  • Had a look at the T and C's and can't find as yet their definition of a new customer.

    • I have sent them a message to ask what is a new customer. Will advise when I get a reply.

Called up today and customer service rep said that if you currently didn't have a card that you were a new customer.

6k spend, vs 3K for most cards.

I hope their online banking system is better than the garbage it was years ago!

    • +2

Probably not, but 1500 isn't that hard for most people. If you are running short you just buy a bunch of discounted supermarket gift cards or pay some bills in advance (remembering gov't and council utilities are excluded)

      • gift card is ok for most credit card spending count?

      • +1

I actually missed it one time thinking it's easy.

Yeah it was rubbish. Citibank still do the backend, so I'm guessing nothing has changed.

      • It’s not too bad, much better than it used to be years ago when I was a customer last.

  • Make a good screenshot of T&C and call virgin to confirm that the offer was applied. Then you have a better chance of getting this bonus.

    • I've found with credit card offers, they have no idea what you bought at the shop. Just that you went there and spent a certain amount.

  • Be careful buying things online with this card.
They will charge you an international transaction fee, EVEN IF YOU PAY IN Australian Dollars but the merchant is overseas.
Sometimes you are on an Australian website, but payments are processed by a foreign company.
I've never had this issue with any credit card I've had previously (AMEX and 28 Degrees mastercard).

As soon as I get my bonus points, I will be cancelling this immediately.

Other reasons this card is shit: no Google Pay, and account website looks 20 years old.

    • Westpac does this as well.

Is it also a 3.3% fee?

I read up on how to charge the fee: "when either the merchant or its financial institution/payment processor is located or registered overseas… Note: It may also not always be clear that the merchant or its financial institution/payment processor is located or registered outside Australia."

This is a borderline scam. How the hell do I know before the transaction if the merchant/payment processor is overseas if they have an Australian website and I'm paying in AUD?

        • I think it's slightly lower at 3%.

  • Does this card not support Google Pay?

I just assumed everyone would have by now.. but not working for me. Wondering if I should cancel before it charges the annual fee…

    • It does not support Google Pay. Citi is Virgin Money's provider, and it's the same with all their cards too.

  • Seems like there's no exclusion period?
