Crinacle review here

“ At $200… we may have a “default recommendation” contender here. The tuning is not too spicy so as to offend the sensibilities of the average newbie, it doesn’t have any complete dealbreaker flaws and I’d daresay provides a bit more excitement than the stone-cold AKG K612 Pro, which is a $200 anomaly by itself.

The HD560S exists in a price bracket where it doesn’t have much (if any) competition. Now all the market needs to do is catch up”

Rated as a B , so for the price pretty good value.

    • +1

The Sennheiser HD660S is rated B, that is definitely an A in my books. It's the best of the HD6XX series of headphones. If the HD600 is A-, then the 660S is an A.

But as they say on the page, and it's important:

You’re not supposed to agree 100% with this list, and that’s the point.

      • +1

Its an easy reference point, when he says you are not supposed to 100% agree with the list he means make sure you listen to the headphones before purchasing them. However as a comparison to other headphones the ratings can be used as an absolute comparatively to other headphones.

  • For an extra $40, it'll be better to wait for another A2A sale on the 6xx

    • +1

They don't sell the HD 6xx's anymore.

      • Damn, I should of pulled the trigger on the last sale. I've be saving my dollarydoos for the hifiman edition xs

  • This or shp9500/x2hr

    • I've got the x2hrs. Do these sound better or much different? I enjoy the x2s quite a lot.

  • Damn, i'd purchased these for $300 in November 21' - good stuff.

Bought these over Christmas, really nice pair of headphones. Enjoy everything about them, very clean sound and bass is fine for me / super controlled. I use them on some amps which works well. Seem to be a great allrounder I’ve found - sounds nice with music, movies and gaming alike. Seem to punch well above weight range for price .. Would buy again.

  • Can you run this without an amp? Any point if I only listen on spotify?

    • +3

I believe these are 120 ohm so they can be used without an amp but are close to the limit for many sources and would sound better with one

      • +1

        Yes agree.

Bought these only three weeks ago for $298. My first set of open backs, been very happy with them. My only gripe is that the cord is ridiculously long, and I've ordered a shorter version.

good deal op - thanks. still a bit undecided between this or the DT 900 Pro X

    • 560s is great but it feels a bit cheap. Not too sure about the DT 900 though

    • 560S out of the two - especially in the value for money stakes - but you should be considering the DT990 Pro (@ $180-$200), the HIFIMAN HE-X4 ($150-$180), the HIFIMAN HE-400 SE ($210), the AKG K612 Pro ($200), the Audio Technica ATH-R70X ($300-$350), and the Sennheiser HD 6XX (sub-$300, though you'll be waiting a while) depending on your use case and tonality preferences.

And FWIW, the better reviewers are not impressed with the DT 900 Pro X. Detail and technical performance are not up to the price point, and it doesn't really do anything better than the DT 990 Pro.

If you're trying to upgrade from the DT 990, just get fresh pads (though the headphone will sound a lot brighter until they wear in).

If you're taking the advice of a streamer for a gaming headphone, look instead at the AKG K612 Pro when the price softens, or step up to something like the HIFIMAN Edition XS (AliE or Taobao for sub $600) or Mr Anan's Nan-6 (Taobao for $770), which are both high-value mid-fi selections if you buy them out of China during sales and use cashbacks & coupons.

      • thanks for the reply - for what it's worth, the DT 900 Pro X is on sale at $269 at umart now (with Klarna coupon) so reduces the difference in price by a bit.

I'll be using it for a mix of gaming and music and wanted something a bit more "fun" than the AD900X i'm using at the moment, yet retaining a wider soundstage/good imaging for gaming. the DT 900 Pro X's seemed like a good compromise at the current price point, although i get that they've been noted to lack some detail in comparison to the HD560s.

I've seen many other reviewers as well recommending the DT 900 Pro X's (Fresh Reviews, Bad Seed Tech etc.) recommending these over the HD560s….so in a bit of analysis paralysis between all these "subjective opinions"

        • While they're not outright 'fun', I'd be looking at the AKG K612 and the the Audio Technica ATH-R70X. The real upgrade would be the HIFIMAN Edition XS. You should be able to get them sub-$600 after coupons and cashbacks at the next major AliE sale.

Those other review sources you're noting unfortunately don't hold a candle to others in terms of picking through the audio quality (Bad Seed basically admits as much), so instead look into what Crinacle and the Headphone Show have to say, both in video and writing.

The hard drop on the DT 900 Pro X tells you everything you need to know about how it's been received. I don't think there's a reason to consider it even at parity with the DT 990, and I wouldn't recommend either if you're regularly listening to music.
