  • No knob on the top so doesn't look like it has a laser

    • In photos it looks like it does at the front. Seems the laser can pop up when it’s on.
      Unless that’s some other sensor.

      • No laser, just checked the manual. Has a sensor for cliff detection, one to dock with the charging dock and there's an optimal accessory to set virtual walls. So yeah no laser or mapping

        • What would that pop up sensor thing be for, to find the charging dock? They seemed to have over engineered that part.
I wondered about the laser as no pics or text about mapping.

@PVA: No idea. No laser or mapping, I'm automatically not interested haha. Cos it will be a dumb robot that knocks itself into things instead of intelligently doing things

Only good ones with a laser would be say Viomi or Ecovacs that ALDI sells on special buys. No way it would be a decent Roomba.

I'm happy with my S5 Max that I got at 550 bucks but if it threw the towel in, I'd have a look around cos Roborock has jacked their prices in the last couple of years :(

            • @adrianhughes1998: I bought an Aldi Ecovac a year ago, it’s been a great vac, does all downstairs 1am every second night.
Only issue is it gets stuck on our lounge rug (2 inch long pile) so have mapped that out.
Thinking to buy another robot for upstairs bedrooms, bathrooms.
I know you can map multiple floors but means I need to move the dock each time and that’s tucked under a cupboard (robot bases under cupboard out of site)
Might see if Aldi has some of the new ones still.

Be careful with roomba's from now on.

Some roomba's are forcing users to pay for a subscription service for their roomba to actually work…

Really? that sucks (no pun intended).

    • Nice work on the FUD.

And it's the Roomba I7, I7+, J7 and J7+ "iRobot Select" models that have a subscription service - NOT the entry-level machines.

As for "forcing users" - it's a choice as to whether or not to buy outright or with Select (see https://select.irobot.com)

      • Thanks.

Seems like it’s just a consumable (filters etc) subscription and you dont need to do it. Vac will work fine without it.

Not correct either. They sell the "Select" devices at a significantly lower price (or even free) and you have to have an active subscription for them to work.

          • @[Deactivated]: The info said that you get consumables sent (as well as a replacement vac every x years)

Dreame D9 is $373 (15% off at checkout) + delivery or free with Kogan first

    • Thanks for that. 15% off the D9 was enough for me to take the punt. Good specs for the $373 price.

You can get Viomi V2 PRO and V3 for less on Ebay, I don't know if this one is better?

Aldi has (maybe still in store) Ecovac Deebot Neo for $399.
We bought the model Aldi sold previously and it’s been great. The one they have now seems exactly the same but I think you can now have the option of buying an auto bin accessory (we wouldn’t want that as the vac parks under the tv cabinet and is all hidden when not in use)

Budget Roombas are meant to be pretty crap in terms or obstacle detection and tracking still right? For this price range better an alternative? Would've said Roborock but looks like they're no longer that cheap.

    Wouldn't buy this for $10

Absolute garbage, gets stuck constantly, barely works in darker houses or on darker carpets.

Had to fight for weeks to return it to HN under ACL as none of this was mentioned.

Buy a roborock or something with good detection.

No Lidar, no VSLAM, no mapping - hard pass. Dreame & Viomi offer much better value at this price point.

Thanks, been looking for a robot vacuum that doesn't share my house plan with xinnie
