee waiver doesn't apply to a customer's first card with the bank but BoM would refund the first year fee as a 'one time goodwill gesture'. I call bullshit as their T&Cs don't say anything about this and they are trying to see how many card fees they can sneak through without customers noticing/complaining.

  • Beat me to it. Preferred the 130k points but the fee got lower. The kayo benefit is meh but I guess some people might have use for it.

  • +2

I'm paying $15 per month for Kayo, so this will save me $180 + the 100k rewards for ~$450 worth of gift cards. I'm not sure which one is the cream and which is the cherry on top.

    • "Not available in conjunction with other Kayo offers." tho

  • +1

looks like Kayo is not included if you go via Bank of Melbourne

    • Yeah noticed that also.

  • I bank with st george, filled out the form and got it instantly. My last St George card was late 2020.

  • Any good discounted gift cards on st George or are they all pretty much the same?

  • It's a shame they lowered the signup bonus from 130k points to 100k.

  • Is the annual fee waived if I have a mortgage with them? (so I have already paying $400/year for the package)
    Thanks

    • Best is to get points and they ask to waive the fees by linking to your package.

      • Oh, so if I linked it from the beginning I won't receive the points?

        • +1

          Correct

  • -1

No card fee for the first year (saving $99)^^ -

    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…

    • $29 now unless you are existing costume as above

  • Can the points be converted to Singapore airlines KrisFlyer?

    • Yes at 2:1 ratio.

  • -1

any existing customers had any luck? i got denied.

my amplify card is swapping over in the coming weeks anyway, was thinking of cancelling it anyway (f st.george), and i guess they gonna force my hand.

  • Any indication at all of minimum income requirement? Sorry if already mentioned somewhere :)
