Nicest colour. Not a fan of the arch support on thos. Definitely try it but just know the arch is very prominent

    • +2

You do get used to it pretty fast.

The whole boot generally takes a few weeks to wear in anyway

      • Tried on a bunch of RM's in store a few months ago. Couldn't find a Dynamic Flex that would fit my remarkably-normal feet.

10.5G's in Comfort Craftsman's fit perfectly. Every size of Dynamic Flex I tried would either rub horribly on the heel, were too long and my foot dragged, or were too wide and my foot swam. As such, definitely worth trying a few pairs on in store before you buy online.

I agree that the arch support is comfortable, though

      • I own two comfort craftsman. 1 Tanbark kangaroo and dark tan standard.
Both of these shoes are super comfortable.
The dynamic flex would never work for me. My foot is flatter and thus the arch support is actually a hindrance. Hence why I tell people to try it on first

  • +1

Highly recommend these boots for the winter!

with the advent of WFH, do we need to buy these expensive shoes to show off to people we dont like, anymore?

    • +7

I was thinking that this morning! I pulled out a shirt and thought, why do I have so many of these? Clothes in general. I could donate 90% of my wardrobe and just use 1 or 2 shirts and a pair of shoes the one day I go into the office every month or two, and it wouldnt change a thing

    • +6

      These last 10 years+

Not a short term boot lol.

      • The elastic in mine has gone saggy after eight years. To get new elastics is very expensive. I'm wondering if I should just throw them in the back of the cupboard and get a cheaper brand for the price of getting the elastic repaired or just pay to get them repaired?

        • How much $ for elastic replacement?

          • +1

            @gakko: Between $120 and $150

            • +2

@scottishdave: I'd replace the elastic. Cheaper, brings the boot back to good nic, good for the environment.

Anything RM william = exy but its cooler to have the same boot for so long. Not that I own any.

        • +1

Getting them serviced basically brings them back to being a new boot so you'll get another 8 years out of them.

        • The leather will still be way better than what you’ll get with a cheap brand. It’s worth fixing them, especially considering that’s the option that’s better for the environment.

        • +3

If you buy a cheap pair, you might find that the elastic goes after a year. 8 years for the elastic to go is incredible!

        • Since I got my first pair of RMs at twenty I have been rewarding myself with a new pair every decade. One year away from my fifth pair.
Comfort craftsman dynamic flex are my favs, particularly as you don’t have to take them off when walking through airport security.

        • your local cobbler will probably do it cheaper, mine quoted $60

    • -1

Definitely don't need to get anything so durable. I've got a couple of nice looking pairs of Rivers boots, I know they're not going to last like a pair of RMs but given I am going into the office less than once a month they will do me. I'm more likely to be wearing my Redback steel caps in the backyard at lunch than being seen on the town in a pair of RMs.

    • +1

Boots are sexy, you don't have to show it to other people, you can put them on and admire yourself in the mirror and feel good about yourself. :)

      • +2

RMs don’t come in six inch pumps.

    • it sick it piss

    • WFH …? back at work for ages now.

  • +1

Any decent cash rewards to go with it?

  • R.M. WILLIAMS Dynamic Flex Craftsman comes up for 595 and Not 399

    • +2

      Only dark tan is $399.

  • Been hunting down a pair of Burnished Balmoral but they never seem to be on sale, nor carried by other outlets. Iconic only has then in black.

  • Rickaby's are good, I've had a pair in brown for a couple of years now

  • +1

You don't see heels like that much nowadays.

    • +1

Not on fashion boots maybe, but any riding boots will.
need them to stay in place in your stirrups

    • +1

      You can still find 'em

  • Bought a pair. Hopefully fits!

    Dynamic Flex soles fu&*ing suck

      • -1

I've got about 5 pairs of RMs currently, I got my first pair around 15 years ago - one leather sole, two rubber and two comfort flex. I would not buy comfort flex again, the soles breakdown much faster in my experience. One of my pairs broke in half twice and were repaired by RM. They are pretty comfy, but so are most RMs.

If you want a durable sole that's comfortable and better with wet weather, get the rubber sole - its the pick of the bunch in my experience.

Or you know, you can listen to the randoms who negged me or the bloke above who linked you to a website trying to sell you something.

        • +3

Not sure how to read your response it seems like you're confusing comfort and dynamic flex as "comfort flex"

But then you say the rubber sole is the best - which to my understanding is the "comfort craftsman" which you earlier said was no good and broke down early.

Keen to hear your feedback as you seem well versed in RMs, thanks for your help

          • +2

@Gonltruck: Yes you are correct - i've confused the two terms. Please read 'comfort flex' as 'dynamic flex'.

Comfort - the rubber soles - are great, they wear well all around and are much more durable and cope with wet weather much much better.

Dynamic flex - the hybrid soles - great concept, very comfortable and you can swap the inserts for something that fits you better if you need to - which was the main reason I ventured into them originally, however, I've found that the soles are weaker and prone to breakage

Leather - the OG sole - I love a leather sole but they honestly just aren't as practical, they take more to maintain and are more prone to wear, you'd think that office workers might be fine with this sort of set up but they can also be slippery as hell on wet tiles or concrete, even some carpets unless they've got some decent scuffing on the soles.

Get what you like, but if you can only afford one pair, get rubber soles.

  • +2

One day I will be able to afford this

    • that's what i keep saying but inflation and wage stagnation says no

  • +2

only if these were available in H width dam

    • Well, we both saved money because there was no H width shoes!

    • I was told in RM Williams store my size is 7H, and this is not available. However there is a 7.5G available. Do you reckon this may fit me.

      • +2

No, its going to be too narrow. If youre going to drop $400+ on boots you want them to fit like a glove….or like a boot.

    • +4

Yes, you won't find a new pair under $350

    • +1

If you click on the About Us section, poorly written format and who calls a store brand “Online Store”

Also with the constant pop up message saying someone just recently bought a product, 99% of the time is a dodgy company

I reckon you shouldn’t post the link on here jic if some ppl accidentally fall for their trap

  • Deal available in DJs stores? Need to try on for size.

    • 100%

I’m a usual 10.5US and in RM sizing, they advised for 8G

    • You can always buy first then return to DJs if they don't fit

Doesn't matter anyway, all but one size are sold out

  • Ye I wouldn't be spending that money without trying them on first.

  • Where do people get these resoled ? Melb based

    • +2

Personally I would go to RM Williams direct. They can do full service including reshaping the leather upper, new elastic sides if needed. It's probably half way to the cost of a new boot but worth it if you wear them every day

    • +1

rm williams, or any shoe cobbler.

  • IMO if you're buying to wear to an office there are more impressive GYW shoes at the same price point.

    • Definitely keen to hear if you have some good options available in Aus or at least shippable without crazy import costs at the moement. Just recommended brands would be fine no need to link styles etc.

      • Loake 1880 are probably the easiest to find in Aus. The Iconic stocks Church's and has stocked Trickers in the past. You'll have to look around but it's worth it IMO to look like you're able to dress yourself without looking at the guy next to you.

    • +3

but how will they know of my addiction to grant PACKETS, 3 days benders, far out left field 10 leg multis (that always fail coincidentally on last leg) and kfc zinger boxes?

    • +1

I find any leather shoe made in Portugal and on sale is a great ozbargain option. Usually end up around the $200-250 range and the quality is significantly better than the made in china crap you get sub $200 these days.

      • Yeah I was also going to suggest Meermin

        • I'm pretty sure Meermin is Chinese-made.

          • @Surefire: Aren't they partly assembled in China (by a team instructed by the owner) then finished in Spain?

    • -1

Can’t imagine anything else being as comfortable as RMW.

  • +1

i really dislike the Dynamic Flex line, unless you have orthopaedic insoles that you need to use. these are always on sale because most people don't use it. i guess you can't afford it and want to get into rm williams, i guess this would be good to buy. i always say, buy once, cry once. get the one you want, and you don't have to buy twice. which actually comes out more expensive.

i love the comfort craftsman, i went to the rm williams at the QVB in Sydney and tried on a pair to see what the hype was about. no i understand, they are amazing, and i highly recommend you get fitted properly at the store. its different for everyone.

    • +2

Personally I just found them a better fit for my foot type which also provided a softer feel while walking.

As mentioned above don't buy without trying them on first. Once you know they are good then just purchase at the next similar deal (I got my black and brown pairs both from DJs in seperate sales).

  • +2

    looks like it's dead?

  • +2

Sad that online retailers like Allington's can't sell RM Williams anymore. I need H width and most retailers don't sell it.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure they still sell them - just not online, give them a call and you might be able to work something out I imagine.

    • The Iconic sells RMs in H sizings (wide fit)

  • -5

Nice boots, do they make them in mens?

  • They refunded me and cancelled my order :(

  • Laughing side boots are always good.. just be nice if the wide sizes were on sale !

  • I highly recommend getting fitted with your size in a store, that way you know what you need to buy when they go on sale.

RM stores will even give you a little card with name and size written on it.

  • Deal is no longer available for me

  • Is be interested to know if anyone ever actually paid $595. It would not be a criticism cause they are unbelievably good boots just ascertaining whether this is a good deal.
