Foxtel Now Ultimate $49/Month (Normally $104) for 12 Months @ Foxtel | Foxtel Now Box $30 + Shipping (Free with First) @ Kogan

350

Toofa on currently, not sure if it's just Foxtel in it's death throws but currently really good value (for Foxtel at least)

For me I've missed the History channel bad since I kicked Foxtel to the curb years ago, plus it's Footy season!!!!

Foxtel Go streaming Ultimate package (every channel) is currently $49 a month for 12 months, they have some other package specials on but none are worth getting

Im getting a Foxtel Go login error on my Nvidia shield because I've had a Go trial account registered on the shield before when I had Foxtel previously. Can't use a box you have used before on the same Foxtel account (oh Foxtel) so I started looking around for alternative's.

Koogan and Dick Smith curreltly have the Foxtel Now Box (Netflix Compatible) (C027) for $29.99 plus shipping

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/foxtel-now-box-netflix-compatib…
$29.99

I had a dig online and this box is remarkable value @ $29

It's Android TV OS with Play store not cheapie Android box, also has a built in DVB tuner for free to Air stations

You need a Foxtel go account (and a google account) to setup but after this can be used as a Android TV/DVBtuner box without foxtel account

Foxtel Go allows up to 2 simultaneous devices (so I bought 2 of the Go boxes)

Foxtel fine print: Foxtel Now standard monthly pricing applies at the end of the 12 month offer period (currently: $55/mth for Movies Plus; $64/mth for Sports Plus; $84/mth for Sports + Movies; $104/mth for Ultimate) unless you change your pack or cancel before the end of the offer period.

Rich Dumb people keep it on life support. FTFY.

    • For the noobs and less tech savvy out and about how do you suggest we watch Foxtel channels without a subscription?

  • +12

Paying money to watch adverts and fund Murdoch’s empire of bullcrap?

    • +6

It is unAustralian to support Murdock

      • -2

Exactly, we got rid of him fair and square.

    • +1

Repetitive adverts about what else is on Foxtel does my head in. I'd say close to 50% of the adverts.

  • +12

I'm not sure what I just read

    • Rough, but we got there lmao.

TLDR is $49 for 12 months afterwards (normal value) is $104

      • +5

        (normal value) is $104

        value ??????

        • Or amount? Value is still the cost price of ultimate without this deal…

    • +3

It could be the worst written advertisement I've seen. I bought three

  • -1

    Sorry the "bargain" here is?…

    • -2

      I think it's a troll post ?

      • Bad sign when jv accuses you of teolling.
        Lol

    • +5

ultimate subscription is $49 a month not $104
Go box is $29 was $100

      What am I missing here

      • +1

Pretty sure it’s a joke on Foxtel never being a bargain because of how expensive/ad ridden it is. It’s a good deal if it includes sports, as well as movies and on demand shit. Ignore ‘em.

        • +1

You’re right other than the part that it’s a joke.

        • Full package usually includes sports,.. well everything wouldn't it?

  • +2

    from Koogan

    Whoo ?

    • +2

Lay off, jv, it's clearly a typo, they must have meant Coogan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Coogan

Crazy promotion for an actor to be selling streaming boxes though.

      • Lay off, jv, it's clearly a typo,

I doubt it, they typed it that way twice

    • +3

      Sorry whoo's trolling?

    • Steve Coogan?

      Edit: got beaten to it.

I edited my comment like 4 or 5 times before it got replied to and I couldn't anymore, I couldn't quite figure out how to link like that, so I think you're the real winner here. We both went to the same dumb place, but I did it dumber.

        • +2

We’re replying to a comment about Foxtel after 10 pm on a Sunday when we should be enjoying the last of our weekend. I’d like to think we’re both losers here. Something poetic about that.

          • +1

@kiriakoz: Bruv, I had a work conference on Saturday, on Sunday we went to this chilli festival thing in the sun for a good few hours, once the kiddo's down, cracking open the laptop and having a good lay down is about the most enjoyable thing I could imagine.

        • That'll teach you to be sober on a Sunday night.

  • It's Android TV OS with Play store not cheapie Android box

It's Foxtel. It is undoubtedly a cheap Android box. In fact, specs mention BT 4.1 and 2GB RAM. If that isn't a cheap Android box I don't know what is.

    • I mean it's a licensed Android TV Box not a hacked version + the DVB tuner for $29

    • +1

I got a couple from the free deal a while back, used them for like 5/10 minutes then threw it to the side. Poor thing couldn't handle playing GTA to save it's life, and sure, you could say it wasn't made for that, but I could say it's an 11 year old port of a 21 year old game (that ran fine on my (profanity) iPod touch) so it's not exactly stress testing.

Wouldn't expect much more than Netflix and the tele to work well either tbh. For free I don't mind. For 29, look, the DVB tuner is undeniably sweet, but for 29 if you weren't watching TV yeah you could find a better deal for sure.

      • My free Foxtel box made for a decent Kodi box. Oh the irony.

        • Is Murdoch stuff on Kodi? Got 2 or 3 of those boxes free also 😏 might as well put some use with them👍

        • What do you use Kodi for mostly? Everything I have seen you still need a legitimate login for that service.

          • +1

@sprucemoose92: Everything you have seen is wrong. Kodi is nothing more than a media player. You throw files at it and it plays them.

            • +1

@Tacooo: Fair enough, guess I'll stick to Plex. It's just everyone acts like Kodi is a must-have app yet I have seen nothing beneficial.

              • @sprucemoose92: They USED to share a bit of the same code base - Plex initially forked from the XBMC 12 Frodo codebase (which later was renamed to Kodi). Bit of useless trivia there.

              • +1

@sprucemoose92: Kodi is plex on steroids. I don't use it anymore, but for example back in the day you could use your AFL live pass to stream games using a plugin. It's infinitely customisable.
If you're just streaming local content plex is the go though

  • Is Foxtel Go the same as Foxtel Now as in the same resolution etc?

Something tells me that Go is made for mobile devices and would jab e a crappy resolution..

  • Could I turn this into an easy to use DVR for ota tv?
My partner really wants to record and pause ota tv and every option I have tried seems to have failed her usability and user interface needs

    • Just save up and buy a PVR or a FetchTV box. These Foxtel Go boxes are not designed for recording. The built in tunrer works but not great as there is no way to hide the Foxtel channels. In turn, the free to air is scattered around the long list. It might prove handy as a spare STB if ever the need arises as it does have the tuner built in. I got it for free but would not buy one ever for $29 just to watch tv.

  • 12 month contract or just a deal for 12 months?

    Thanks

  • The Foxtel Now Boxes are quite frustrating to use. They were giving them away for free a little while ago so not quite "remarkable value" for $29.00.
Powering it up, you need a Foxtel account to get it running.
The OS is clunky, with so much lag to load up all the foxtel stuff, and it trips over itself to "enforce" rules such as no kodi and so on.
Just changing channels is a frustrating wait - I found the Live TV channels app (and using tvIRL with iptv streams if you dont have an antenna) works much more smoothly, particularly if you dont want to use the Foxtel Now streams.
There are workarounds to get Kayo on there by sideloading, but Foxtel do not want you to be doing that. Removing/disabling the foxtel "security" stuff via adb may help you to install a better launcher, but updates may fiddle with this in the future.

The one I got overheated and would reboot itself. I tried the warranty claim, but I think being free Foxtel just ignored the request from their webpage (However I do not know if they treat paying customers the same - I received no email or any response), but just a heads up you may get no support if the box goes wrong.

I took my one apart to apply proper thermal grease on the heatsinks to see if it would improve (it did but still reboots but less frequently), I noticed 2 internal boards which look like a PCIe - I am guessing one of them is the DVB tuner card.

On the plus side, if you are used to the "Foxtel Experience", and you have an account with many active channels, using the Foxtel Now box will be a unified familiar experience, with the channels (FTA and Foxtel) all together under the Live TV tab to show what is on presently up/down to select, or switch to On Demand tab for categorised Foxtel shows.

TL;DR - If you basically just want a Foxtel/FTA experience and you pay for Foxtel Now it may suit you.
For me, the Foxtel Now Box was only just worth the effort when they were free. It would be great to just run a generic Android TV OS if that was somehow possible.
The box has a removable PCIe tuner card.

    • for free the FNB isn't bad (I have one) you can side load everything including kodi and remove the foxtel crap making it just a slimmed down android tv box, yes it crashes sometimes but for free it's ok

    • +1

One of mine overheats too: reminds me I need to do that. Sideload Wonderbox because you won’t be able to install Kodi, it’s the same thing. There’s modified launchers you can install, pm me and I’ll send you the link

    • Care to share any tips on side loading Kayo on to the FNB? Thanks.

  • +4

So it’s 2022 and (profanity)-tel still doesn’t have HDR and only has two channels for 4K?

  • OP u sure ur nvidia aint letting u log in as its updated to android 11? https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndroidTV/comments/s2vgmv/fox…

  • +2

I not sure of all the Foxtel hate when you can get AFL / sports on HD and Ultra with the basic package for $29 per month negotiated .
Yeap that value and no where else you can get it .
    Monopoly :)

    • +2

They've also discounted the Sports Plus bundle, which is the basic package, sports and the drama addon for $29 per month. IMO that's the only real deal here, it's a pretty good price if you're into sports. All the "ultimate" bundle adds is movies, kids and docos. Not worth another $20 a month.

    • +1

Agreed, much better value than Kayo IMO and better quality

    • Just called, unfortunately they would not let me match, unbelievable, just said fine, il wait til you guys get more desperate hehe..

  • Iv'e missed the History channel bad since I kicked Foxtel to the curb years ago

And weirdly, the only way to get the History channel is with the ‘Ultimate’ plan. You can’t get it with any cheaper plans. Same is true even if you are on cable using an IQ box.

    • +1

If you really want History, just get Binge. It has about 20 live Foxtel channels (including History), but they don't provide any guide data — likely to deter you from watching..

  • That is a pretty great deal ! Thanks OP

    • +5

Thx FlyingMonkey, I was wondering why I bothered spending the time to add this deal for the community

      • +1

It is a great deal indeed. This community has turned into OzTightarse (no disrespect to the OG TA). Having a 50% off 12 months on foxtel is on any day a bargain considering the deal out of context.

If you posted a code for Netflix for 50% off 12 months you’d be showered in upvotes. Just a shame.

  • -5

Can't believe this has 15 upvotes. Foxtel does not belong on OzBargain IMO. There's no value at ANY tier. Initial comments 100% correct.

    • -1

Loving the negs - not sure how my comment is any different to the initial comments saying how crap Foxtel and Murdoch are way up above - basically same thing but hey I'll take em.

  • Is there anyway to see what channels are included in the ultimate bundle? Is it Essentials + sport + movies?

  • -1

This is a cheap price to help fund Murdock and bring down the free world. Long live King Murdick.

  • The Foxtel cancellation process is a nightmare. If you're planning cancel at 12-mths, then recommend recording "I don't care. I want to cancel. Can we just do that please?" in 110 languages. This will save you the grief of talking to a person whose sole function is to keep you from leaving. I'm still traumatised.

    • +1

Foxtel Go is online cancellation, you don't need to argue with a call centre for Go.

      • This is Foxtel NOW

  • +1

"Can't use a box you have used before on the same Foxtel account (oh Foxtel) so I started looking around for alternative's."

Works fine on the Foxtel Box. Up to my 4th free 10 day trial now.
Maybe they only want you to use the Foxtel Now Box?

edit: If anyone from Foxtel is reading this I meant that I am the fourth person from a different household to use the 10 day trial on this device. Scout's honour.

  • How do I get this offer?

Going to Update Package and choosing Get It All adds all packages for $104 when I checkout.

Edit: found more details on the Ultimate pricing: New and reactivating customers only.

    Great, more right-wing-white-supremacy propaganda media.

Yea I would not take it if it was for free.

    • +1

What a load of trash you just wrote!
There’s plenty of us who won’t take the ABC and it’s free.
The only Royal Commission should be into how a taxpayer funded organisation can be so biased towards the left side of politics.

  • Didn't the get rid of binge on their own box?

  • Is it worth getting the box? Currently I am playing it from my phone to my apple tv. I wish they just had an app on apple tv. I don't want to have to buy another thing just to watch it on. Also, my partner had used a free trial on her phone before, so she can't sign in on this newly purchased account (I think because of the 10 day trial). Any way around this?

    • Hi @PropertyPig

I have the boxes coming today. if interested I can report on how good they work as a TV box once setup

On the 10 day trial problem, I called Foxtel they told me to uninstall / reinstall :-) and then raised a ticket, I'm still waiting, not expecting them to solve the problem before the 10 day trial is up though

      • I ended up talking to someone on the chat and they did it in about 5 mins. She can use my account now!

    • It has digital tuner built in so a plus for that. Navigating the channels is a pain as not all FTA channels are grouped together so one has to scroll by Foxtel channels to get to some. The remote does not have num pad so one can't enter 02 for ABC etc. Does the job just fine though as a free digital tuner if nothing else on hand and TV guide is decent enough.

  • Thanks, just finishing a previous 3 month deal and the family is begging to keep Foxtel. People here get a bit irrational about Foxtel (and HN) but it’s hard to beat the variety and range of content. Not worth $100 but $50 makes it more worthwhile.

T&C of deal says returning customers are fine. So don’t know why it would block previous accounts.

I suspect you updated your shield tv to android 11.. which breaks several apps including Foxtel. There’s no timeframe on Foxtel updating the app for Android11 so expect a 6-12 month wait. You can rollback the shield , but it’s fiddly with a chance of bricking and you’ll need a pc.

    • Never bothered fixing the shield. the go box is really good.

fast, full access to play store, installed Plex, Netflix, curisoity all the fta apps. Tuner gets nice clear pictures

As above the only real down side is no channel numbers (but this is a limitation of google tv (my shield is the same)

A lot of negativity above but based on my usage it is unrelated to the fox go box itself.

  • Would anyone who's on the fence about this deal be interested in sharing the $49 package?

  • Just signed up, tried login in on Android TV and get an error! Apparently the app doesn't work on Android 11 TVs… Back to the drawing board.

  • Does Foxtel Sports have more sports than Kayo? E.g. I watch a fair amount of MLB and Kayo barely gets 4games a week.

  • Merged from Foxtel Now Ultimate Bundle - $49/Month for 1-Year for New & Returning Customers ($104/Month after, No Lock-in)

I signed up for the 10 day trial and enjoyed it, so I gave Netflix, Binge, and Stan the flick and signed up to this deal. It seems expensive but it offers a lot. No box needed, stream everything. No lock in, cancel anytime. Register up to 5 devices. Offer ends midnight. 1

77 live channels of everything including movies, sports, drama, comedy, kids, docos, news, and entertainment.
Over 50 live sports and over 1000 movies
    Register up to 5 devices

    • New customers can start Ultimate with a 10-day free trial
    • New and reactivating customers only. Offer ends 2 May 2022

    1. Only available for new and reactivating Foxtel Now customers (not available to Telstra carrier billed customers). Not available in conjunction with any other offer. New customers start with a 10-day trial. Movies Plus, Sports Plus, Sports + Movies offers extended until 5 July 2022. Ultimate bundle offer ends 2 May 2022. Foxtel Now standard monthly pricing applies at the end of the 12 month offer period (currently: $55/mth for Movies Plus; $64/mth for Sports Plus; $84/mth for Sports + Movies; $104/mth for Ultimate) unless you change your pack or cancel before the end of the offer period. Any additional packs added during the offer period will be added at the standard price. You will not be able to change between bundles/offers during the offer period. If you remove a pack during the offer period your offer will be cancelled and you will pay the standard price for the packs you remain subscribed to.

    • +30

I reckon that even for $4.90/month I wouldn’t sign a 12 month contract Foxtel the bloated pile of ads.

      • It's not a contract, cancel anytime

        • +22

Why give a single cent to murdoch who uses that money to compromise your standard of living.

          • -3

@shroomish: I'm sure he employs people who have families and loved ones to feed. The "I'd never give money to Murdoch" mantra is a little tedious at this stage

            • @[Deactivated]: "Mantra"'s not tedious while it is still relevant and accurate. "But they are job creators" mantra is little more tedious at this stage I would of imagined.

              • -7

@CookedChook: Hitler created LOTS of jobs… that doesn’t justify anything

                • @[Deactivated]: Yes, I agree, obviously….

                • @[Deactivated]: I doubt many Ozbargainers would be acquainted with Germany's economic rise before WW2. And when you see Hitler it's obviously going to give rise to very negative sentiments. But your argument is very valid. It was because of his economic success that laid the platform for his atrocities.

        • +9

Right or wrong there is going to be a lot of hate for their platform.

In saying that $49 a month is still outrageous for the product they're pushing.
