Finally a straight discount vs bonus points! Thanks OP!

    • +3

Please, full credit must go to the FB group I linked in the OP. They discovered the deal!!

  • Why no NSW :(

    • +1

Probably because there was an identical deal exclusive to NSW and ACT about six months ago.

      • +3

Why no SA, NT, WA, QLD?

        • Well at least, QLD.

    • There’s always hope for the week after

      • Naah. I reckon it would be March next year. Vanilla Visa is usually once every year.

    • +1

Probably because NSW and QLD are still dealing with the tampered cards.

      • That's not QLDs fault. Don't let the tamperers win.

  • -1

Can these be used as payment for Coles master giftcards?

    • Probably not, they only have signature verification.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Waiting for this to pay my council rates.

    • Me too, council and water are hounding me threatening me with debt collectors haha.

    • How do you pay council rates with these? Via bpay or direct debit?

      • +1

I pay my local council rates using these directly through the council website. Gold Coast City Council.

  • +1

the treasure hunt game begins.. start checking out pet food aisle and dental products aisle.

    • +2

      It's changed from freezer sections?

    • I didn't realise this was on yesterday so I thought there'd be none but there's tons of em. Normally my coles has bugger all.

  • Can we use it to pay for ATO ? When WA will be ?

  • +1

YES! Need this to pay all the upcoming rates and land tax (due today).. will wait for a few days :)

    • How would it work with this card? BPAY?

      • Online payment portal. I have gone into the council and paid too.

  • +1

Seems to be lots of issues with people using these based on productreview.

    • Yes because you need to sign and some merchants don’t accept signatures card.

      • -1

Unsure but going by comments more issues than that. Not bought these ones before but feedback not positive.

        • I couldn’t use it at Costco and some sites that requires 3D authentication. I could pay rates and land tax with it. Also no issue with utilities either.

  • +2

    Good luck all

  • -2

    any limit?

  • +2

Just in time to pay my GST bill on Oct 1st - gonna be like Mad Max trying to get these I reckon

    • OMG I’ll get a feature in your newsletter! Thanks Anthony!

      • +1

        haha, yeah, next week :)

  • -7

Won't be any stock with a limit of 5 cards per day per account :(

My local Coles is the worst for stock of these

Time to go hide some cards in the other store :)

  • +1

My council doesn't accept this card anymore.

  • +2

    I knew I needed a business trip to Melbourne….

    • I am genuinely in Melbourne for work this week. Winner winner.

  • Off topic but how do I use small amounts on these gift cards? None of the stores I frequent have the payment where PIN is not required. I’ve got a bunch of these cards with $1-4 on them + the Coles Gift Cards that were sent digitally so those can’t be used in store also with $1-4 on them.

    • +3

pay bills, use in self self checkout, or send me the card numbers

    • +2

I just pay in excess when making the original payment. Pay extra on electricity.

    • +7

None of the stores I frequent have the payment where PIN is not required.

If you make a purchase in-store at Coles or Kmart or Target or Officeworks, when you swipe a Visa card, the checkout should attempt to take payment without requesting a PIN or signature for payments under about $35. You can do split payments at these stores too (with some caveats, for example you cannot do split payments at Kmart if you are purchasing a gift card).

If you make a purchase in-store at Woolworths, Woolworths Metro, BIG W or EG Ampol, as soon as you swipe a Visa card, the checkout will ask for a PIN. If you press Enter without entering any numbers on this screen, you will trigger signature verification, except all these stores do not actually ask for a signature for Vanilla Visa gift cards, so they will automatically approve the signature (without any staff intervention needed) and then will attempt to take payment. (The same should happen with Dan Murphy’s and BWS in-store, as those use a very similar checkout system to Woolworths, BIG W, etc.) You can do split payments at these stores too.

If you make a purchase in-store at JB Hi-Fi, you do not need to provide a PIN when swiping a Visa card for payments under $30. A staff member told me this the last time I made an in-person purchase.

If you need to make debt repayments to the ATO, you can do split payments through myGov or Government EasyPay to pay off your debt. I think the minimum repayment amount is $1 + at least $0.01 in payment processing fees.

the Coles Gift Cards that were sent digitally so those can’t be used in store also with $1-4 on them.

Coles gift cards (physical and digital) can only be redeemed in-store. Why do you say they cannot be used in-store?

      • +1

Thanks for it. Will do this!

      • +1

For the Coles one, I meant the Gift Mastercard (yellow/golden card). I bought them from a gift card website when on sale so they can only be used online. I’ve had no problems attaching them to Menulog/Chatime etc. but going forward I will probably just add Amazon credit. Thanks!

    • +2

      Add credit to Amazon account

    • +1

I usually top up to Linkt account. Keep it around $20, since I don't use toll roads much.

    • I donate the little bits left over to charity via their websites. $5 here, $3 there. Tax deductible too.

    • Woolies gift cards with 4% off via insurance

    • I just pay my rates/utilities in full $250 chunks.

  • +1

This card seems to be a lot harder to use than the Coles master gift card

  • Is there any limit

    • +18

      Only your ability to read

  • Hey @WookieMonster do you know if I can use Vanilla Visa GC's to purchase discounted Ultimate GC's?

    • +2

Where are you looking to purchase discounted Ultimate gift cards? My answer will depend on the merchant you are wanting to purchase from.

      • What about Aldi?

        • I am not sure whether ALDI will accept the Visa gift cards in this deal, because they should have no PIN (which means the only available verification method is signature verification) and I have no idea whether ALDI permits signature verification. ALDI's EFTPOS terminals should always ask for a PIN when you swipe a Visa card (or Mastercard or eftpos card).

The way you would attempt signature verification is to swipe on the EFTPOS terminal, select Credit, acknowledge the message warning you about the 0.5% payment surcharge, then press Enter on the PIN prompt screen without entering any numbers. If the EFTPOS terminal does nothing (or makes an error noise) when you press Enter, it means signature verification is not permitted.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: I just followed this method at Aldi, worked perfectly. Paid $180.90 (including surcharge) for $200 of Ultimate Everyone gift cards. Thanks!

            • @QantasCollector: What happened after you pressed Enter? Did you have to provide a signature to verify the transaction, or did the checkout attempt to take payment without a signature?

              • +3

@WookieMonster: I bought some Ultimate GC at ALDI as well, after pressing enter on the EFTPOS terminal, a screen pops up saying signature required, then goes straight to approved.

        • I tried this yesterday with Vanilla gift card (10% off) purchased at Coles and DID NOT work.

Swiped it and selected CREDIT - accepted surcharge message - pressed Enter the PIN prompt screen without any numbers: Boom - Declined/Error :(

          • @ppp13: Did you wait at least 30 minutes after purchasing the Vanilla Visa gift card before you attempted to use it at ALDI?

            • @WookieMonster: Oops, hmmm that might be the reason then.
Bought in Cole’s and went straight into Aldi :(

      • Wherever I can get 10/15% off a card that can be used at JB or OW. What merchants accept Vanilla Visa?

        • +2

Vanilla Visa gift cards are accepted at merchants that choose to accept them.

In terms of merchants that have sold Ultimate gift cards at 10% off or 15% off in the past:

          • Coles is a tricky one, because whether the gift card is accepted may come down to whether the staff member will accept it as a payment method. Coles does not ask for a PIN or signature if you swipe a Visa card and the amount you want to charge is under ~$35. Above this threshold, the checkout will ask for a PIN. If you press Enter on the PIN prompt screen without entering any numbers, you will need to go through the signature verification process. A staff member will need to provide you with a slip of paper for you to sign and then it is up to the staff member whether they accept your signature. If they do, the checkout will attempt to process payment from the Visa card; if not, the card will be declined. With signature verification, the staff member is supposed to compare the signature you provide on the slip of paper with the signature on the back of your payment card and/or on any ID you may have on you, but it looks like the Visa gift cards in this deal no longer have a signature panel… Additionally, signature verification was phased out as a verification method for almost all Australian-issued payment cards in 2014, so there is a chance the staff member helping you will have no idea why the checkout is asking you to provide a signature.

          • Woolworths and BIG W will likely accept them. When you swipe a Visa card, you will pretty much always be asked for a PIN. However, if you press Enter on the PIN prompt screen without entering any numbers, the checkout will not actually ask for a signature and will skip straight to attempting to take payment. Having said that, if a staff member notices you using a Vanilla Visa gift card as a payment method and they care enough to stop you, they can.

          • I am not sure about ALDI.

          • I have previously tried using Vanilla Visa gift cards on the Coles Group gift card portal (giftcards.com.au) and they have been rejected, so I doubt they are accepted there.

          • I have no idea whether the Australia Post website accepts Vanilla Visa gift cards as a payment method. Having said that, PayPal is listed as an accepted payment method, so an alternative is to link the Vanilla Visa gift card to your PayPal account, then use PayPal on the Australia Post website as the payment method, ensuring you choose the Vanilla Visa gift card as the funding source.

The only 10%/15% off deal for Ultimate gift cards coming up that I know of is the deal for "10% off" selected Ultimate gift cards at ALDI. If ALDI accepts Vanilla Visa gift cards, you need to keep in mind that ALDI will charge a 0.5% payment surcharge for Visa (and Mastercard) payment cards, and there is no way you can avoid that surcharge with Vanilla Visa gift cards (hence the reason I wrote "10% off").

Was this the card that scammers love to target? Have they found a way to stop these from happening?

    • It looks like an insider's job to me now.

    • I think that's one of the reasons why there are new packaging for these gift cards. Just my 2 cents.

  • Will this work at an Apple Store? Thinking of combining with the Vodafone $1000 off deal

  • Does it have to be the GC's specifically listed on the FB post? From memory there are two versions of this GC and it has to be a specific one that's part of the discount?

    • +2

Uhhh strictly speaking, the Visa gift cards operated by InComm and sold at Coles were changed within the last 2-3 weeks and should now look like this. These have the same stock barcodes as the older style Vanilla Visa gift cards pictured in the Facebook post, so it should not matter whether you purchase the new look Visa gift cards or the older style Vanilla Visa gift cards. However, considering I have not seen the older style Vanilla Visa gift cards any at Coles I have visited within the last week, I suspect by the time this deal starts, you will only find the new look Visa gift cards.

  • +2

Worked to pay the ATO online.

Couldn't pay my energylocals account online with this card.

    :(

  • +3

Already disappeared in local Coles, only $50 and $400 left.

    • Same

    • -1

Huh? The deal hasn't started yet tho…

      • +1

Yes, and it's already too late in some stores - cards are hidden by staff

        • Report to head office

      • If people didn't have an inflated sense of entitlement, I wouldn't have to neg them.

        • Well I do aim to get around $10K of these cards, so yep :)

          • -1

@Dealseeker21: hope all $10k you buy has already been compromised

            • -2

@CodeXD: Even if some of them are, it gets fixed eventually :)

  • -1

Probably an old question but can you use gift cards to buy gift cards?

    • +1

Depends on the type of gift card … 🙃

  • -3

Can I borrow these cards from a NSW store and process the transaction in VIC. ? I doubt stock is state located by store .. anyone know

    • NO

    • +1

No, barcodes are loaded into each stores system

      • Not sure about that. I’ve purchased cards from unopened packets behind the shelf before. They can’t scan those if they are from the box sealed

  • Went to 3 different Coles today, only 5 x$250 in total, lots of $400
    Will give up tomorrow.

    • +1

Tiny chance they will put them out tomorrow, I know my local one, sometimes, puts them out during the day and never first thing in the morning.

2 of the Duty Manager's know me and will actually help which is good

The Store Manager is not helpful at all, and it's 100 questions and all too hard that someone will buy $1200 of gift cards in one go and then want to come back daily for more.

  • none on shelves, already empty . This was the store i always had something left .
i wouldn't expect there would be any stock left tomorrow. good luck .

  • Got my fill! (Only x5). My local had max 10 of $250 GC. People before me were looking for the yellow Coles mastercard.. I didnt have the heart to tell them

  • Nothing at wellington Coles TAS

  • +1

Well this is fun, cards don't work with my council rates and I can't pre-pay my electricity/gas bills. I guess these cards must be used in person

    • +4

In most previous deals for Vanilla Visa gift cards,1 you had to wait about 30 minutes after purchase before InComm would activate the gift card. Did you wait 30 minutes and check there was available balance before attempting to redeem the gift card for your council rates or utility bills?

      1. I say “most”, because there was one deal in the past that required you to wait around 4.5 hours before you could redeem the gift card.

  • So, old design (yellow $250) does not have discount, just checked on the checkout.

    • +2

These cards have never been in a yellow packaging.
