Once you've had one of these, nothing else comes close.

    These things are amazing.
    Highly recommended.

Yep, I have both and they are great!

    • Can you elaborate?

      • I guess the only downsize is the size when packed, but if you are a car camper like me, and aren't walking too far to your campsite, these will give you as good a nights sleep as a normal bed (or better).

You can lie on the very edge, on your side, and you will be as elevated and cushioned as if you were in the centre. Also they are extremely warm (perhaps too warm), so they are great for winter.

  • Awesome!
Would you spend the extra and get the 15 or is 10 all you need?

    • I’ve slept on both. For me, and I’d say most healthy people, 10 is all you need. If you have bad hips / aches and pains 15 will suit you better. Both are pretty bulky.

    • I have the Exped DeepSleep 7.5 and when pumped firm I can't feel the ground when lying on my side. So I'd say 10 is good enough.

  • How are they different to something like this which I sleep on and find very comfy for 3-4 nights. At five times the price you'd certainly want to be able to justify it.

If you find the Dune 4WD mats very comfy, then there is no need to buy the Exped. I am a side sleeper and have used similar 4WD mats to the Dune, which isn't bonded, so there is a cushion of air when I sleep on it. It isn't as comfortable as you turn your body when you sleep as the air moves around. The support of the 4WD isn't as good as the inner foam just compresses easily and doesn't give a good support, or if you inflate more, the bubble of air just shifts your body around. Basically, sleeping on Exped Megamat is just like sleeping on my bed at home. I have tried many different self inflating mat, nothing comes close to the extreme comfort of the Exped Megamat. I did not know what I was missing until I bought the Exped Megamat.

      • Thanks for the response. Interesting. I'm also a side sleeper (90kgs) but I don't blow extra air into the mattress, I simply screw in the lug. So I've rarely experienced the air bubble phenomenon you mention. Do stores let you try these things? Since you can't return used items I'd be very hesitant outlaying this sort of $ unless I'd had a chance to try it for a night.

I think some stores will let you try it out first. However, i am not sure if you can take home to try for a night thought. Some may even have display ones that are inflated just to try. With the Exped Mats, there is a hand pump shaped as a cushion to allow for easy inflation. I hope you do get to try and experience the difference. The springyness of the mattress and support has made my sleep alot better during camping. The arm is well supported for side sleeping.

  • Hmm, I got the 7.5cm deep version (DeepSleep Mat) after waiting for this one to come on special but it never did.. now this one has come up, but I haven't had a chance to test the old one in anger, not sure if I should pre-emptively upgrade… now the big question is, how long until this one sells out?

    • I bought DeepSleep end of last year and I can tell you it's very comfy. Bought the pump as well because I like my mat firm and I can't feel the ground when lying on my side (I'm 56kg btw). My spouse is 90kg and he also said the mat was very comfortable for him. Have used the mats both during camping and at home, best camping mat I've had so far.

  • Bought one!

  • BTW OP, it would help to have the original price in the title.

    • Was $389.95 on their product page,
both colours (red & green) elibiglbe for discount

Last time these were on special from Snowys they were $230…

    • Yep, I would defaintly buy 2 if they came down to this price again. $315 isn't enough for me to purchase.

  • This vs Monstamat?

    • yeah would like to know this too for those who have tried, zempire monstamat at 200 vs this at 311, oh and there's a coleman bonded for even cheaper 179.

    • G'day snowl,
      Does this help?

      Cheers, Laine

    • When I was deciding between Exped and Monstamat, although there are only a few negative reviews for Monstamat almost all the them mentioned the same failure point i.e the valve came off (glue failure) and I think Monstamat only offered a token like $20 when out of warranty. Since we camp only once a year, the 2 years warranty only cover us for twice usage so I decided to get Exped DeepSleep instead.

    • I have an older version of the Monstamat, it's not bad if you're on a tight budget, but if you can afford it go straight to the Exped, you won't regret it.

@AncientWisdom I ended up pulling the trigger on the Exped. Ty :)

        • You're going to love it 🙂

I've been using a Clark Rubber mattress topper as a camp mat for years which has been great (it was actually my mattress for 1.5 years!), but is bulky and only a single.
This is much bigger, thicker, yet packs down smaller. Can't argue with that! I just ordered one now based on reviews. Excited to get it!

BTW if anyone wants my old mattress topper for free let me know. I'm in North Sydney

    Now selling for $239.95 @Snowys

    • $349 for the duo is also a good deal

    • Couldn't resist, grabbed one…

Tentworld has dropped their price to match snowys

  • I am in the market for a single self-inflating mattress. I am very interested in Exped because of their consistent positive review. Can I ask if Dune 4WD Mat Grey Single (currently $55 at Anaconda) is not in the same league as Exped even though both of them are self-inflating? The price differs much.

    • +1

      Wrong universe let alone league

      • So, they are made of material of different qualities … or more the technology are totally different? From reading the description, both are foam-based mattress with air to make it firmer?

        • +2

I had an Anaconda Dune brand 4wd mat.
It delaminated and bubbled up very shortly after I got it.
Sent back and got a refund. (Which also meant I missed out on cashback being approved on the rest of my order)
Have an Exped Megamat 10 LXW. Paid $230 back when I bought it.
It's super comfortable and well, just so much better.

Just bought the double, at $349 also.

Try the Dune, or, just go straight to the Exped.
