  • Only applicable in VIC, though. Pity because I'm waiting for this type of price to bite.

  • I paid $2140 at JB Hifi (price match appliances direct) back in late october. These things are popular.

    • Same. Got it just before the Tokyo Olympics. Not the cheapest price

  • +1

Looks like its pick up only cannot get a vic address - even trying in the same suburb as the store - to work for delivery.

  • Does this work with Google Home?

    • I believe so.

The LG C1 has support for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple Homekit. There are dedicated buttons for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa on LG's magic remote.

    • Yep

    • +1

Google can turn the tv off. But not on

      • +5

A brick can do that too though

        • That's why you have kids. They can be the remote when you have lost it

      • Can the other assistants turn them on?

        • I dont use other ones sorry.

      • +2

This is incorrect, if you install the LG ThinkQ app and link your devices you can control many (but not all) aspects of the TV with Google Home

        • Personally, I don't like any voice control via my LG OLED as it's one more privacy policy/T&C's I need to accept, but good to know about the ThinkQ app.

        • -1

          Try it.
Go hey google. Turn my tv on.
Google will tell u it cant find it or cant do it.
But if u ask it to turn the tv off. It will

          • @Junnyjun: That is the behaviour until you install the LG ThinkQ app, and then it works correctly and you can turn it on.

            • @danwall: Ive got the app and its connected to my google home

          • +1

            @Junnyjun: Mine works perfectly fine.
After setting up the TV in LG's ThinkQ and then adding it to the Google Home sync'd apps, I can just say "Hey Google, turn on the TV"… Or if I'm in a different room "Hey Google, turn on the Living Room TV".

      • That's only if you are using the integrated Google Assistant. If your TV is connected to a WiFi smart plug, you can turn it on and off to your hearts content.

I paid $1925 for one from TGG during the Black Friday sales (including with gift cards). Great TV.

    • Is it one year warranty? Comparing to Sony OLED 55 inch, is it the same quality with lesser price?

      • +1

I have a B8 that I have owned 2 years. I was getting some discolouration on my screen. They replaced it for free, no questions asked. LG support is fantastic. Can’t speak to Sony’s.

      • 1 year warranty, better then the a80j if thats what your talking about. only thing better than this is the g1

        • +1

All TVs sold in Australia have two year warranties regardless of what is printed on the paper inside the box.

          • +1

            @serpserpserp: Whos that through

          • @serpserpserp: Does the two years warranty covered by ACL apply to any tv sold recently or only tv cost more than 1k?

            • +1

              @htc: Any TV

              • +1

@serpserpserp: I used the ACL argument in here before, and the response I was getting was that it's a nightmare to try an actually accomplish.
Interested to know of any success stories. I've personally hadn't needed too, just dropping the words "consumer law" they tended to back down, lol

                • @neezy:

just dropping the words "consumer law" they tended to back down, lol

Generally this is all you need to do.

                  • @serpserpserp: Lol, yeah, that's what I thought…
But not according to this guy…

                    (Final comments at the end)

                    • @neezy: That is just a statement. This guy is not saying he tried to make a claim. He could have just been talking to the salesman about a warranty.

                      • @serpserpserp: Really? I must have misinterpreted. I thought he was saying he tried to make a claim, but the retailer was being difficult and threatening to take it further to court? 🤔

Not the same as our experience when just name dropping ACL is enough 😆

Anyway, I guess his experience is valid and people should know the process may not be as simple as one would think. Some people might prefer to pay a couple hundred bucks more for a solid retail warranty to avoid all this.

Actually, I think that was his main point was that 1 year warranties on tech that costs thousands of dollars is pretty piss weak (which i do agree with).

        • +1

LG C1 is NOT better than the Sony A80j.
Same panel but the Sony has better movie processing.

Had this in my apartment but I hade to close the blinds to watch anything. Even just indirect light during the day. Do they all have this glare issue or really pricey ones don't? Picture quality is insane so sad to not fit my use case :(

    • +2

Yeah in my house in the living room it is like looking at a damn mirror. Worst if there is dust on the TV it is unwatchable. Any light does it, not just sunlight. Gives me the shits.

    • Pretty sure this is the case with all oleds. I have this, my parents have the g1. Theirs is also hard to see with light coming through the windows about 5m to the left of the tv. And the glossy finish doesn't help - I basically close all the blinds & turn off the lights if in watching movies or a series

    • +1

The current OLED standard is such that it has deeper blacks but overall less bright than LED. You need to pick the right technology for you use rather than going off reviews.

Reportedly the mini LED tech should be able to get the best of both worlds.

      • Reportedly the mini LED tech should be able to get the best of both worlds.

I think you mean MicroLED mate, MiniLED is just an improved version of FALD.

    • OLEDs have the equal lowest glare of any television. The only other TVs that equal it are high end Samsung models with their premium anti-reflective coating.

However they are more glossy than most other TVs and for some reason people perceive more reflective semi-gloss panels as being better than low glare, glossy coatings.

Another thing to note is that when watching HDR on any television you will need to close the blinds and turn out the lights however SDR on an OLED in a bright room with the brightness maxed out is perfectly watchable.

  • Was cheaper today from Myer, stacked with Cashrewards between 10-2pm, Sub $2k

Pretty sure these were 1800-1900 range last year!

Price should go down not up…

    • Inflation D'oh

      • Inflation

        Rubbish.

        1. This isn't an unusual price.

        2. If you cared about inflation you wouldn't privatise electricity thereby causing 800% price increases to an input that causes more damage than even petroleum.

    • Rrp is 2800ish, even though that's a rip.

      Typical price is 2300

    • +1

You sure it wasn't the 48" model at $1,800 last year? I could be wrong on this one.

    • Pretty sure you're wrong.
I bought mine in July and was watching prices from February 2021 cause I knew our TV was not long for this world. (and of course I've been watching prices since cause of FOMO)
pre-Black Friday prices were marginally cheaper than this, but $2100ish has otherwise been the cheapest.

    • No way dude. Ppl are getting these in the $1900s after pricing beating and gift cards/cashbacks. No way these were advertised in the $1800s. Maybe smaller or diff version, but not the 55" C1. Happy to be proven wrong as I'm sure ppl would have posted about it on here.

      • +1

I dunno why you guys are debating this stuff when you have access to the site and can see past deals :p

        Here's the 55 C1 at 1999 in dec: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672894

There's a couple of posts of the 48" touching $1800 but this looks to be the cheapest at 1790; https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674657 (can't believe I didn't see this one woulda instant purchased).

        • +1

Exactly my point. Cheers for the links/backup 🙏🏾

  • the 48" dipped to 1800 a few times, This was just under 2k when i was looking at that. I think the best sales for this are more or less done. it wa hard to find stock when looking in january. Im vurious if the c2 will be priced similarly'

    • Probably but there have been some good deals in the past around March - May when places that still have stock old the old lines need to clear them out.

  • This or the Sony X90J?

    • This. We're back at the kind of pricing that makes OLED an absolute no brainer in the 55" size.

That advice goes for the "bright room" gang as well. The X90J is not much brighter and a lot more reflective.

      • Great thanks for the explanation!

    • X90 is not up to the same standard as the C1. A80 / A90 are slightly better than C1.

  • Would JB price match?

    • In Vic I'd say yes, everywhere else no.
