You seem to be pulling trigger on doorbellsquite often

    • +7

Pull a trigger? Dont you push a button? 😂

    • Haha….. Just thought of replacing it again….

      • But your name suggests otherwise. :P

    • his doorbells have been stolen too many times. Time for him to buy a classic doorbell that really "pullling trigger"

  • +1

Damn, that’s a BIG increase in price compared to the previous single camera doorbell that was previously on special for under $250

    • For the package with Homebase 2? Or just the addon (without). Never seen it that low.

Also note this has 2 cameras, it's a fairly big upgrade.

      • I bought the single camera with Homebase 2 for $250 in September. Dual camera is nice but probably not worth an extra $150.

Does this have the issue of the reset?

    • +1

Also wondering this. I’ve been waiting for them to fix this massive flaw before getting into their ecosystem.

      • +2

        What flaw is that

        • +1

Just read any of the many Eufy camera threads.

        • +2

Camera can be reset by bad man

        • +6

I’ve just learnt about it here.

The TL;DR is if a thief takes your camera and holds the sync button for 10 seconds, the camera will disconnect from your account and remove access to all of your recording for the camera stored on your Homebase storage device.

Eufy was alerted to the issue and advised that they needed two months to fix it. Two months went but and they said they needed another three. That time too had passed and Eufy now seem to be saying that it is a feature, and they will not fix it.

This is the cherry on the cake of my doorbell disappointment.

Eufy also had a privacy breach last year where other people were accidentally given access your cameras and recordings. I first found out through Reddit, later Eufy’s response was to tweet about it rather than email customers advising how to fix the issue. The issue occurred because even though Eufy say that your recordings are encrypted, they hold the keys to decrypt it, and if they accidentally (or intentionally) give them to someone else, all your data is exposed.

After the breach I tried to block my camera from being accessed from the internet, but even though the camera and recordings are stored locally, I could no longer access either one as the only method was through their app, which required internet access to authenticate.

Eufy also promised IFTTT and HomeKit Secure Video and HomeKit support for their doorbells but never delivered and eventually abandoned.

As a Eufy doorbell owner, these all add up to a fundamental issue with their products, security and customer service and for that reason I’m giving this a neg vote to let others know to be cautious with their purchase.

          • @Hargain Bunter: At the end of the day, it is a Chinese company and hence subject to the coercion of the CCCP. Not exactly a good foundation for a security system.

          • @Hargain Bunter: Thanks for your feedback. However, I don't know if there are any other alternatives that beat out Eufy? Atm, it seems like Eufy is the popular choice and reigns over all other security cameras.

    • Yep

When is the door lock and camera gonna be available here. Seems like a good 2 in 1 solution.

    • It's on kickstarter now

      • +4

why tf do a huge brand like Eufy need a kickstarter at all?

        • Burns me up when they do this.

        • So they can burn the money if they fail or just don't feel like delivering anymore.

      • +1

I'd not rely on that estimate. The Eufy delivery box was due a few months after the end of the Kickstarter. It took ~2 years to arrive and I'm still waiting on the other rewards.

        • Agreed with not rely on estimated time. Not with Eufy but the 4k dual channel dash cam from 70mai, and that made me sort of decided not to back any projects until I see real products on the market.

          • @davidl820: Yeah I'm not doing kickstarter anymore (other than the Vivi La Dirt League one just recently - special case) I got burned on a telescope for $600+ which the progress updates just stopped a year ago and we get no response from them or kickstarter.

        • That classic Kickstarter vibe.

      • Surely the battery only lasts a week right?

  • +2

That looks to be normal price tho

  • Dual cameras, one for monitoring people and one for monitoring parcels people playing with their packages

    There, I fixed it.

  • Use with 5% off gift cards on Reward Gateway, if you have access.

I have 5 of their cameras and the (single camera) doorbell. The cameras are great. Work perfectly. The doorbell goes offline ALL THE TIME. Its a known issue and drives me crazy. I want to read reviews of this to see if it has the same issue.

    • +1

I have the wireless (addon) doorbell and it has never gone offline for me, not once.

      Is it your wifi?

Do you have a link to the known issue you mentioned? I'd like to know in case I get it.

    • used to have this forementioned problem, had to move my router closer to door to remedy, still on and off every 3weeks or so. All of a sudden, it has been good for the past few months so maybe a firmware update fixed it somehow?

      • Hmm. I’ll check for a firmware update. Not done that in last few months.

  • I’m waiting for a HomeKit version. Some Eufy stuff works with HomeKit and I don’t know why it’s only some.

    • The older stuff worked with homekit; it seems some of the newer stuff doesn't. Not sure if this is a shift away from it, or whether they are just waiting for the Thread networking stuff to released (and possibly simplify their dev costs).

  • +1

Been waiting for this but I'm sick of my Homebase need resetting after power outage. If I'm not home it's impossible to do.

    • Maybe use a UPS?

  • From the comments, it looks like you can't rely on this (whole) Eufy system if you're going away for holidays.

    What are your recommendations?

    Ring, Arlo, Simplisafe?

    • +1

I had arlo previously and it was great. Then everything went behind a paywall. Eufy costs me zero in subscriptions. Arlo was going to be expensive. I like the home security add ons with eufy. I like getting notified if my front or rear doors are opened (for example)

I think with all of these there’s benefits and drawbacks.

    • +1

I’ve had zero problems monitoring my home with my Eufy setup when away on holidays (or while at work). Integrates well with my SmartThings setup. Arlo has ongoing subscription fees I was not willing to pay and picture quality on Ring is pretty poor.

  • Not able to pick up….no stock in any JB hifi store…near me…tried three nearest stores…

  • I can't see the benefit of paying extra for the dual camera. I have the single camera 2k doorbell and the camera is such a wide view if anyone did take a parcel you would have conclusive evidence of them walking away with it. The only time you may not if a small package and put it in their pocket while bending down.
