OzBargain QLD Solar Feed in Tariff (FiT) tracking

So the fantastic deal posted by CrocDundee here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538080 has been marked as expired so we are no longer able to discuss the best Feed in Tariff available.

This thread is for people to monitor and discuss what they find in achieving the best possible plan for their power needs, specifically in relation to solar feed in tariffs.

This thread is in specific relation to plans available in Queensland, as per the original deal linked above.
While some may be available in other states, this isn't always the case.

Note that if you don't export a large amount of power, that having a large FiT with higher usages fees might not be the best deal for you.

I will continue to update this main post with any information people find useful, however the latest actually deal should be found within the comments.

I signed up to Engie via wattever, for a $50 Prezzee card (from Engine, after 1 month send bill), and $100 welcome credit from Engie on some low rates (approx 87c daily, 29c single rate). I have 5kw solar and don't produce much, so a 5.5c FIT suits me

    • That's a great supply charge.

    • Same here, signed up last Saturday and just had a look today and it’s increased a lot! $1.25 supply charge, 35c single rate now

      • Yeah! The 26% discount on saver plan is now 13% but other rates changed too.
Engie has very confusing plans and website which doesn't help!

        • I just calles origin and they said they only have 8c FIT capped 7kw per day which is the best offer now. Am I able to reach out to Guru still?

  • I have come accross Globird VPP Plan. THis is good if you have a battery to connect to VPP, and EVs (i have 2)

Basic summary is below. You get free power between 11AM and 2PM (I can use 60-80kWh in this time between the 2 EVs, the Pool heater, hot water etc & 3 ph power.. however realistly it will average out to maybe 30-40KWH a day over the month). You get $1 credit if you dont use power between 5-7PM, you still get 4c FIT most of the time, and can get 15c FIT if you export between 5-7PM. Also they give you 1$/kWh during peak export which is maybe once a month..

Shoulder rate is 28c but i dont typically touch the grid.

If i leave origin, i lose the 8c EV charge plan which i do at night so means i can export at 12c during the day right now, so if i go to engie for the FIT, i will have to use my solar to charge my car & esentially pay 10c to charge my car.

As i said, very specific scenario, but i will hopefully remain in credit while powering all my items. I will sign up for this when my plan expires with origin. Hopefully guru comes through and calls me to offer 12c uncapped again <3

Plus there is a 50$ referal with Globird.

    Globird
    Daily Charge $1.34
    Peak Usage $0.43
    Off Peak Usage $-
    Should Usage $0.29
    FIT -$0.04
    Super Export -$0.15
    ZeroHero -$1.00

  • +1

My plan will expire next month, is the 12c uncapped FIT plan still available?

    • Nope. Have a read through the previous page.

    • +3

The 12c uncapped FIT plan is still available. I just received a call from the retention team — they offered me either 10c uncapped with a 10% discount, or 12c uncapped.
However, I believe your PV system must be below 10kW (mine is 6.6kW).

      • That’s good know. My system is larger, so I’m going to move soon.

        • +1

But they only know the solar system size if you tell them. If you forget or have moved into a house and not really sure what you have, then it could very well be below 10kw

          • +1

@leeroys_dad: I spoke to Guru, when he looked at my account he said he can see i exported alot previously, so I am not eligible. So i would say there is a critera on how much you have exported previously to if they offer again.

Having said that, he can still offer discounted electrcity rates with 4c FIT (6 for the first 9kwh)

            • @massari: Damn

              • @leeroys_dad: Based on massari's experience do you think it is possible for us to give you our contact details again for guru to contact us for the offer or any other similar offer? Thank you.

            • +1

@massari: How much is a lot?

              • +1

@JIMB0: I have 15KW inverter with 22KW panels. In the summer i usually export 1000-1500kWh per month.

In 2023 i had 16,000kWh FIT, 11,200 kWh in 2024 (pool got installed, so had more usage during the day inc pump, heater).

The good old days are over i think. I have 2 EVs now, so the best plan for me is the Globird plan, as I have batteries to not pay any peak usage, and can charge both cars from 11-2 for free. The net is generaly no electricity bill each day. Globird pay you 1$ credit for not using power between 5-7PM.

If i had no EVs to charge at home, I would go Engie for the 10C uncapped, but then i would be charging my car for 10c. When i was with origin, i would charge for 8c, and export at 12c so actually made money…

    Hi all,

FYI - I just managed to get 10c FIT uncapped ($1.24223 daily supply charge and $0.30558/kWh usage) through the retentions team at origin.

Until I actually asked for the 10c uncapped that I had seen posted elsewhere they were only offering up fairly standard rates. Surprised that I was able to get this as I've got a decently big system (exported 13.5MWh last year and only imported 2.8).

This thread has saved us a whole load of money over the years!

    • Congrats

    • Great to hear I will have to give them a call :)

  • +5

Can confirm that 10c FIT Uncapped and 10% off usage/supply is available. I called the retention's team and was able to access the plan.

EDIT: I had recently transferred to Red Energy (about 2 months ago) and called Origin to see what they could offer. So I'm not sure if you need to be with another provider to access the offer - doesn't hurt to call and ask.

    • Do you know if the 8c FIT and 21% off usage/supply is still available?
Last time I called they could only offer 6c FIT and 21% off.

      • They didn't say that one. I just asked for the best uncapped FIT plan they could offer. I asked if they could do 12c FIT without the 10% discount and the rep said no.

    • +2

Just got the 10% and 10c uncapped while still with origin. The guy said it was up to the individual and you won't always get it by calling but they've just extended it without having to churn.

He did say there will be a price increase of course 1st of July. He said he doesn't expect it to be as crazy as it has been but won't know until then.

    • Can you pm the retention team's contact number please?

  • +1

Thanks everyone Guru contacted me and I was able to get 10c uncapped. Mixed with the vpp and EV plan in happy

    • I feel like I got stitched up with a lesser plan when the retention team called me back. I might have to call and get them to get me onto the 10c uncapped as well

      • +1

I got 8c capped when I did mine a few months ago said its the best they had.

      • +1

Remember there is Engie which is 10C uncapped with few other benifits if you have an EV (but can also get it without an EV, just say you have one).

I was never offered 8C uncapped, they said they couldnt do anything. Worth trying again though 10C is better than other offers.

    • How to get this Origin 10c uncapped offer?

      • Sounds like you just need to call? Read the replies above. Goodluck!

  • Do I need to switch to another provider to get this 10c offer?

    • From past history in this thread, yes.

  • Just switched to AGL and hoping to get a call from Guru.

    • Send multiple emails to them asking for guru to call you with your details. It should eventually get to him

    • No need, call this number 1800 557 700 and ask for the 10c FIT Uncapped + 10% off Plan - maybe even try your luck with 12c FIT Uncapped.

      • Been calling that number but the best they are offering for my Queensland address is 10c capped at 8 kWh.

        • Same thing happened when I called today. Seems like the party is over. I might jump over to engie and give them a go

        • +1

make sure you are speaking to the retention's team. Only they will have access to the plan. A normal sales rep has capped plans - nothing uncapped.

          • @CrocDundee: How do I do that? Do I ask them to transfer me to retentions?

            • @Nuggets: I always ask if I am speaking with someone in the retention's team. The lady I spoke to when I got the 10c FIT Uncapped said she could access the Retention's team offers/deals so was able to put me on the plan. However, if you get a normal sales rep, just ask to be transferred (they'll probably say they can't). So just be polite, hang up, and try again until you get someone in that team.

    • I switched over a month ago and still no call. I think I'll stick with AGL for winter as they give 10c per kWh for the first 10 kWh. With the reverse cycle ac heating the house 24/7 I don't export much more than that, plus the supply charge and consumption rates are much lower.

      • I didn't see the 10c FIT plan, could you tell me which one is it?

        • Solar Savers. Looks like it's down to 8c now. I'm in Victoria, so maybe it's not available in Queensland.

  • Finally managed to speak to Guru who offered me the 10c FIT uncapped with 10% off plan.

    • did you call through? I still havent gotten through tried few days in row

      • +1

I think they switched to AGL first

  • +2

Is Leeroys_dad still active on here? Trying to set up a Guru call! :)

    • +1

Keen to know this too. I just churned to CovaU today (5.5c FiT uncapped) but would obviously prefer the Origin 10c FiT uncapped plan.

  • Wow I only just discovered this thread - I feel like I need to chat to Guru just for a friendly chat not related to energy.

Seriously though, I've tried to comprehend the last few pages. It seems this is all from people being with Origin and churning out, then talking to Origin retentions yeah?

  • That was the retention offer I got recently (not from Guru), declined as it worked out cheaper elsewhere.

Supply Charge 109.043 cents per day
    ALLDAY
    26.829 cents per kWh

    Solar Supply Charge
    9.567 cents per day

    Feed in
on first 8 kWh per day - 6 cents per kWh
Therafter - 4 cents per kWh

    All rates are including GST

    • This was the offer I took. I believe it's 21% off usage and supply for 6 c FIT. However the prices are increasing in August.
Whuch offer did you take that was cheaper?

    • Where did you end up going
      ?

      • +1

Risked it with Ampol Energy when they still accepted sign-ups knowing they got acquired by AGL. Will see what happens.

        • Oh I transitioned out of Ampol after seeing they got acquired haha AGL has the worst deals and don’t negotiate so I didn’t want to be roped in.

  • I was another one of the fortunate ones who was able to get 10c FIT uncapped from Origin. Sadly this plan is only offered on a very limited basis so you just have to keep calling the retention team regularly till you are successful

    • Did you have to switch provider to get the deal?

  • +1

    Yes you do

  • +2

Spoke to Origin retention team as my current plan with 12c uncapped FIT is expiring.

I was informed that uncapped FIT is no longer available at this point.

Best i was offered is 10% discount on the general usage and daily supply charge plus 10c FIT up to 8 kWh per day, then 3c:

    General Usage (inc GST): $0.31724
    Daily Supply (inc GST): $1.28579
FIT: 10c up to 8 kWh per day, then 3c

I guess i will settle with this for now, and try again if origin introduces uncapped FIT in the future.

    • Those seem to be good rates, will need to ring Origin again as the best they would offer me was a 7% discount.

  • Did you have to leave first?

  • Guru tells me 10c FIT uncapped IS NO LONGER around. As Summoner pointed out, best offered:

    General Usage (inc GST): $0.31724
    Daily Supply (inc GST): $1.28579
FIT: 10c up to 8 kWh per day, then 3c

    Prices inc 10% discount

    • +1

Damn that’s disappointing- thanks for the info mate

  • +1

    Bugger!

So now the maximum of the "real" FIT is only 80 cents per day?
Meaning to just cover the daily charge we need to export/give them another 17 kWh?
That is a total of 27 kWh just to break even on the daily charge…..

This will require a minimum of 5 hours of sunshine per day at the Qld maximum allowable 5 kW export limit for a single phase (plus any house load plus any battery charging) to only just cover the supply charge.

    Yikes!
    (runs extension leads to neighbours)

    • +1

Yep, I’ve got a battery on order to hopefully use the least amount of grid as possible. Home assistant waiting in the wings to automate as much as possible

      • Is this the best offer out now? Seems engie 10c uncapped is not available anymore?

        • @massari, you're right! Engie's unlimited 10c FIT is a distant memory..

      • +1

Very interested to learn what you've done! Assume haos, sig stack and amber?
I'm starting my research and tinkering. Probably run it on n100 rather than a VM as a mission critical device 😀

        • Close! Got the sig stack and hybrid inverter (hopefully) next month. I’m running HA through docker, getting a feel for the platform and then looking at what I want to do after feeling like I have a stable full home setup. Currently got the ev, hot water and pool pump working around tolerance levels from the fronius. Got the N150 in one of the recent deals so it’s running the show. Mission critical indeed. Amber is a beast I’m looking to tackle once I’ve got my head around the AEMO API. Not a lot of room for error with the charge variability so I’m prob going to beg borrow and steal from GitHub as best as I can

    • +1

Yep Marty, we are being screwed now and the only way I see any reprieve is to avoid pulling from grid during peak usage periods

  • All good things come to an end!! My 12c unlimited fit is coming to an end last week of this month :(

So current rates are Daily supply $ 1.42868 , general usage is 0.35244 cents. New plans are offering same price with 8c for first 8 kwh.

I see AGL offering with $100 gift card with first 8 kwh for 8 cents similar to origin and few cents cheaper supply and usage charges.

Generally my export is higher than my consumption. Battery i have to enquire how much it cost for 10 or 20 kw system.

Retention team won't call unless moved out but are there any other better offers from other providers?

If no better offers may be switch energy provider every quarter for welcome credit. Do switching frequently energy provider will any impact?

  • Hi All,

I've spoken with Guru before and was hoping someone can get me in contact with him again, let me know what I need to provide

  • +2

Got contacted by origin retention after I moved to dodo power.

    Better plan is:
    Supply 1.12
    Usage 27.84
    Feedin 3c
$200 credit applied after 30 and 60 days.

Also got a small extra discount on nbn plan
    $82 for 500/50 for 12 months.

This is flat rate in brisbane

    • This is good to know, thanks for the update. My plan expires in a month with origin, so will wait for a call after I switch out

    • That sounds like a good deal.

I'm on this plan right now, so I was thinking about switching:

      General Usage (inc GST): $0.31724
      Daily Supply (inc GST): $1.28579
FIT: 10c up to 8 kWh per day, then 3c

But, when I had Gemini figure out the difference using my last two years of data, the cost was pretty much the same (the new plan is about $4 cheaper).

I'll probably still call them to see if they'll let me switch to your plan, but otherwise, it's not worth it to change providers for me yet.

    • Stalker878 can you elaborate on what the name of the plan is (doesn't seem to be Origin Solar Boost with the low feed in).
If you know what control load rate is please let us know too.
It's pretty tempting with $200 credit!

    • Probably not much help to anyone given Ampol has sold to AGL but my plan that I am on now is better than that. Minus the credit.

      Supply 0.94
      Usage flat rate 26.18
      Fit 5c

  • Switched to Engie ev tou plan for uncapped 10c feed from origin. I prefer single rate plan.

Above origin offers seems good. will the retention team give us call after switching or do we call them.. Switched on last wednesday..

Based on engie cooling off period is 10 business days.. so it means it doesn't include weekends & public holidays.

    • You should receive a phone call from Origin's retention team.

If you don't receive a call from them, you might try calling Origin on their main number and explain your situation. I did so last time. They first transferred me to their billing department, who arranged a call back from their retention team. Not sure if this is a standard approach, though.

Did not know unlimited plans were available. What are the rates with uncapped 10c FIT?
Oh. I missed the TOU part. I prefer single rate as well.
