Torch for Security Use Compact w/ Wide Beam

Hey guys, I'm looking for a compact torch that can have a slightly wider beam than a phone light but possibly could buy in store. I wouldn't be using too often, maybe weekly as I sometimes get night shifts at the zoo which is totally dark and creepy at night lol any suggestions for in store purchase?
Also what do you think of Lenser p7, I seen it on Kogan for $60 currently but not sure if I should spend that for a weekly use torch.

  • Have a look on eBay, they have some good no name LED Electronic torches that are reasonably priced.

  • I use this on my pre-dawn walks -

It has a nice wide beam, but only illuminates about 4 to 5 meters in front. Battery life seems to be really good as well, I haven't noticed any fading after 5 weeks, but I only have it on where there is no street lighting.

    • Just noticed that you are looking at a Lenser P7, which is in a whole different category to the Torch I suggested, the Energizer Torch is a button battery job only suitable for 4 or 5 meters light in front.

  • Lumintop FW3A if you want something compact - $68.99 on amazon at the moment https://www.amazon.com.au/Led-High-Lumens-Flashlight-torch/d…
Olight Seeker 2 if you want something easy to grab and go - $159.95 on ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164177452043

If you're going to pay RRP you may as well order from the official store as they always have some freebie offer going on. Usually a keychain i3e or something.

$60 for a P7 is very cheap isn't it? IIRC normal price on these is $120+. I'd be wary from buying from a known questionable retailer like Kogan at such a discount. Might be refurbished or fake etc. Not a particular bright torch these days either but if it fits the budget…

      • $70 is pretty much the real street price for the P7 (and its overpriced at that!), in all honesty i'd have a serious look at the FW3A as its in a completely different league in terms of size and power for the money - its literally an everyday carry kind of size (smaller than the P7) with a hugely better runtime at the same light at the P7 and massively more powerful when you want it. You will need a 18650 battery charger to suit the cell for the FW3A but its so much cheaper and more reliable than NIMH or alkaline batteries.
The P7 and most of the lenser range is kind of trading on the old rep of LED Lenser, there are far better torches for the money out there.

That ebay link is from the offical olight store I thought? Mainly because they are awesome to deal with for any issues.

        • I've never seen them that cheap but I've also never looked, personally think LEDlenser is a bit over rated so agree there.

Didn't look at the ebay link so didn't realise but you don't get whatever freebie they're currently offering unless you buy from their site. I do notice now that you can use PMAR15 code on ebay and get it for $135.96 so ~$24 saving which is likely on par or slightly better than the freebie. The common i3e that's offered is $18 IIRC but it's also usually a limited run colour or some such if you care.

  • +1

The Cash Converters near me seems to get a large amount of semi decent torches come through. I picked up a Lenser a few years ago for about $20. It might be worth a look.

  • Which zoo? And dumb question but are the nocturnal animals locked up at night? If not, would a bright torch disturb them? Would something with a red light be better?
