  • How's Jaws of the Lion? How many sessions and how many hours did it take to the half of it? I haven't unwrapped mine yet.

Speaking of, JotL is currently $55 on Amazon. RRP: $89.00.

Two players only so far, we were about 2hr per scenario since we both new to this type of game. Got to down to about 1.5 now. We've done 2 side quests as well. Not sure total time.

We both enjoy it, I'm probanly going to change class soon since I find I'm frustrated a lot with positioning red guard. My mate loves demo.

Worth the effort to learn it. And get the app, we syatyed using it after 5th scenario and it helped a ton and cleaned up the box.

      • Which app are you referring to?

Gloomhaven helper to keep track of damage, status, enemies modifier and number of rounds. (includes JoTL too)

My group is generally tactile oriented, but this app is so helpful especially in a group of 4. Less asking how much health everyone/enemies have as app clearly shows it and more conversation towards strategy and planning.

Gloomhaven scenario viewer if you would like to set up without accidentally spoiling for yourselves what's in the next room or rewards.

@azngamer: That's the one. The only thing it don't like it it doesn't deal with conditions well. Also I read that they won't be updating it for frost haven?

There's also a narration app called forteller but we didn't buy it. Looking back I'd would, it's nice to listen to the story rather than read it.

    • I've heard its around 60 hours to clock everything in JotL

    Can't wait for frosthaven!

  • I recommend an insert if you buy this. Unless you have a table you can leave it out on. If you have to tear it down and get it back out an insert helps immensely IMO.

    • Can you recommend a specific insert?

  • Wish I still had times for masterpieces such as this

  • I have been playing the digital game heaps, probably skip this but Frosthaven will be a must.

  • Completed jaws of the lion and 1/4 way through gloomhaven. Great price for this fantastic game ranked #1 on BGG

  • I did the same thing after getting through a chunk of JOTL, but I think Big Box Gloomhaven has a few issues not present in JOTL. Firstly, organisation is a huge time sink, you'll want an insert and likely a folder or storage system for the map tiles as well - I like the book system in JOTL much more than map tiles (sacrilege I know, to Dungeon Crawl fans).

Secondly, JOTL has somewhat more scenario variety than Gloomhaven proper (although Gloomhaven beats it hands down in terms of scenario numbers) and Frosthaven will push that even further - at this point unless you'll chew through the scenarios and don't mine repetitious 'kill all the enemies' goals, I'd wait for Frosthaven over buying Gloomhaven.

Creator mentioned he would probably do a map book for frosthaven as a kickstarter.

Highly recommend using the Gloomhaven Helper App for anyone getting into this. Frees up some of the table and less fiddly bits you need to worry about.
