Booking.com - 15% Cashback @ ShopBack

330

Noticed this in the app, starts tomorrow at 9am.
Highest rate ever @ 15% (not the first time though).

Yes, some people seem to find pricing more expensive when clicking through ShopBack etc, but I've never personally experienced it.

Just compared Shopback price with incognito and prices are the same. Also tried with a VPN and a different browser and get the same price.

Booking seems to be not dodgy. AGODA on the other hand I won't be using again.

Take a screenshot of the prices today and then check tomorrow when going through SB. I can guarantee there will be a 15% increase tomorrow.

    • That's not a fair comparison. Hotel prices change regularly and sometimes rapidly.
What is fair is to check with & without SB at the same time.

I doubt Booking.com will universally increase the price of every hotel by 15% for everybody. SB would be a small proportion of their customers.

The shopback referral sometimes increase the price, but at least make it a fair comparison. I've seen it occur, but it is rare for me.

    • Out of interest I did this on a room we wish to stay at later in the year for a couple of nights.
      Sunday $411
      Today $446

Not quite 15% but a significant price increase.

Banner should read: Tomorrow 15% more Booking.com via Shopback

Whilst some hotels do inflate prices for these increased cashbacks there are many hotels that do not. When booking, do your due diligence to locate the hotels that have not increased their prices and bag a great 15/17% cashback saving.

Agoda was 17% yesterday which can be double dipped with platinum status tier.
Booking.com is 15% tomorrow which can also be combined with Genius Level 3.

To slam these sites for broadly increasing prices is incorrect.

It's not just price increases using cashback sites. I've found that hotels which were available before using cashback sites aren't available upon activating the link which is dodgy af.

Eg only 1 property available using Cashrewards activated link and 20 available when using incognito browser.

      • That's why people need to shop around to locate hotels where the price hasn't changed. Maybe only a limited number of rooms are available when using cashback through these sites. I'm sure the hotels don't want to get filled up with people claiming 15 / 17% on their bookings.

Can still find plenty of 4 and 5-star hotels that are not increased.

I just booked 5 nights in Brisbane yesterday using the 17% Agoda cashback. No difference in price between incognito and ShopBack for the hotel I booked and in fact was cheaper than Booking.com and Trip.com due to VIP status with Agoda. However, some other hotels had increased by $100s for the same 5 days through Shopback.

I'm not supporting these cashback sites but just highlighting that great deals can still be found with a little research.

That's not how a cashback site should work. If you clicked via a cashback site to do retail shopping online and 90% of items that you were looking for either weren't available or prices were increased, you can't just say, oh you should have done your due diligence and check each item out individually. That's BS. There's no excuses for that in that scenario, why should there be one for this scenario?

People shouldn't have to look around.
I don't know why these booking company's do this in Australia, it's only a matter of time before the ACCC investigate again.

Anyone remember the penalty's from last time they were looked into?

  • Hi there, I bought over $200 worth products at Myer yesterday when you had the flash sale 17% Cashback. When is this getting tracked? There’s nothing to see yet! Cheers!

Best to go through shopback support. No shopback reps in this deal.

      According to
      https://www.shopback.com.au/myer

It should track within 2 days. So I wouldn't worry.. yet.

  • Make sure you also try via their app because the prices are often different between web and app - at least for me.

    • Checked my app, even it says mobile only price. It is the same on the web. I can't see any difference.

  • Booking.com are scum, wouldn’t refund a lousy 1 night booking for a funeral that was cancelled cause the M1 was flooded 10 days ago.

    • Expedia is still best!

A booking that without a doubt was listed as non refundable.

I booked a few hotels recently like this and made extensive notes about hotel prices on the days before to check if the prices went up. I was very happy to find nothing changed at all and the prices were exactly the same. I don’t think enough people use ShopBack that they need to orchestrate a scam where they raise prices just catch out the odd person that uses a cash back site. Gazillions of people use Booking.com daily. If you ask around, very few people would even of thought about using Shopback to save a few bucks. Most wouldn’t even know what you’re talking about.

I was so happy with what I found last time, I’ll just book away tomorrow and not worry.

  • If we use our stays NSW voucher when paying at the hotel. Would the cashback be voided?

  • Do we have to select the "Pay now" option for Shopback to register the transaction, or can we select "Pay at the property" on check-in day?

EDIT: Just checked with Shopback support, selecting "Pay at the property" option is also accepted, as Shopback will validate the purchase and stay after check out

  • Anyone know car rental included in cashback? Or just hotels.

  • awesome. the 15% cashback was a nice bonus for the stupidly cheap apartment (100+ >4 star reviews) during upcoming school holidays.

    thanks for posting

  • Prices were cheaper to book through the app - hate it when they raise the cost when you click through from shopback

  • So annoyed with Shopback!! Prices have risen today by 15%! No deal whatsoever
