….. problem currently is insurance if you hit pedestrian or if hit by car …especiallly in state where they aren’t legal ….

      • +3

What if u do the same on a bike?! Ur not liable? Last time I checked ppl on bikes don’t have insurance either are most are ridden at 30-35km/h arguably more dangerous yet they been part of the “furniture”. I don’t think this is the “problem” at all. If it was there’s simple solution to it. Time for the government to grow up and let people commute how they want. Petrol gona hit $3 a litre soon.

        • +2

Liability will vary depending on the circumstances of which party was complying with the law. So if riding illegally on footpath and hitting a pedestrian then you would be liable but if the collision occurred on a road/pathway then the pedestrian may have also contributed to the be accident. The problem with scooters is that some of them are capable of speeds similar to motor bikes which puts them in a different vehicle class for regulation.

          • @bongom: Agreed.

All things considered, scooters are too mobile to be part of the home and contents insurance, but can't legally be allowed to hold their own insurance under a motor policy. And the only way shops are legally able to cover it is under "stock", which can be motor as well as non-motor items.

It's a grey situation all around and a minefield in every sector.

          • @bongom: The problem with scooters…. is the same "problem" OR non problem with Bikes. Why is this so hard to get with a scooter but not with a bike? I got a mate that has a bike with an electric motor tied to it that does 80km/h.. and its totally legal and seems to go under the Rader for this so called regulation.

            • @Gavman: i’m in one of the trial areas in melbourne ….problem isn’t when scooters are on the bike path….it’s people ride them in very crowded shopping areas right up to the front doors of cafes ….. probably because if someone rents it you walk home but you also don’t want to pay when not riding ….. people don’t do that with bikes as they chain they up to bike parking or posts, etc ….. one person had one in woolies in st kilda and the security had to tell him he can’t have it in the supermarket ….. probabaly didn’t want to leave outside incase it gets rented and then he has to walk home ….. personally i’d carry a lock, turn off rental and tie to post until i finished my shopping but scooter renters don’t carry locks …..

              • @garage sale: And private scooter riders tend to avoid locking because they get stolen.

            • @Gavman: I can assure you your "mate's" bike is not legal at all.

I bought a G30 Max recently and I’m still questioning whether that’s for me or not
I’m 87Kg with baggage I’m around 90Kg. Having no suspension its scary every time i get off or on a foot path.
If your travel includes an incline, any moderately steep incline will give your scooter a hard time. (E.g. if max speed is 25km/hr, mild incline will reduce speed by 5km/hr a moderate incline will reduce speed by 10+km/hr).
I would consider an e-bike or a Mantis scooter if cost isn’t a contraindication.

    • I weigh 83kg and probably carry 86 on the scooter. I am not having this happen to me at all. Im surprised just how the speed holds up on inclines (some steep ones too) and nothing yet has given my scooter "a hard time". Exactly the opposite in fact. Hmmmmm

      • Interesting! What’s the make of your scooter?
I guess at their recommended incline I’m around 20-23 km/hr but when it gets above the recommended incline for example 30-40 degree incline, it slows down considerably which could be a drawback for some

        • I have G30 Max the black global one with charger built in. Of course it does slow on inclines but I'm seeing it hold up well around the 25km mark on most of the inclines I go on.

Way more powerful then the Xiaomi Pro 2 I had for a bit

Bend your knees when coming off a path or going onto one. It lessens the blow.

    • I'm 100kg without baggage and I find it fine for me. Some hills would be better with more torque but I'm able to reach max speed on flat pretty eazy.

Legal or not if you cut me off or near miss me while you're busy looking at your phone while riding then I'll be Sparta kicking you off your stupid toy.

What is it about eScooter posts that turns Victorians and New South Welshmen into Americans who think the world revolves around them? 😂

They're legal to a large percentage of the population. Instead of comnenting how they are illegal and questioning why it was posted, write a letter to your state MP asking to change the laws.

    • -2

So write a letter to your state MP asking then to ban them completely as pedestrians think they are dangerous?

      • Do whatever you want; it's a democracy after all haha

    • I believe it's more to do with the fact that NSW and VIC are the two states with highest population

  • Im seeing more and more on footpaths in VIC- not sure how many people are getting fined…?

    • +1

probably 1 out of 50 chances but you never know when is your turn…

    • They'll get more serious about it once someone gets killed and it's all over the media…

They are definitely booking people in the CBD when caught riding on the footpath.

      • Not sure what will happen in the next couple of years…maybe they will be legal on footpaths as long as the speed is below, say, 20km/h or something? I'd imagine most would rather they be on the oaths vs roads but probably depends on the location….

        • +2

maybe they will be legal on footpaths as long as the speed is below, say, 20km/h or something?

          No way…

How will an e-scooter stop in time if a young kids steps out onto the footpath from their house?

Would need to be walking speed for footpath use…

          • @jv: What's 'jogging' speed? I'd imagine that would be pretty safe…around 10km/h?

            • +1

              @JuryWheel:

I'd imagine that would be pretty safe…

Not if you run into a 4 year old kid at that speed….

              • +3

@jv: Well, if i was running and ran into a 4yr old, it also wouldnt be great (for either of us!). Same if i was carrying a heavy box and tripped and the box landed on top of a 4 year old. Not sure where you can draw the line….

                • @JuryWheel:

Well, if i was running and ran into a 4yr old, it also wouldnt be great (for either of us!).

Much easier to stop/swerve whilst jogging compared to riding an e-scooter.

Also the weight of the e-scooter+person, far exceeds the weight of just the person and can do far more damage.

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiI5KfsxOYg&t=65s

          • @jv: Educate your kids and be a responsible parent..supervise your brats…
If a kid is acting like a goose which I see on a daily basis well that says more about the parents

    • Not enough I imagine, I'm starting to see more on footpaths, and also clowns on personal and rental scooters on roads and bike lanes. In SA only the rentals are legal and only on footpaths, they also have to give way to pedestrians which is something people seem to really struggle with too.

  • Where does it say sale starts 10th March?

    • In the post description

      • Yeah i saw that, but that's just the op's notes, where is the official notes from JB?
How do we even know if it's going to happen, until it happens?

        • True, it may just be an elaborate prank…

          • @jv: my grandfather name was nostrodamus, i mean ninebotdamus

  • How is this one at Anaconda for $599? It seems to have a better suspension system

    https://www.anacondastores.com/cycling/bikes/reid-boost-esco…

    • Neither has any suspensions.
Reid - as a bike brand is very low quality comparing.
I'd stick with the ninebot anyday for extra $200

      • Forget the Reid. called the shop for parts.. they had no idea if any parts available.

  • Hi OP - how/where did you see it on sale from tomorrow? catalogue? Do you mind uploading pics of the catalogue to see what else is on sale? thanks heaps!

    • at the stroke of midnight youll see cinderella riding one

  • +1

This might be the way to go if fuel prices keep going up

    • If they become too popular state govt. will find a way to tax you riding them per km.

    • yes its very cheap on fuel

  • Not sure this news report really speller out what is and isn't allowed https://youtu.be/tiI5KfsxOYg

    • Too many idiots out there that can't follow rules, so there's no way Victoria will be rushing to legalise these things…

      • +1

You haven't driven on a freeway or road before in a daily commute? The road is full of idiots driving cars that are a lot more deadly than an escooter

        • They have Regos and can be identified

          • +1

@jv: Don't be a Karen…..thousands get away doing the wrong thing on motorways everyday…
Some people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about, cyclists regularly travel faster than e scooters, inline skates, skateboards, hoverboards, segways, heck I've had someone jogging run into me on a footpath
Hey it's better to be green than choking our planet with emissions…but you do you

            • @[Deactivated]:

..thousands get away doing the wrong thing on motorways everyday…

And people sometimes die because of it.

              • +1

@jv: Maybe you should just stay inside and continue to be scared of the real world …you know there's wars and covoid out there you should probably worry about more

                • @[Deactivated]:

continue to be scared of the real world

                  Nah….

and here I was thinking I'd never be able to afford an F40.

  • Does anyone know how it compares to the Xiaomi Mi M365 Electric Scooter Pro 2 I ordered one in December, still waiting for it! Thanks granite, may have the option to cancel and get this instead.

    • Can’t compare, but regardless, you’ll be happy with the Xiaomi.

  • +1
    • Not sure.
But it has more watts in the motor.
      But smaller wheel.
I'd go with the bigger wheel on the ninebot.

      • +1

xiaomi has more accessories and parts avaiable.. can just get 10 inch tyres put on the xiaomi.

  • I wish worked a scooters distance away from where i live :(

  • thanks for posting this. was keeping an eye out for the top f-series scooter since the christmas/nov deal. it's only slightly beefier than the aldi f20a (albeit far more expensive) but the range makes it wroth it.

goes without saying but you can save an extra $40 if you use discounted egift cards (in my case suncorp) — see ozb discounted eGift Cards page

  • Does the F40A have self healing (pre slime) tires as the Max 30P? F40A is advertised as anti puncture tires but not self healing as the Max. I had the Xiaomi M365 and M365 Pro and both had punctures and were a nightmare to change the tires so I sold both of them.
