Warranty for Razer Keyboard Bought on eBay (razer_au)

EDIT: @Hybroid has seriously helped me out here and validated that the razer_au store is in fact, the Official Razer Store for Australia. See the comments for the details. Thank you so much!

Hey guys,

Boy am I in a pickle now… I usually pick up on scams pretty quickly but man, now I realised I'm in a really awkward one.

In May 2021, I purchased a BlackWidow Pro V3 from eBay seller razer_au, who, from the branding as well as their user name, made me think it was the official Razer eBay store. Well, so my volume wheel has been broken for a while like a number of other people with Razer keyboards, I figured it was about time for me to open an RMA and potentially get a new keyboard.

Well, little did I know, not only is razer_au not the official Razer store, they may not even be an authorised Razer reseller, even though they have it plastered on every single listing that they have!

Now I have a couple of routes I tried:

  1. I made contact with razer_au, and I was met with a reply of:
Sure thing, send your keyboard back to PO BOX xxx and we'll send you a new one. — this sound ridiculously dodgy. I've actually had a similar reply before and after sending back the item, the seller ghosted me and I lost both the product and my money.

  2. I made contact with eBay — they told me they can't help because it's already past 30 days since my purchase. I already knew that would have been the reply since they'd want absolutely nothing to do with this as they've already received their cut of the transaction (from fees) and now it's not their problem.

  3. I made contact with Razer (support.razer.com) — they've said, you need to provide a proof of purchase from an authorised reseller, eBay order details is not a proof of purchase. Seems like someone else also had this issue too.

Although this issue is not a deal breaker as they keyboard itself is still fine, it's just the volume wheel doesn't work which I can live without, I'm kind of p'eed of because this is a pretty expensive keyboard and I'm not even able to fully utilise this, not to mention I literally got scammed and this doesn't even have any type of warranty. Not to mention, razer_au deals are constantly advertised on OzBargain so I'm not even sure that the majority of people are aware of this.

Should I just send it back to that random PO BOX and pray for the best? Lol.

I'll lay odds you'll never see the keyboard or hear from them again if you do.

That's the problem buying things through eBay, you never know if it's a genuine article or if the seller is an authorised seller.

    • Yeah that's what happened to me a couple years ago, and hence I'm skeptical to do this again.

    • Yep yep

Have been posting since 2020, and have been part of eBay's coupon sales many times over

Yeah this is why it's crazy… Even you'd think it is, right?

But this official article pretty much debunks it completely:

Razer currently has no authorized resellers on Ebay or any other online auction sites.

  • I've got the same issue with my BlackWidow Pro V3. What I've done in the meantime is remap the previous and next track buttons near the wheel to handle volume up and down instead. The issue is that this will happen again, even with a replacement.

    • Yeah, it's something I can live with but man, the bigger picture is if something more major dies on me, there's no warranty :(

Numerous accounts online, on here and on reddit etc of the store being legit as well

    Stress less

  • fwiw if you paid with paypal you might be eligible for postage costs covered.

    • Yeah, I'm aware, that's if I do decide to send it off. Still tossing up whether I'll be doing that since it's an issue I can live with but if I end up losing the whole keyboard and getting ghosted, well, that's a completely different story.

It's been confirmed it's the official store. You contacted them through the official store and they replied how to sort it. Send it off with a copy of the purchase on the inside of the box and a description of the problem if they haven't given you an RMA number. Get your PayPal postage back if you have previously activated that.

Sit in a corner in a cold sweat for a couple of weeks fearing an official store that has been around for years is just waiting until this very moment to run away with your dodgy keyboard and shut down their entire operation.

  • When I had a problem with my Razer keyboard they said I could send a photo of the back of the keyboard with serial number shown and USB cable cut and they will send me out the next model up.
